Lucas cleared his throat lightly, a touch of helplessness in his tone. “Mr. Calvin, this is Sloane- the one |
mentioned to you. She recently acquired several damaged ancient texts at the auction and was hoping you could
take a look to see if they're salvageable.”
Sloane stepped forward and gave a polite nod. “Mr. Calvin, it’s truly an honor to meet you. I've heard so much
about your work.”
Mr. Calvin smiled as he studied her with amused eyes. “Sweet-talker, aren’t you? But if he brought you here
himself, you must be something special.”
Sloane simply smiled, offering no retort. Instead, she held out the box in her hands. “Mr. Calvin, I'd be very

Mr. Calvin accepted the box and opened it. His brows lifted in surprise. “This... this is a handwritten manuscript
from the medieval era. For it to survive until now-this is a rare treasure.”
He carefully flipped through a few pages. His expression turned serious. “The condition isn’t ideal. Ssections
are badly deteriorated... but restoring them isn’t out of the question.”
Sloane's eyes lit up. “That's wonderful! Mr. Calvin, would it be possible forto observe the restoration
process?”
Mr. Calvin glanced at her, then at Lucas. Suddenly, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “Shi Yue, this girl you
brought is pretty interesting. All right, just this once-I'll let you both
observe.”
Lucas smiled lightly. “We appreciate it, Mr. Calvin.”
As they followed him toward the studio, Sloane added modestly, “I once helped my mentor restore a damaged
version of Van Gogh's Starry Night. | mostly assisted, of course-just basic
tasks.”
“Oh?” Mr. Calvin raised an eyebrow. “Van Gogh's figure paintings are treasures in their own right! His brushwork-
so fluid and vivid-brings life to every line. They're incredibly difficult
to restore.”
He paused in his step and turned to examine her with genuine curiosity. “How damaged was the painting? What
method did you use to restore it?”
Sloane nodded thoughtfully as she recalled. Her voice was calm and structured. “The piece

had dried cracks, heavy discoloration, and areas of paint flaking. We started by gently cleaning the surface with
a fine brush and a custom solution. Then we matched pigments to the original color tones, carefully blending and
layering with brushwork that mirrored the original strokes. We repeatedly adjusted the thickness and texture of
the paint to ensure a seamless blend.”
“My mentor lethandle both the color and content restoration.”
Mr. Calvin's eyes gleamed with admiration. “If you were trusted with color correction and content restoration,
then you've got real skill. That's no small task.”
Sloane gave a humble smile. “I only know the basics. Compared to you, I've still got a long way to go.”
Mr. Calvin chuckled and gave Lucas a hearty pat on the shoulder. “This one’s no ordinary girl. No wonder you
brought her to see me.”
Lucas said nothing, but the hint of pride in his gaze said it all.
The three of them entered Mr. Calvin's workshop. Inside, shelves were lined with restoration tools, ancient
scrolls, and fragments of manuscripts. The air was rich with the scent of ink, old paper, and titself.
At the center table, Mr. Calvin gestured for Sloane and Lucas to take a seat. Then he pulled on a pair of white
gloves and carefully opened one of the medical texts.
