Chapter 127

My grandmother sounded so worried that it stunned me. “What? I'm fine though!”

“Well, that Cameron broad used Harry's number to shout atabout being terrible at parenting! Said my

daughter and granddaughter were both taught to be the b-word, then claimed you caused a ruckus at

Maddison’s funeral then she cursed all of us!”

| frowned. “Ignore her, Grandma. She's basically a rabid dog at this point. There's no point in talking sense to

her.”

“I ain't ignoring that broad any longer! | shouted right back at her! | had so many things | wanted to say to her

face, so bless her heart for givingthe chance to give her plece of my mind!”

That was a relief. “That's good to hear, Granny! Atta girl! it you need to remember to take care of your health,

alright?”

“Don’t worry, sweetie. I'm doing perky.” Then, more worriedly, she added, “What on God's Earth is going on

between you and that Kennedy boy? | heard he somehow asked for your hand in marriage at the funeral!”

“He did. But it’s pointless. Our divorce case is happening in a few days.”

“Alright, dear. | believe in you.”

Jean's call was coming through, so | had to wrap up. “I've got a call incoming, Granny, so I'll say bye for now,

okay? Don’t worry about me-no one can lay a finger on your granddaughter.”

| answered Jean’s call and was immediately hit with a barrage of questions.

“What the hell, man? That dick proposed to you again?! And he even tried to act like stragic old-school

melo male lead or something?!”

| sighed. “How did you hear about this so soon? | just left the funeral parlor. I'm not even hyet!”

“Videos are spreading like wildfire, sis. A funeral turned into a circus! Maddison would love this,” Jean remarked.

“I was sincerely hoping to pay my last respects to the dead, but Cameron's rabies isn’t getting cured anytime

soon.

“And Edward, too-he’s completely lost his sense of shnow. Who the hell repents and then proposes-in the

sbreath-at a funeral?!” | complained.

Jean snickered. “Someone who's really regretting all of his shitty life choices.”

“I missed the part where that’s my problem,” | said placidly.

“Hey, you gotta be careful, though. That bitch Cameron holds a massive grudge and has no regard for ethics.

“She’s been a bitch to you forever, and now with Maddie dead while your life seems to be on an upward

trajectory, | have a bad feeling she’s only going to get worse.

“You have to stay as far away from them as you can, Tay. They might start pulling struly heinous shit next,”

Jean warned.

“I know. Thanks for the reminder.”

| had thought about this too. All the humiliation Cameron suffered at the funeral, combined with the pain of

losing her daughter, could very well push her even further ever the edge.

was mentally prepared for incoming storms, but I hadn't expected one to hit so soon.

Chapter 127

It was Monday noon.

After our company meeting, just as | was about to relax in my office chair, Cherry suddenly hurried in.

“Tay, we've got company... from the IRS,” she stated.

I was shocked. “The IRS?!”

Before | could even process it, three men in suits stepped in

“Good morning, Miss Taylor Jones.”

“Good morning?”

The leader showedhis badge. “We're from the Internal Revenue Service. You are to assist us in our

investigation into tax evasion charges allegedly conducted by Harbinger Inc. Please, calong.”
