Brandon was still catching his breath, his chest rising and falling in sharp, uneven waves.
Sophia lay sprawled across his bare chest, their skin still slick with sweat where they touched. The lingering dampness, along with
the way his heartbeat hammered beneath her cheek, reminded her just how wild things had gotten between them.
Desire had a way of making people et about consequences.
Now, Sophia just wanted to sink through the floor and disappear.
The more intense and urgent they'd been just moments ago, the more awkward she felt now.
Brandon, at least, had the presence of mind to remember that Theresa and Grace could walk in at any moment. He hadn't let

between them even more heated.
“You should've waited forin the other room,” Brandon said, his voice rough and low, still tinged with want and restraint.
Sophia could feel how much he was holding back.
Every muscle in her body was still tense, as if she'd hit pause on something that wasn’t finished. Brandon hovered over her now,
more like an athlete forced into a timeout than someone satisfied and at ease.
He'd been careful with her, stopping short of going too far.
“| just wanted to talk, not... this,” Sophia mumbled, her own breathing finally evening out.
Brandon glanced down at her. “You okay now?”
“Huh?” She blinked up at him, confused.
“I'm not,” he murmured, his voice gravelly.
Before she could process what he meant, he caught her hand and gently rolled her onto her back.
Sophia didn’t have a chance to object before his lips found hers again.
The little sofa bed in the study wasn’t much—just big enough for one, not particularly sturdy. After the way they'd just treated it,
the frwas already creaking and groaning under their weight. Sophia tried to push him off, taking advantage of a lull in his
kisses to turn her head and dodge his lips.
“Theresa’s going to be back soon,” she gasped, breathless.
She had no idea how long they'd been in here—the heavy curtains blocked out all the daylight, leaving her no way to tell what time
it was.
Brandon stopped, but he didn’t move away. He stayed right where he was, braced above her, hands planted on either side of her
head, his gaze fixed intently on her.
