He looked at her that way. Before leaving for Zloimond, he had told her that he would marry her when he
returned.
However, at that time, there was no such pain in his eyes.
“Isolde, I'll use all my strength to protect you in this life. | won't allow anyone to hurt you, not even a little bit.
And | won't let anyone who has harmed you off.” His fingers brushed against her cheek, still carrying the faint
scent of blood.
His voice was forced through clenched teeth, unwavering and resolute.
After the battle at the Zloimond Armory, no one knew what he had been through or what he had seen. The pain
that almost seeped into his bones tortured him every day, forcing him to live tenaciously and cback to
protect someone,
Isolde was slightly stunned. The Oliver she knew had never shown such intense love or hatred.
He had always been indifferent to everything. Even knowing that his adoptive mother disliked him and that
William hated him, he simply fulfilled his duties without complaint.
The mild-mannered person suddenly delivering such sharp words caught her completely off guard.
She knew that only facing life and death could change a person's nature so completely.
She knew that what he had been through was truly perilous. He had barely escaped with his life.
Slowly, she lifted his sleeve. The iron hand extended all the way to his elbow, with a section of his arm
embedded within a metal casing. There were no visible fastenings. She gave it a slight pull, but it didn’t budge.
“It won't coff. The Grand King Emeritus made this iron hand. When | woke up, it felt as if it had fused with
my flesh. But it moves as naturally as my own hand. It’s truly magical,” Oliver said.
“This isn’t iron, is it?” Isolde touched the metal hand, noticing that its color was off. It was whiter than ordinary
iron.
“It’s not iron, but | don’t know what it is either.” He moved his fingers, and the metal hand worked smoothly.

“Is it black iron? But it doesn’t seem like it,” Isolde mused.
“No, it’s even harder than black iron. | tried slashing it with the Primordial Sword, and it didn’t leave a scratch,”
Oliver said with a smile.
Isolde was stunned. “Stronger than black iron? Then what exactly is it? This is incredible.”
“I really don’t know,” Oliver said with a slight smile. “But don’t worry. As long as I'm alive, that’s all that
matters.”
Isolde gazed at his handsface and gently smoothed his slightly disheveled dark hair. “Yes, coming back alive
is the most important thing.”
His eyes softened as he looked at her. “If you agree, I'll propose to you immediately once we return.”

Isolde’s expression grew serious in an instant. She said solemnly. Tm afraid that won't be possible”

Oliver was momentarily stunned, and the light in his eyes dimmed. “Do you not believe | will treat you well? Or...
is there someone else in your heart?”
Isolde let out a soft sigh, gazing into his suddenly solemn and sorrowful eyes. “While you were away from the
capital, | got married.”
Oliver's eyes tightened, his expression turning to shock. He blurted out, “You really did marry William? No! You
must divorce him, or | will kill him the moment | return to the capital! Even if you refuse to marry me, that man
must not be William Valen, and it must not be anyone from the Valen family!”
Isolde was startled by his words. “Do you really think | married William? Why do you think that? And why can't it
be someone from the Valen family?”
His eyes were filled with pain. “Don’t ask why. Just know that it can’t happen. If you don’t have deep feelings for
him, submit a divorce petition based on your merits when you return. The queen Dowager will grant it.”
Isolde looked at him, a strange feeling creeping into her heart. It was almost as if he knew something about her
past-things he shouldn’t have known. But that was impossible. He had been gone long before she ever married
William. There was no way he could have known the misery she endured after that.
She almost blurted out the question but held back. Such thoughts were far too absurd.
Instead, she simply raised an eyebrow and said with a trace of resentment, “Yes, | married someone from the
Valen family, but not William.”
Oliver slowly furrowed his brows, then widened his eyes in shock. “You... you married my father?”
Isolde had thought that saying this would make him understand immediately.
The Valen family only had two sons. It was either William or him.
But he jumped to thinking it was the Marquis of Eldermere himself.
Isolde almost coughed up blood in frustration.
She couldn't really blOliver. After all, he would not possibly guess that she had been in a spirit marriage with
him.
If it wasn’t William, then the only one left was his father.
Even though he himself found the thought absurd, he could only think that way.
“You idiot! It was you! After you left the capital and news of your death cback, | held a spirit marriage for
us!” Isolde practically shouted.
Even without much thought, it was obvious that she couldn't have married his father.
“A... spirit marriage?” Oliver widened his eyes. But then, the light in his eyes quickly returned and sparkled.
“So... you married me?”
“Yes, we got married,” Isolde snapped, exasperated.
Oliver felt his mind explode in a frenzy, but one thought shot out faster than the rest. “No way. There was no
wedding ceremony. A spirit marriage doesn’t count. We need to hold the wedding properly when we

return.”
Isolde smiled warmly. To her, whether they held another wedding or not, she was already his wife
But if the wedding mattered so much to him, then they would do it again.
Besides, she hadn't received nearly enough wedding gifts last tbecause not many people had attended the
spirit marriage ceremony.

Their gazes met, both tinged with a trace of shyness. Yet, the atmosphere was tender and intimate.
A loud, jarring voice shattered the beautiful moment. “Marshall Marshall Are you alright? You're back
It was Hazel, shouting at the top of her lungs.
She, her sister, and Vincenzo had stayed in the disaster-stricken area, as Isolde had intentionally kept them out
of the battle. She had planned for both outcomes-victory or defeat. If she won, everything would be fine. But if
she lost, the three of them had strict orders to return to the capital at once and eliminate Prudence and William
to avenge her.
With that, there were no regrets left in this life.
Oliver and Isolde slowly pulled apart, exchanging slightly helpless glances at Hattie and Hazel. The sisters rushed
forward, their faces bright with joy and excitement as they looked at Oliver, even as they struggled to hold back
their tears.
Their eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It was obvious that they had been worried during these past days.
Oliver smiled warmly at them and said, “I'm back, and I'm fine.”
“That's wonderful! It's enough that you're alive, Marshal!” Hattie said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Vincenzo strode in with a grin and said, “Great Marshal, your accident this tgave quite a scare to many
people.”
Vincenzo was still drenched from head to toe, his hair plastered messily against his forehead. His entire
appearance was disheveled, his clothes covered in mud, his collar folded up, and his pant legs rolled high. He
looked just like a farmer returning from the fields.
On the other hand, Hattie and Hazel looked much more presentable compared to him.
