Chapter 88 Katrina's POV I made my way down the halls, my footsteps echoing as I walked. There wasn't a single soul in sight and I wondered what might have happened to them.

Compared to a couple of weeks ago when the halls would be filled with people keeping an eye on me, this place was deserted.

I was currently on my way to see Silas. One, because I needed to see him and two, because he had ordered for my presence.

I wasn't even sure what I was going to say to Silas, but I knew I needed to talk to him.

As I turned the corner, I spotted Maria leaning against the wall, her eyes landing onimmediately and I paused.

Was she actually waiting forall these while? I couldn't help but wonder. Stimes I wonder if Maria was actually obsessed withand just covering it up.

"Well, well," she said with a sarcastic smile. "Still alive, huh? Shame. I was hoping you'd spare us all the trouble and drop dead by now You see? Totally obsessed. She could have just ignoredand letwalk pass, but she couldn't and had to start up a conversation with me.

rolled my eyes, crossing my arms. "Sorry to disappoint you, Maria, but I'm not going anywhere. Maybe you should focus on your own life instead of obsessing over mine." I fired at her, my lips pulling into a slight smirk. Her smirk faltered for a moment before she straightened. "Bold words for someone who's just a temporary wife. Silas won't keep you forever, you know." "At least I'm married to him. Shouldn't you be ashamed that you're pinning after a married man?" I arched a brow, waiting for her to answer. But it seemed I made her speechless.

"Oh, right, because falling for your kidnapper is totally normal. Should I call it Stockholm syndror just bad taste?" I know, it's a totally messed up situation. Let's not forget that he's my uncle as well.

"Silas would get tired of you and toss you away," she warned, taking a step forward.

"And yet, here I am," I shot back, giving her a pointed look. "If you're so sure about that, why don't you ask him yourself?" Maria glared at me, but I didn't stick around to hear whatever comeback she was planning. I had better things to do than argue with her.

And that was to see my kidnapper Uncle.

I wanted to know the next step I'd be taking.

I made my way to Silas's office and knocked on the door. His deep voice calledin, and I entered, closing the door behindUnable to help myself, I let my eyes wander round his office before they fell on him once more. This was the first tI was walking into his office and I couldn't help but remember what Marcos had told me. Find something to use against Silas.

I was so sure I would be given an opportunity to walk inside here and yet here I was.

1/4 Chapter 88 After a few minutes of standing and neither of us saying anything, I let out a cough to try and get his attention. It felt weird standing in silence while he did whatever it was he was doing. Silas was seated at his desk, looking through spapers. When he looked up at me, his expression was blank as usual.

"What do you want, Katrina?" He asked, a brow coming up. He had reading glasses on and seeing him with it brought a zoo to my stomach.

Silas was fucking attractive, I could never deny that. His hair was tied in a low bun, a few grey strands framing his face. As usual his shirt was half open, his tattoos put on display.

I swallowed hard, stepping closer.

What do I want? I wanted him to fuckhard against his table, using his fingers and tongue to driveto a place of ecstasy.

"Katrina?" Silas called when I remained quiet. "Fuck me," I blurted out. When I realized what I had said, I instantly shook my head.

"No. No, that's not what I meant," I rushed out, trying to save the situation.

His lips pulled into a smirk, but his eyes darkened. "If you wanted it so badly. You could have just asked," Something about the 3 Seness in his tone sent shivers down my spine but I couldn't forget what I had chere for.

"I want to talk about school. I know I'm supposed to start soon, and I- "There's no need for you to continue at the university," Silas interrupted, his tone final. "You'll take online ourses instead. That's safer and easier for everyone." Wait. That wasn't what we agreed on.

My jaw dropped in disbelief. "What? No! I can't just stay here all the time, Silas. I need to go to school. I need-" "You need to stay safe," he cut in, his eyes narrowing. "I'm not risking you being out there, where you can be targeted. This isn't up for debate, Katrina. You know how Marcos is," My chest tightened with frustration. "This is my life! You don't get to decide everything for me." Silas leaned back in his chair, his gaze hard. "I decide what's best for you, and that's final. As for Aiden, Blair will handle his kidnapping. You don't need to worry about it." His dismissive tone made my blood boil. "You can n't just brushoff like this, Silas. I care about- "Katrina," he said sharply, his voice like a warning. "Enough." That one word was enough to tellthat I shouldn't push it and should just let it go.

I clenched my fists, biting back the rest of my words. He wasn't going to listen, and I knew it. I really had no say in matters that concerned my life.

This was supposed to be big for me, it was important and right now it was being takeb away from me.

What was the point of everything I had that day in the meeting room? Maria had walked in onon my knees, why had I done all that if not for this? Maybe because you enjoyed it. I tried it to shake off the voice in my head that reminded me, focusing on what was happening right now.

2/4 Chapter 88 Without another word. Iturged on my heel and stormed out of the room and slamming the door behind me. When I got to my room. I paced back and forth in anger. Silas always thought he knew what was best, always turningdown without a second thought. I hated how powerless he madefeel. Was there ever a tI was in control of my own life? Definitely not. I lived under Marcos' jurisdiction, waking and sleeping only when he let me. And now it's Silas' tellingwhat to do.

I couldn't live this way.

Throwing myself on the bed, I buried my face in the pillow, trying to calm down. But my anger wouldn't letfall asleep. That was when I smelled it, it seemed as if something was burning.

But why would I be perceiving the smoke here? My head shot up, and my heart skipped a beat in fear as something cto sight.

I jumped to my feet, coughing as I noticed the thick black smoke curling under the door.

My eyes widened in horror as the realization hit me.

The room was on fire.

How the fuck did the room get on fire?

rushed to the window, yanking at the udge.

lock, but it wouldn't budge. The heat was getting stronger, and the flames were creeping closer. Panic clawed at my chest as I realized I had no way out.

I was locked in with the room on fire.

"Help!" I screamed, banging on the door.

Each tmy fist connected with the door, the pain shot up my arm, makinghiss.

The door was on fire.

"Somebody, help me!" The smoke filled the room quickly, making it hard forto breathe.

My vision blurred, and I stumbled back, my body trembling.

I coughed wildly, covering my nose with my hands to prev nous to prevent myself from inhaling the smoke. But it seemed too late already. My lungs burned as my chest constricted.

I needed to get out of this room, else I'd die.

I didn't know if anyone could hear me. I didn't know if I'd make it out alive.
