Sophia gave him a gentle smile. “It’s all right.”
Her eyes darted to the phone he'd just taken from her, and she tried to fill the silence. “That's my phone, isn’t it?”
Brandon forced himself to calm down. He looked at her, silent for a long moment, then nodded. “Yeah. It is.”
Sophia couldn't help but laugh softly. “No wonder... When | first woke up, even though | couldn't remember a thing, | didn’t care
who | was. | didn’t even want to look for my family...”
Brandon's gaze darkened withplicated emotion.

Sophia just shook her head and tried to smile, but the ache in her chest wouldn't go away. Her eyes burned, and tears threatened
to spill over at any moment.
“It's strange,” she choked out, her voice trembling. “I never thought being lied to could feel so happy.”
She tilted her head back, meeting Brandon's eyes, and spoke with genuine gratitude. “Thank you, Brandon.”
Thank you for not tellingeverything. Thank you for lettinglive in such a beautiful dream, if only for a little while.
A part of her hated Hannah for telling her the truth—that she and Brandon were already divorced.
She hated herself, too, for digging through Brandon's drawer, for picking up that phone. She never wanted to know any of this.
She could have stayed in the dream he made for her forever.
Her tears finally broke free, falling in heavy drops, and her whole chest felt as if it were caving in.
Each teardrop landed like a hammer on Brandon's heart.
He opened his arms and gently pulled her into an embrace.
