“I don’t care!” Samantha snapped, her voice spiraling into hysteria. “Giveanother poison-something
stronger! You want Sloane dead just as much as | do. We're after the sthing!”
“You're being reckless,” the distorted voice warned, sharp with impatience. “This isn’t the right tto make
another move...”
“No!” Samantha cut in, her tone softening into a sick, desperate plea. “You know how much I've sacrificed for
this revenge. | swear this t| won't fail...”
There was a long silence. Then the electronically distorted voice returned, cold and final. “Three days from now.
Splace. Remember, this is the last time.”
The call ended. Samantha's lips curled into a twisted smile. She walked to the window, staring in the direction of
the hospital, and whispered, “Sloane, this tI'll make you suffer until death feels like mercy.”
Three mornings later, Samantha slipped on a brown wig and thick-rimmed glasses. After carefully disguising
herself, she strode confidently into the Redwood Biotechnology Complex.
When the elevator doors opened, she stepped out with a triumphant smirk tugging at her lips. Her hand
tightened around the strap of her bag, her fingertips trembling faintly with excitement.
She cut across the lobby with quick steps-only to collide with a janitor who turned a corner unexpectedly.
“Ah!” Samantha cried out, staring in horror at the dark coffee stain splattered across her beige skirt suit.
“I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!” The janitor stammered, fumbling for a handkerchief. “The restroom’s just on the
right-1 can help you clean it—"
“Get your filthy hands off me!” Samantha snapped, shooting her a furious glare before storming toward the

Samantha leaned over the sink, scrubbing hard at the stain on her skirt, muttering curses nonstop. The rush of
water filled the room, and she never noticed the stall door ease open behind her.
A woman in a beige trench coat walked out with quiet grace and stepped up to the sink beside her. She set a
sleek black handbag-nearly identical to Samantha’s-on the marble counter.
The overhead lights made the two bags almost impossible to tell apart, their leather glowing with the same
polished sheen.
“That kind of stain is tough to get out,” the woman said kindly. “Here-try this.”
She offered a small bottle of stain remover, casually sliding her own bag a little closer toward Samantha's.
Distracted, Samantha took it without suspicion, murmured thanks, and bent to work on her skirt. In that instant,
the woman's fingers gave a subtle tug-
Clink.
The two bags swapped places with barely a sound.

Samantha left the restroom with her bag, but before she could steady herself, an intern rounded the corner,
struggling with an armful of files.
“Ah!”
They crashed into each other, papers and Samantha's handbag scattering across the floor.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Samantha exploded, her hand already raised to strike.
