Chapter 49

How could someone so perfect exist?

Soren was such a gentleman-a truly stand-up guy.

He was supposed to be way too busy for me, and yet he didn’t look down on a girl from a lower social status

inviting him to dinner. He didn’t even reject me.

He agreed with his characteristic courtesy.

Okay, back to reality. Where should we dine?

He was a very important person, and | was sure he had high standards for everything, including food. | doubted

the usual upscale restaurants would be good enough for him.

Luckily, Jeannie’s family operated upscale restaurants, so had help.

Me: [Jeannie, I've invited a super important VIP to dinner to thank him for a big favor. Any recommendations? |

need a place that’s super sophisticated and classy.]

Jean: [?? When?]

Me: [Tomorrow night.]

Jean: [Cto the Oriole. The Pride Room!]

| knew | could rely on her!

The Oriole was the finest, most upscale restaurant her family owned. The Pride Room was reserved exclusively

for VVIPs.

Naturally, it was also incredibly expensive.

But | hardly thought about how much | would have to spend | was just happy that Soren would gracefully allow

| texted his private number with the details: the address and time.

Soren: [Gotcha.]

My mood was exceptionally sunny. It felt as though every negative thing in life had been reduced to nothing. |

even started to hum.

Was | happy because | got my mother’s bracelet back? Or was it because | could dine with Soten tomorrow

night?

My good mood remained undisturbed until the evening, when an intruder broke into my office.

The door suddenly swung open, startling me.

Cherry's apologetic face appeared behind the intruder. “I couldn't stop her from barging in, Tay! I'm sorry!”

Cameron swung her hand through the air. “Why were you trying to stop me, huh? Or is there something fishy

going on here?”

| scowled, irritated. | dismissed Cherry.

Once she closed the door, | snarled, “You'd better think twice about creating a scene at my place, Mrs. Jones.

“You can’t threaten me, Taylor! Don’t think for a second that getting into Soren Kenway’s sight makes you a

queen, you bitch!

“You think you're something special? They've seen prettier girls than you could ever imagine! You're just a toy to

him-nothing to him!”

| was shocked. | didn’t expect her to know about yesterday. On second thought, the entire elite circle in

Metropolis. had found out.

“Eh, even if it’s true, I'm hardly the only one who's a toy in his world. | mean, your precious daughter is basically

Edward's current favorite toy too.

“Don’t tellyou actually believe those two will be together forever, huh?” | retorted, going straight for the

jugular.

“Fuck!” Cameron shrieked.

I had hit a nerve

“You're the most blackhearted bitch I've ever seen! You'd never stop cursing her to die sooner, even though

she’s your own sister!

“If it weren't for you bullying her, she wouldn't have suddenly bled internally and almost died! You fucking

psychopath!” she cursed.

What? She was the one throwing a fit at Edward yesterday! What did that have to do with me?

But more importantly, Cameron said her daughter “almost died.”

Oh, she was still alive? Damn, that girl had tenacity.

“Me, bullying her? I just love the way you fabricate bullshit out of thin air, Mrs. Jones.

“I warned her before the auction that she shouldn't have shown up if she was sick enough to need a damn

wheelchair. But no! She insisted on being there just to snatch my bracelet.

“Honestly? She should be grateful she didn’t die after all!” retorted.

The angrier Cameron got, the calmer and happier | became. She had nothing more to say!

Then she scanned the room, grabbed a folder from my desk, and smacked it against my head.

| barely pulled away in time. Still, the edge grazed my face, and | felt a stinging pain spread across my skin.
