hapter 6 Earlier that morning.
"We did it, Mrs. Miller!" Karen Blade squealed excitedly like a child.
Linda Miller, on the other hand, simply smiled. "Yes. We finally managed to kick that social climber out of my son's life. This deserves a toast." Picking up the bottle of expensive wine, she poured it into the two glasses on the serving tray. She usually would have called one of the ser**ts to do it for her, but she didn't want anyone listening in on her conversation with Karen.
Once each had a glass in hand, they clinked them together in a toast: Linda brought her glass to her lips elegantly and took a sip of the wine, enjoying the taste of victory. Swould say it was too early to drink wine, but sometimes, you just had to make exceptions.
Karen sighed blissfully. "Oh, Mrs. Miller, I honestly thought we would never see this day. After everything we did so that Kris wouldn't marry her, he still went ahead and married her. I thought he would never leave her." The night before Kris and Thalassa's wedding. Karen had forced Thalassa to calong with her under the guise of a bachelorette party. There, she drugged Thalassa's drink. Afterwards, she got someone to pretend to be having sex with Thalassa, taking pictures to make it seem like Thalassa was cheating on Kris.
When they showed the pictures to Kris, they expected him to call off the wedding, but to their shock, he still went ahead and married Thalassa.
| "That woman definitely placed my son under skind of spell, but I thank God that we've finally been able to break it," Linda sneered, raising her glass for another toast.
Karen was just about to sip sof the wine, but her hand froze midair as a troubling thought occurred to her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtall of a Linda noticed her sudden change of expression and questioned, "What is it? Why so serious a sudden?" "Mrs. Miller, what about Thalassa's pregnancy? I know we made Kris believe she was lying, but she's truly pregnant." "Oh, that's why you're suddenly so worried?" Immediately, a smile crept onto Linda's face as she waved her hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. I took care of that little problem last night." Karen froze. "What do you mean?" Linda didn't reply, but her smile gave Karen her answer. Karen gasped, her eyes widening.
"Mrs. Miller, did you send someone to hurt Thalassa? You didn't do that, right?" Yes, she'd wanted Thalassa out of Kris's life so she could have Kris all to herself, but that didn't mean she wanted someone to harm her.
Linda's smile immediately dropped as she glared at Karen. "Don't tellyou're starting to feel guilty about everything we did to get that woman out of my son's life?" +25 BONUS.
She let out a huff of disbelief. "Don't be foolish, girl. That lowlife stole my son from you even though you were the one who loved him first. She didn't care about your so-called friendship, so why should you? Besides, do you really think that if I allowed her to have that baby, she wouldn't have tried to use it to get my son back?" Karen was conflicted for a few more seconds, but she shook her head to ward off the tinge of guilt she was feeling. Mrs. Miller was right. Thalassa hadn't cared when stealing Kris from her, so why should she care? "I'm sorry, you're right." Linda's smile returned. "Good. Now that's the spirit I want from my future daughter-in-law." She winked. Now go and show my son that you're the perfect woman for him. He's in the study room." She'd always wanted Karen as her daughter-in-law because Karen was from a wealthy family and part of their social class, unlike Thalassa, who was nothing but a lowlife who had seduced her son.
Karen beamed excitedly as she slipped out of Linda's room and went downstairs. She was wearing a dress with buttons on the front, and as soon as she was in front of Kris's study room door, she made sure the first three were unbuttoned, exposing her pumped-up cleavage. After that, she knocked gently door.
"Cin," Kris's voice csseconds later.
"Hey," she said coyly when she stepped into the study room.
on the Kris looked up briefly at her before returning his gaze to his laptop. "Karen, what are you doing here?" "I just wanted to see how you were doing." When he looked at her blankly for several seconds, she blushed, "I'm so inconsiderate for even asking that. How do I expect you to feel after what Thalassa did to-" "I don't want to talk about that." Kris cut her off with a sharp edge to his tone.
Karen didn't mind the sharp edge. She was just happy that even the mention of Thalassa's nmade Kris so upset. It meant that he really hated her, just as Karen had wanted.
Now it was tto take full advantage of that.
Immediately, she contorted her face into a forlorn look “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I know you don't want to talk about it, but I feel so quilty." She sank into the couch by the wall as she forced sfake tears down her face. “I feel so guilty because I was the one who introduced her to you. I brought her into your life, and she has hurt you so much. And I kept covering up her lies for her. I'm so sorry." Hearing the sniffles in Karen's voice, Kris got up and walked towards her, sitting beside her on the couch. "You don't have to feel guilty. It's thanks to you that I found out the kind of woman she was on the day of our wedding. I was the one who was s**id enough to still marry her despite everything. I understand that she was your best friend, so it must've been very hard for you to reveal the truth about her, and I'm very grateful for that." +25 BONUS Chapter Karen sniffed. "So you're not upset with me?" She turned her body towards him, making sure that her exposed clea didn't look down even once.
was on full display, but Kris "Of course not. So don't worry," he answered and got up, returning to his desk without even taking one look. Karen gritted her teeth, fuming silently.
e wasn't the first time. Before, Kris never noticed all the efforts she made to seduce him. She'd thought that things would be different with Thalassa gone, but he still wasn't taking notice of her.
Just then, his phone rang. Kris's whole body froze when he saw the caller ID. Karen frowned, wondering who had called him, but she quickly figured it out judging by his reaction.
She immediately got up, knowing she had to do something. "It's Thalassa, isn't it? Are you going to answer?" Kris had unlocked the phone, his finger hovering over the answer button as he contemplated whether to answer or not. In the end, he tossed the phone aside on the desk without answering.
He knew he'd told Thalassa to call him when she was ready to have her belongings delivered to her, but he wasn't ready to speak to her. He still felt too raw on the inside.
Almost immediately after it stopped ringing, it started ringing again. Kris gritted his teeth, trying to focus on his laptop screen.
the Just as the second ring stopped, there was a knock on the door, and one of the maids cinto th office.

"Wait! Kris, you forgot your..." Karen was just about to tell him that he'd forgotten his phone when a notification sounded.
Kris had tossed his phone aside without locking it, so the message appeared directly on the screen Without hesitation, Karen walked towards the phone, her heart skipping a beat when she saw that it was a message from Thalassa that read: Sweetheart, I was attacked last night on the street, and I'm in the hospital right now. Unfortunately, our baby couldn't survive. Please csee me. I need you.
Karen's heart squeezed. So Linda had truly sent someone to attack Thalassa. She quickly shook the guilt away. Linda was right. This was for the best. She couldn't allow Thalassa to cbetween her and Kris again. She couldn't let Kris see this message. And she needed to do something that would make Thalassa give up. A wicked idea occurred to her.
Picking up the phone, she tapped on the message and typed a reply: So what should I do? Deal with it. I don't care.
+25 BONUS Chapter 6 After hitting send, she deleted the two messages and set the phone back onto the desk before walking out of the study with a smirk on her face.
