Chapter 119 Cornering Sloane, Again

Chapter 119 Cornering Sloane, Again

Conrad's project had found an investor.

Sloane and Lucas received the news almost at the stime.

“Who is it?” Sloane didn’t seem surprised.

“Houston Corp,” Andrew reported immediately to Lucas.

Lucas didn’t even look up. “Got it,” he said blandly.

Andrew was baffled. The president had clearly been enthusiastic about the project before- then suddenly

withdrew without explanation. Now that the company’s longtrival, Houston Corp, had snapped it up, he was

acting like nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, the Rivers family had heard the news as well. Marshall was grinning from ear to

ear.

Even Helen, who had been in low spirits ever since Boone's breakdown, managed to smile for

once.

Marshall knew Boone's situation was the root of her gloom and gently tried to comfort her. “None of us saw this

coming. We only sent him to the psychiatric hospital to shield him from legal charges... Who could've guessed

he’d actually lose his mind?”

Even as he spoke of his youngest son, pain filled his face.

“But don’t forget, Boone's not your only son,” he reminded her firmly. “You're still the lady of the Rivers family.

We're finally about to turn things around-you need to pull yourself together.”

Helen's expression shifted, struggling between emotions. In the end, she gave a slow nod. “1 understand. Make

sure Boone's taken care of. Keep him comfortable.”

“I will,” Marshall assured her. “He’s my son, too. I've already spoken with the director-we go way back. Don’t

worry.”

Helen's face flickered again but quickly settled into composure. “Good.”

As the Rivers family prepared to celebrate, Samantha smashed the piano in the school’s practice room.

Helen rushed to campus the moment she got the call and picked her up personally.

“Sammy, what on earth is wrong with you?” Helen demanded in the car. “The maestro’s selection is happening

any day now, and you pull this? What are you trying to do?”

Samantha clutched her right wrist, head bowed, silent.

Helen grew more frantic at her daughter's silence. “Say something!”

Samantha bit her lip hard but said nothing.

Helen's patience snapped. “I've let your petty stunts slide when it cto stealing the spotlight from Sloane,

but listen tocarefully: You've already let your father down more than once. If you blow this opportunity with

the maestro, he will not go easy on you.”

At those words, Samantha trembled. She gripped her wrist tighter and whispered, “Mom, | know | messed up. |

won't be reckless again.”

Helen sighed and stroked her daughter's head. “Silly girl, I'm doing all this for your own good.”

Samantha bit her lip so hard it nearly bled. She had already decided-this secret could never cto light.

Everything she had now was because they still thought she was useful. If they ever found out the truth, she'd

lose it all.

Back on campus, Sloane had once again-again-been ambushed by a group of upperclassmen from the computer

science department at the corner of the teaching building.

“Sloane, you have to join our research project!” the lead senior girl pleaded, eyes full of urgency and hope.

Someone quickly handed Sloane a stack of documents. “It’s all here-our project on applying Al image recognition

to medical diagnostics. We've made sprogress, but we're stuck. After seeing your livestream, we were

blown away by your skill. Please-help us.”

They'd hit a wall in their research. After witnessing her sheer brilliance online, they had no choice but to track

her down and try their luck in person.
