“You're the one who forced my hand!” Edward roared.
My heart grew cold, and | let out a mocking laugh. “Even now, you still don’t have the guts to admit you're

on me.”
Before he could say anything more, | said, “I'm happy to play along until the very end. After all, | get to wate

Imay have seemed calm as | continued driving, but suddenly my eyes welled with tears.
“Why the heck are you crying, Taylor?! That bastard doesn’t deserve your tears!” | scolded myself and wiped my
tears away, taking a few deep breaths to calm down.
Actually, now that | thought about it, | should thank Edward for how cruelly he treated me. Because of him, | was
able to becthe ruthless person | was now.
If he had kept up his fake persona from the past-crying, begging, apologizing, getting down on his knees asking
for my forgiveness-I never would have been able to cut him off for good.
That would've been so much harder onin the long run.
But now, | could enjoy my “revenge” and see who would cout on top in the end.
Soren called again just as | was about to reach home.
“Are you halready?” he asked.
“Almost. Have you arrived?“!
“Yeap, I'm downstairs,” he replied.
“Okay, I'll be right there.”
| drove into my neighborhood and spotted Soren standing by the road near the staircase.
He wore a medium-length jacket that accentuated his tall, commanding figure. Even in the dark, | could see just
how handshe was.
Seeing him made my heart feel at peace.
| got out of the car, and he walked towardas | made my way to him.
“Are you alright?” Soren asked, his voice filled with concem as he checkedfor injuries.
| gave a faint smile. “I'm fine. | was the one who made the police report to arrest someone, not the other way

He smiled back. “Looks like you really are alright If you're cracking jokes.”
“I'am...” | nodded, then looked at him. “Would you like to lead upstairs?”
Soren raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Is that alright with you?”

“Why wouldn't it be? It’s freezing out here. We'd look like idiots standing here talking,” | remarked.
Soren laughed. “I thought you were trying to close the distance between us.”
| understood what he meant but shrugged as though I'd just been freed from my shackles.
“I actually don’t care whether I'm divorced or not-It doesn’t change the outcome. I'm just not sure if you'd mind
that my marital status is complicated, Mr. Kenway.”
Soren smiled even wider and raised his hand to guidetoward the staircase, acting as though he were the
host instead of me.
“Since when have | ever shown that | mind?” he asked. “You're the one who's always trying to keep this a secret,
afraid someone might notice us.”
“1 did that for your own good,” | protested.
“And | understand that.”
When we entered my house, | led him to the living room and apologized, “Sorry about the mess. I've been really
busy lately.”
Soren glanced around and nodded. “It’s a little messy, but it’s still better than living in a pigsty.”
