Chapter 100 Chapter 100 +25 BONUS Their eyes locked for a second. Thalassa was the first to look away. Suddenly realizing that he was still holding her hand, she gently shifted it, prompting him to finally let go.
Clark cleared his throat. "I'm sorry for keeping you later than expected with this hospital trip. I'll take you himmediately after this. As for the report, don't worry about it. I'll personally take care of it. But before that, I really need to know, Lassa, who do you suspect sent that man to attack you?" Thalassa's expression darkened. "I'd rather not talk about." Clark let out a long sigh. "You never want to talk about anything I ask about. You never even toldwhat happened between you and Kris to make you two get divorced." Clicking her tongue, she grew annoyed with his insistence and sneered, "Do you mean to tellthat you never bothered to look it up, even after I told you it was all over the news?" "No," Clark shook his head. "I never looked it up because I was hoping that one day you would trustenough to tellabout it. I wanted to hear it from you personally, not sarticle." The gentle need for understanding in his eyes cracked Thalassa's resolve. "Okay. I'll tell you." So she did.

She narrated how he did his best to make her unhappy because he believed the lies of his mother and Karen; how his mother set her up for a crshe didn't commit, which finally caused their divorce; how she was attacked after leaving the house and lost her child in the process; and how sure she was that it was his mother who sent someone to attack her. 1 By the tshe was done, Clark's mouth had dropped open in shock. “Oh God. You went through all that? And Kris? Does he know the truth that it was his mom who framed you and also harmed your child?" Thalassa felt a surge of bitterness as she scoffed. "To him, his mother is nothing but an angel who can do no wrong. He refuses to believe me." "Even with evidence?" he asked.
"No. So far, I haven't gotten any concrete evidence against her,” Thalassa admitted. “She always made sure to leave no traces that would lead back to her or anything to implicate her." Clark nodded slowly. “I mean, I understand Kris. It's his mom, after all. I know my parents are dead, but if someone ctoaccusing my mom of such vile things without evidence, I wouldn't believe it either." Thalassa's expression hardened. "Are you going to defend him too?" Clark quickly changed his tone. “No, of course not. Kris is an idiot for believing those lies about you years ago and never doing enough to protect you." A thought struck him then. "Does that mean you think it's linda Miller who sent the man to attack you outside the restaurant?" Thalassa nodded slowly. "I'm sure of it." Anger and disbelief flashed through Clark's eyes. "Oh God, can't believe that woman is so vile. Hasn't she harmed you enough?" "She's the devil herself," Thalassa said, her voice frigid. This time, when she shifted her hand to give him the signal to let go, he continued holding on.
"Now I understand," he said, his light brown eyes staring into hers.
She swallowed. "Understand what?" "Why you changed so much. You were so full of life before, so happy, but they took your smile away. Even now when you smile, it doesn't feel the same." Thalassa immediately got up to try and end that line of conversation. “Perhaps we should get going, Clark." She tried to free her hand again, but Clark didn't let go as he also stood up.
