Chapter 869

Hayes's eyes sparkled with determination as he glanced back at the printer.

Up ahead, Jocelyn walked hand in hand with Manley. Noticing that Hayes had fallen behind, she turned around

and called out, "Hayes, what are you daydreaming about?"

Hayes looked up at her, his face earnest. "Grandma, | suddenly don't want to go... It's so hot outside..."

Jocelyn glanced out at the sweltering sunlight beyond the doors. The heat was oppressive. She smiled and gently

patted Hayes's head. "Then why don't you head back to your room and find your mom, okay?"

Hayes nodded obediently.

Seeing that Hayes wasn't going, Manley immediately slipped his hand out of Jocelyn's grasp. “Grandma, if Hayes

isn't going, | don't want to go either."

Jocelyn chuckled, shaking her head at the pair. "Alright, but you two stay put and don't go wandering off. I'll be

right back. Do you wantto bring you anything?"

Hayes shook his head. "No, I'm good."

But Manley's eyes lit up with anticipation. He swallowed and piped up, "Grandma, | want ice cream! With two

scoops!"

Jocelyn laughed. "Alright, alright. Now off you go."

With that, she hurried out of the clinic lobby.

Manley immediately reached for Hayes's hand to head for the elevator, but Hayes darted over to an empty self-

service printer instead, glancing around to make sure no one was watching.

Manley stared after him, utterly confused. "Hayes, what are you doing? Aren't we supposed to go back to the

room?"

Hayes held a finger to his lips. "Shh! Don't say anything yet."

He started tapping away at the printer's screen, then pulled out his tablet. In no time, he'd hacked into the

hospital's system, found Silas's name, and started printing out every medical report he could find.

There were a lot of records under Silas's file. As each page cout, Hayes picked it up and examined it closely.

But none of them matched the mysterious photo that his online contact had sent him.

Finally, as the last CT scan slid out of the printer, Hayes's disappointment vanished. His whole face lit up.

He scrutinized the CT scan, then, just to be sure, pulled out his phone and opened the photo album to find the

image from his anonymous friend. He held the two side by side, comparing them carefully

His eyes grew brighter by the second.

Victory at last!

"I knew it! Margot isn't just anybody-she's my secret contact!" he exclaimed.

Manley blinked, still trying to piece things together. "How can you be sure?"

Hayes held up the CT scan and his phone for Manley to see. "Look! These two images are exactly the

and this is the one my secret

contact sent me!"

Manley stared at them for a long moment before the realization dawned. He muttered under his breath, "But |

still don't get it. Why would Margot send you her dad's scan?"

Hayes didn't bother explaining. Manley couldn't see what he saw in the scan, but that was fine-Hayes knew, and

that was enough.

"But Hayes," Manley went on, "if you've already figured out who your secret

contact is, do you still have to help her investigate the wafer?"

Hayes dumped the extra reports in the recycling bin, slipped the CT scan into his backpack, and shook his head,

stubborn as ever.

"| still have to help her. There's something | haven't proven yet."
