"What's up? What happened?"
Louis and Gerald were both freaked out by Brandon's sudden move and rushed over to ask.
Brandon didn't say a word, let go of Martin's arm, and chucked the white jade necklace in his hand to Louis.
Louis instinctively caught it and was momentarily stunned when he saw the white jade necklace clearly. Then he looked at
Brandon.
Martin also turned his head just in tto see the object Louis caught - that vintage-looking white jade necklace. His emotions
suddenly becunstable, and his eyes locked on Brandon, "Where did you get this?"
He recognized that necklace, not only because Yolanda used to treasure it and wear it every day, not letting anyone else touch it,
but also because she had it with her before she went missing.
The reason Martin had such a vivid memory of this was that he had joked around with her on the road once and accidentally
damaged the necklace. Yolanda, always obedient, made a huge fuss and insisted he find a shop to fix it right away. To calm her,
they had to wander a big circle in the snow, but unfortunately, they couldn't find a repair shop and had to give up for the time
being.
As to whether Yolanda still had the necklace on her when she disappeared, nobody knew for sure. After all, the necklace was
broken and couldn't be worn, so they put it in her little bag she carried with her. That bag was found during the subsequent search,
but it was worn to shreds, and whatever had been inside was long gone.
On the other hand, the bracelet that Brandon had custom-made for her was always securely on her wrist, so when they found
Marian, they didn't bother to ask about the whereabouts of the white jade necklace after seeing her bracelet.
Martin never expected to see this white jade necklace again after twenty years.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLouis, Gerald and Rachel couldn't believe it either, and everyone simultaneously turned their gazes toward Brandon.
Marian was clueless, blankly staring at the unremarkable bracelet in Louis' hand, not quite grasping the significance of the object.
But Brandon's sudden intrusion and everyone's reactions amplified her innate sense of danger to the max, a strong sense of
unease making her struggle instinctively, "What are you doing? You're hurting me."
But her complaint didn't evoke the slightest pity from Brandon. He gripped her arm through her clothes, unyielding.
Brandon didn't even look at her, just emotionlessly stared at Martin, "You don't need to worry about where it cfrom; you need
to cto the hospital withnow."
Louis was still confused, "Why would you go to the hospital in the middle of the night?"
Brandon replied, "To clear Yolanda's name."
Louis, Gerald and Rachel were all silent.
Marian's face turned pale, and she suddenly struggled violently to break free, "Brandon, are you out of your mind?! Sophia died
and you keep coming after me; what's your problem?"
Brandon ignored her, tightened his grip on her arm, and forcefully dragged her towards the door.
Marian, panicking, turned to Louis, struggling while pulling her collar down to show the bruising around her neck, starting to cry,
"Grandpa, save me, Brandon's lost it. He just tried to offin Zion City the other day; if it wasn't for Mr. Dempsey and Kent, |
might be dead."
The bruising on Marian's neck was bad; Louis had noticed it when she chand had asked her about it, but she brushed it
off as an "accident" and never revealed how she got it.
Louis never imagined it was Brandon who did it.
Although he didn't know the reason, seeing Brandon's cold and unfamiliar demeanor, Louis feared he might do something irrational
and quickly tried to intervene, urging worriedly, "Brandon, let's sit down and talk this through; what are you trying to do now?"
Gerald and Rachel also hurried forward to intervene, "Yeah, let's talk it out; don't be rash."
Brandon pushed Marian back forcefully, glaring at them coldly, "Her life isn't worth dirtying my hands! If you have any memory of
Yolanda's goodness, stay still!"
Louis, Gerald and Rachel were stunned by Brandon's contradictory statement, and out of fear that he might hurt Marian, they
stood frozen in place.
Brandon's eyes were now coldly fixed on Martin, who was still standing there, "Martin, don't makedrag you there too! How long
will you keep aiding and abetting this wolf you've brought into our midst?"
Martin looked at him with a complex expression, then slowly at the white jade bracelet in Louis' hand, and didn't move.
Marian looked at him pleadingly, "Martin."
Her voice was so pitifully pleading it broke one’s heart.
Martin glanced at her, then back at Brandon, "I'll go to the hospital with you."
"No! | don't want to go to the hospital!"
Suddenly, Marian becfrantic, struggling desperately, "lI won't go; | hate hospitals. Grandpa, dad, mom, please, don't make me
go to the hospital, I'm scared."
Louis" heart softened at her crying; he knew how much she feared hospitals, especially since she also had a blood phobia.
"This late at night, why drag her to a hospital?"
He couldn't help but speak up, moving forward to try and rescue Marian from Brandon's grip, but was stopped by a cold glance
from Brandon before he could even touch her.
He had never been looked at that way by Brandon before, and he froze, his hand hanging in mid-air.

After saying that, Brandon dragged Marian away without looking back, heading straight for the car parked at the door.
Marian was totally freaking out, didn't give a hoot about her image, and kept struggling so desperately that she even used her
teeth and feet, scratching, biting, and kicking, trying to wiggle out of Brandon's grip. But no matter how wildly she thrashed about,
she couldn't even make Brandon budge an inch.
Her fuss and cries also woke Renata, who had been resting in the room.
Next thing they know, she was shakily walking out of her room with her reading glasses on, and her eyes light up when she saw
Brandon holding Marian. She was over the moon and asked him, "Brandon, you're here? What about Yoli, is she in the car too?"
As she spoke, she started to wobble toward Brandon's car, holding onto her glasses and peering in, all the while rambling and
correcting herself, "No wait, it's Sophia. Sophia doesn't likecalling her Yoli. | should say Sophia."
As she was saying this, she raised her voice to the dark windows of the car, yelling, "Sophia, Sophia? Did you cto seetoo?"
A lump formed in Brandon's throat once again. He looked at Renata and forced a smile, "Mrs. Frost, Sophia's got something on her
plate; can't make it for now."
