Chapter 170
Chapter 170
Beside Owen, a middle-aged man was speaking in a panicked tone, his forehead drenched in sweat. Richard was
blocking the man from getting any closer.
Hailey saw the man’s profile and her eyes instantly dilated.
The middle-aged man had a strong resemblance to Finley. Tall and thin, he didn’t carry the usual middle-aged
heaviness but instead looked almost painfully thin. He was, after all, Finley's brother.
Despite their shared bloodline, he seemed unusually well-groomed and strikingly handsome.
Hailey clenched her lips tightly.
With just one glance, she recognized who he was. Ile was Finley's younger brother-her uncle and Owen's
biological father.
Her heart dropped, and her face turned pale.
‘How could he be standing in front of Owen?‘ Hailey thought in a panic.
Her legs felt weak, and she nearly collapsed on the spot. The secret she had hidden so carefully for so long could
now be exposed to Owen. She couldn't allow it.
Instinctively, Hailey began to walk toward Owen, but halfway through, she froze. She ducked behind a crowd,
breathing deeply to calm herself.
It seemed like Owen didn’t believe whatever the man was telling him, so Hailey had to wait. If she rushed in now,
she might raise Owen's suspicion.
If she rushed over rashly, it would make Owen Calhoun suspicious.
She carefully waited, watching as Owen and Richard left the bar. After a moment, she followed at a safe
distance.
Owen got into the backseat of the car without a word. Richard, however, looked visibly annoyed as he stopped
the man from following. “Sir, this is the end of the line,” Richard said coldly. “If you try to follow us again, I'll
have to call the police.”
Parker Henderson grabbed Richard's arm desperately, his voice shaking. “I-I’'m really Owen's father. If you don’t
believe me, we can do a paternity test.”

Richard didn’t believe a word but couldn’t make a scene in front of so many people. He simply shrugged off
Parker's arm and got into the car, speeding away.
Parker clenched his fists, trying to stop a taxi to follow, but someone grabbed his arm.
He turned around, surprised to see Hailey-cold and composed, her beauty almost unnerving. “Who are you?”
Parker asked, confused.
Hailey didn’t answer immediately. She dragged him into a nearby alley beside the bar.
“Who are you really?” Parker asked, now afraid of the elegant, cold girl standing in front of him.
Hailey took a deep breath and looked him straight in the eye. “Is Finley your brother?”
Parker froze for a second before nodding.
Hailey’s head throbbed as she exhaled slowly. “How did you find out Owen was your son?”

Parker looked at her warily. “You still haven't toldwho you are.”
“Finley is my father.” Hailey said.
Suddenly, Parker understood. His attitude shifted, becoming warm and cager. “You're my niece!”
Hailey took another deep breath, her voice steady but firm. “Who told you that Owen was your son?”
Parker scratched his head nervously. “I received an anonymous email.”
Hailey pressed her hand to her forehead, taking in a deep breath. She suddenly felt that everything happening
now was being pushed forward by an invisible hand.
She had fought so hard to keep this secret, even letting Owen believe she had fallen out of love, but now
someone had directly brought Parker in front of Owen.
This was unbearable.
“You cannot acknowledge Owen as your son,” Hailey said, her tone grave.
“Why not?”
“Unless you want him to suffer, then go ahead and tell him,” Hailey’s voice was cold, the words almost like ice.
“If you want him to live a life of misery, then let him know he’s been in love with his cousin.”
Parker was stunned, his face showing disbelief as he stared at the girl in front of him, her body trembling with
emotion.
“Is this the secret you've been hiding from me?” a deep, raspy voice suddenly interrupted from behind.
Hailey froze, her heart pounding as she turned. Her gaze landed on Owen's tall, cool figure, and suddenly,
everything seemed to tilt. The sunlight above made her feel faint, and for a moment, she thought she might
collapse from the weight of the situation.
Her head spun, and her face turned ashen.
With a soft thud, Hailey collapsed to the ground.
“Owen...” She struggled to call out his name.
Owen quickly stepped forward, bending down to scoop her up into his arms. His strong hand tightened around
her delicate waist as he held her carefully.
“I'll take you to the hospital. You've fainted from the heat,” Owen murmured, his voice gentle but filled with
urgency.
Hailey’s forehead was slick with sweat as she clutched his shirt tightly, unable to speak through the pain that
wracked her body. She felt utterly helpless, her breath shallow and weak.
Owen's face was expressionless as he carried her out of the alley.
Hailey never expected that the secret she had fought to protect would be exposed in such a way. And with Owen
hearing it directly from her, there was no room for denial or explanation.
Her world seemed to collapse as she heard his voice, the weight of her mistake pressing down on her with
suffocating force.
Hailey’s vision blurred as she lost consciousness in Owen's arms.
At the hospital, Hailey was hooked up to an IV to rehydrate.

It wasn’t until 9 PM that Hailey regained consciousness. The sky outside was completely dark.

Her head still throbbed, and although she hadn't eaten all day, she had no appetite.

The room was empty when she awoke. She sat up and walked over to the window, pulling back the curtains to
let the night breeze in
The sound of the door opening made her turn around,
Owen walked in holding a bowl of oatmeal. Hailey met his gaze, and the two of them exchanged a long, wordless
stare.
Owen's deep, cold eyes locked onto her for a moment before he sighed and placed the oatmeal on the table,
spooning sinto a small bowl. “Eat something,” he said softly.
Hailey lowered her head, her eyes reddening again as she nodded faintly. She walked over to the table and sat
down.
Owen watched her from a distance, his gaze clear and calm.
Hailey ate a little, setting the bowl aside when she'd had enough.
Owen walked over, a soft laugh escaping him as he said, “Even cats cat more than you,”
Hailey tried to smile but couldn’t manage it.
Owen cleared away the dishes, setting them aside before sitting down across from her. His eyes, calm and deep,
studied her with quiet intensity.
Hailey shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, her neck feeling tight and warm.
Owen sighed quietly and reached out, gently running his thumb along her soft cheek. “You've lost so much
weight.”
“Owen,” Hailey whispered, her voice hoarse as she grabbed his hand. “We shouldn't be like this.”
