Chapter 868

However, there was nothing about him online-not a single article, no photos, not even a name.

When Marguerite's husband tried searching for him, he found nothing. So who was this man who could make

Marguerite so willing to marry him and have his child?

Silas couldn't picture what this enigmatic man looked like.

And yet, strangely enough, everyone around Marguerite felt oddly familiar to him.

Her son—even her assistant, Chuck-sparked a sense of déja vu; they felt close and yet, at the stime, like

strangers.

But now that everything had settled, Silas no longer cared to untangle the reasons why.

Because Marguerite's heart was already crystal clear to him.

And moving forward, he knew he couldn't keep fooling himself.

It was tto bring this relationship to a close.

Silas set his phone aside and pushed down his emotions, his voice cold as he ordered, "Drive."

"Yes, Mr. Ward!"

Meanwhile, in the hospital room-

Maurice reluctantly let go of Marguerite after holding her for a long moment.

Marguerite went to the bathroom to wash the blood from her face. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Penelope

and Jocelyn barging in with Hayes and Manley in tow.

Penelope's voice was sharp with worry. "Marguerite, are you alright? Turn around -letsee!"

Without waiting for an answer, she grabbed Marguerite's shoulders, checking her from head to toe. Marguerite

felt dizzy from being shaken and quickly twisted Penelope's hand away.

"Mom, I'm fine."

"Are you sure? Don't try to put on a brave face!"

Marguerite sighed. "If | wasn't okay, would | be walking around like this?"

"But you're covered in blood! I'm not letting this go-we're getting a full checkup, now."

Penelope tried to pull her toward the door, but Marguerite stood firm.

"It's not my blood. It's Maurice's."

Penelope and Jocelyn both froze. Marguerite continued, "He took a bullet for me."

For a second, the room fell into a heavy silence.

Hayes and Manley exchanged glances, only now noticing Maurice lying on the hospital bed.

Uncle Maurice took a bullet for Mom?

Hayes didn't know whether he should be grateful or if he should keep resenting him.

It was Jocelyn who finally broke the silence.

"I'm just glad you're safe. Be more careful next time. Have Ablett and Zoe been

caught? Do you know why they suddenly started shooting at you?"

Marguerite let out a weary sigh. "Yuna was executed today. They wanted revenge."

Penelope's frustration boiled over. "Ablett and Zoe still haven't been

brought to justice? | can't just sit

around and wait for something toet

happen. I'm calling the lawyers right now. Until they're arrested, Marguerite, you'd better not go anywhere!"

With that, Penelope stormed out of the room, never once glancing at Maurice.

Jocelyn reached out and squeezed Marguerite's shoulder, as if to comfort her.

Then she walked over to Maurice. "You took a bullet for Marguerite. As someone older, | have to thank you for

that, no matter what."

Maurice looked frail, his breath coming in shallow gasps.

He shook his head. "Jocelyn, it was the right thing to do. | believe if it had been Frederick here today, he would've

done the sfor Marguerite.”

Jocelyn's heart clenched at the mention of Frederick.

Hearing his nhurt her as much as it hurt Marguerite, though for different

reasons.

Marguerite already knew Silas was Frederick-she just hadn't told him yet.

But she hadn't shared this with Jocelyn. For one, Maurice was

present for another, Frederick

lost his memory, and Jocely would be devastated to learn the truth.

Right now, Marguerite just wanted to break the heavy atmosphere, so she offered

Jocelyn a glass of water.

"Jocelyn, have something to drink."

Jocelyn waved her off. "Don't fuss

over me. You two haven't eaten yet, have you? There's a café downstairs-I'll go grab something quick for all of

us. And | brought you a change of clothes, Marguerite. Find a moment to get cleaned up."

With that, Jocelyn turned and left. Hayes and Manley followed after her.

The three of them took the elevator down to the first floor. In the outpatient lobby, Hayes's attention was caught

by a self-service print kiosk.

He suddenly remembered seeing Silas's medical report at Margot's house; it was from this very hospital.

And the photo that mysterious online contact sent him looked almost identical to the corner of that report.

If he could get his hands on Silas's medical file and compare it to the photo, he'd finally know if Margot really

was the mysterious person behind those messages.
