Faye had just set her phone down, half-expecting another directive from her boss, when she saw it was a thumbs-up emoji from
Logan. She couldn't help but burst into laughter, picturing Logan fumbling around only to end up sending that emoji. He must be
feeling pretty smug, right?
Dr. Pendleton looked up from his desk at the sound of Faye's laughter, squinting his eyes at her as if he was onto something.
"What's got you all giddy?" Faye felt a bit uneasy under his gaze, sensing that he was about to stir strouble.
"Spill it, Faye. Are you about to tellthere's a new romance brewing?" He hit the nail on the head so precisely that Faye nearly
choked on her water. "What? Who's talking about romance? With whom?"
"Getting defensive, are we?" Dr. Pendleton raised an eyebrow. "| was just probing, and you've pretty much confirmed it without me
having to push."
Faye managed a wry smile. "You almost hadthere. Since when did | start dating and no one informed me?"
"Well, you've been glued to your phone more than ever, and every tyou check it, there's this smile. If that's not love, then what
is?" Dr. Pendleton deduced, based on her recent behavior.

Faye felt a tad guilty; was it that obvious?
However, their conversation was cut short as Dr. Pendleton had to make his rounds. Just when Faye thought she had dodged a
bullet, he turned back with a mischievous look. "Don't think you're off the hook. I'll be back to grill you more!"
Faye, resigned to her fate, grabbed the medical files and started her own rounds. Along the way, she greeted numerous interns
who all acknowledged her warmly.
When she reached the fifth floor, she inevitably ran into Dr. Barbara, who seemed to carry herself with an air of superiority. Faye,
not wanting to engage in any pettiness, swiftly moved into a patient's room to avoid further confrontation.
But Barbara, like a bad penny, followed her everywhere, creating quite a scene in the crowded patient's room.
The patient, an elderly gentleman, seemed puzzled by themotion. It wasn't every day he saw so many doctors fussing over
him, especially when one seemed ready to pick a fight.
Faye, ignoring Barbara's presence, focused on the patient's recovery progress, engaging him in a calm conversation while also
instructing the interns on key points to note.
Barbara, feeling ignored, raised her voice, startling everyone in the room. "Faye, I'm talking to you! Since when did you start taking
over my duties?"
Faye, annoyed and trying to maintain professionalism, responded, "We're in a hospital, Dr. Barbara. Let's not disturb the patients.
Shouldn't you know better?"
The situation escalated until one of the interns confirmed the shift change, leaving Barbara embarrassed and speechless.
In the end, it was the elderly patient who put things into perspective, questioning why Barbara was causing such a scene over
something trivial and suggesting she should be thankful instead.
Faye, keen to avoid further , quickly apologized to the patients and hurried out, only to be stopped by the elderly man's
matchmaking attempt. Her swift exit left the interns amused and more fond of her than ever, admiring her kindness and
professionalism amidst the chaos.
Barbara returned to the department with a grudge, her glare fixed on Faye, who remained the epitof calm amid the storm.

never be weed by any in-laws, too stubborn and always looking for trouble.
Barbara, fuming, marched back to her department, ready to confront Faye, but then the big guns arrived.
The Deputy Director of the hospital made a beeline for her department and immediately sought out Barbara, “Didn't we just revise
the schedule yesterday? Why did you still go and cause a scene in the building? Do you know someone filed aplaint against
you? There are seriously ill patients on the fifth floor, and you still went there; are you trying to get yourself killed?!”
The Deputy Director's tirade in the neurosurgery department caused quite a stir, rapidly bing the talk of the entire hospital.
Barbara had definitely made a nfor herself.
The interns got a real eye-opener; so this was what it looked like when the higher-ups lost their temper.
Barbara, her face alternating between red and pale, angrily met Faye's gaze.
But Faye just looked back with a perfectly normal expression, which Barbara stubbornly interpreted in apletely different way.
In a fit of frustration, Barbara pointed her finger directly at Faye, "It was clearly her trying to provokeon purpose!"
