Chapter 724 Trial by Combat
"I know you like me, McKenna, but please understand, I only do like you as a sister,’
Derrick repeated as if he was the one being wronged.
Now that she had seen how big an asshole Derrick was, any lingering feelings she had for
him had dissipated entirely. "Just you fucking wait, you dick!"
She’d make sure Derrick would pay for treating her like a lovesick idiot!
As she stormed away, Derrick couldn’t help but worry about his job stability. McKenna’s
father was his superior, after all, so he would be in deep shit if they really planned to
punish him. But still, the man was known to keep personal and professional matters apart,
so Derrick might not suffer too much at his hands. Plus, it's not like he reached beyond

Derrick relaxed upon reassuring himself. Now he should focus on how to score with Jenny.
He gave his friends in Parrington a call to update himself on Jenny's life there. Because of
this call, he came to hear Jenny's true identity as the daughter of the Walter family. A
family that was one of the Ten Elites of Bardoff City.
Though Derrick had never gotten so much as a glimpse of the Ten Elites, he had still heard
of them.
It suddenly felt surreal how close he was to one of the Elites. His worries for life after
marriage with Jenny swiftly dissipated as well. Not only would he gain a reputation after
marrying her, but he'd also no longer have to worry about not living well.
Derrick snickered at the thought, as if he had actually married Jenny.
Jenny, meanwhile, had long forgotten about him. To her, any more time spent dealing with
that man was time wasted.
"A letter for you, miss." The butler handed her an envelope.
"Letter? Who still writes letters these days," she thought.
Jenny curiously opened the letter to read its contents, then nearly went into a laughing fit.
Just then, Graham came to peer at the letter from beside her. His face immediately turned
ugly.
"I forbid you from going to this nonsense!" he cried, then snatched the paper from Jenny's
grasp. "We’re living in modern times, for God's sake. What is this 'trial by combat'
nonsense? What if you get hurt?”
Jenny shrugged. She never in her life expected someone to issue such a challenge to her

worry, Dad. This is just something that happens sometimes."
Of course, one could choose to not accept the challenge, though this meant an automatic
defeat hence why most people choose to accept it. Including Jenny, who thought it would
be embarrassing for her and her master if she refused this challenge.
Graham grumbled, "I should never have hired that man to teach you if I'd known this
would happen."
"Dad, that was one of the best decisions you made for me. You have no idea how many
people have tried to mess with me over the years." Not just mess with, but they even tried
to kill her. Jenny was just really grateful she didn't quit when she was younger. What
doesn't kill you makes you stronger, as they say. Every opponent she ever met only made
her stronger.
That was why she was confident she could win this challenge.
