Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Edward had a cake in one hand and a bag in the other as he walked toward the dining room.
He smiled. “Happy birthday, Tay. A cake and a bottle of champagne. | brought you sfruits and chocolates
from overseas, Grandma Edna, Mrs. Zack.”
My grandmother and aunt exchanged an uneasy glance before the former smiled diplomatically. “Thank you, but
I'm fine. These look like fine gifts for your own grandparents and parents, though.”
| sprang to my feet without any pretensions of politeness. Why are you here? Did anyone invite you? | don’t think
so!”
“It's your birthday, Tay,” he said gently.
“And it has nothing to do with an outsider like you! No one wants you here, so how about you respect that and
leave?” | shot back, ordering Clara to show him out.
Clara couldn't, of course.

Edward knew he was in trouble, so he immediately tried to win my grandmother and aunt's approval. “Please, |
know I've made a mistake. | know | was wrong. | won't do it again! Please, helpconvince her to give me
another chance!”
My grandmother sighed. “I'm too old to get involved in these sorts of things anymore, kid. I'll support whatever
Tay decides.”
“Look, what's done is done. You're not entitled to anyone's grace, Edward.
“Taylor has never wanted anything from you. She just wanted to be with you because you were a good person,
and you were good to her.
“But you've failed on both counts now. How is she supposed to want you back?” my aunt said.
He hung his head. “I know... It's all my fault...”
Enraged, | shoved him out the door. “Go away! Did you hear me? Go away! Your face disgusts me!”
“Taylor, please! | truly am sorry! If you could just forgive me... I'll do anything for you! | promise I'll love you only
you!
and
| wasn’t going to believe a word. In fact, | threw his gifts out the door. “Take your shit with you! They disgust me
too!”
I slammed the door and returned to dinner.
My aunt noticed the look on my face. “Are you alright, sweetie? It's not easy to let go of a six-year-long
relationship, right? Cry if you want to. You'll feel better.”
| chewed my chicken. “Nah. He’s not worth it.”
My grandmother and aunt exchanged worried glances.
“He’s scum. He won't even agree to our divorce. I'm taking him to court,” | said. “The trial starts next month. It's
over between us-and I'm going to make it through, no problem.”
My grandmother was as optimistic as ever. “Okay! I'm always behind you, sweetie.”
I smiled. “Let's start cutting the cake! | love Aunt Sarah’s baking!”

My aunt had bought my grandmother's house a few years ago. It was a modest little place in a rather upscale
neighborhood near my aunt's house.
| had barely stepped out of the gate when | saw a figure materializing from the decorative shrub by the curb. |
was startled.
Then, | saw who it was-Goddamn Edward Kemedy again!
