Chapter 145
The car door was slammed shut then.
Allison sat up straight, eyes closed, not daring to look out the window.
“Dr. Dylan, may the world be your oyster,” she said.
She wasn’t sure if she had ever really loved Dr Dylan, but he had given her fleeting comfort once.
Dunng her hardest times, Dr Dylan was always there, not caring about her status or that her mother
was critically ill. He was as gentle as a spring breeze.
A mocking male voice came from beside her. “Can’t bear to leave him, huh?”
Allison opened her eyes and looked at Lucian with a cold gaze. “We’ve broken up. I hope Mr.
Lindbergh keeps your word.”
She hadn’t expected Lucian to actually come pick her up.
The only reason she called Lucian was to make Dr. Dylan give up on her for good.

road.”
The driver glanced back at Lucian. Mr. Lindbergh didn’t say anything, so he kept driving
Allison looked at Lucian and thought: “Fine, if someone’s willing to take me home, I might as well go
along with it.” She looked exhausted, her high fever had just dropped, and she was pale and fragile.
She didn’t believe this man could do anything to her now.
It was rush hour, and traffic was heavy.
Suddenly, the car jolted, swaying from side to side.
Being weak from the fever, Allison’s body lurched forward and then swayed to the left.
Just then, a hand steadied her face.
Allison almost fell into the man’s lap.
The hand holding her face was warm. Allison’s cheeks were still slightly hot from the fever. Her hand
gripped the man’s suit trousers as she crouched in the car
The man lifted his other hand and pressed it against her forehead.
Allison flinched
Why had he suddenly become so gentle?
He hadn’t treated her roughly like he had in the morning.
Why had he changed so much by the afternoon?
She was about to stand up when the car started again, jotting her face into the man’s palm again. A low
chuckle filled her ears. Allison looked up to see Lucian’s face break into a small smile. It was as if he
were enjoying her discomfort, with a hint of amusement playing on his lips.
Allison quickly straightened up and sat back against the car door.
The car moved slowly all the way.
Finally, at 8 o’clock, they arrived at the Flanagan Mansion.

Allison, afraid that Leah Flanagan–Eaden would discover she had ridden home in Lucian’s car, decided
to get out early. “This is good. If Leah sees me getting out of your car, it might cause some
misunderstandings.”
The car stopped at the entrance of the community.
Allison got out of the car and went home.
She stretched lazily, feeling a bit hungry. She hadn’t eaten anything today and had been in a daze for
the past couple of days.
Just as she was about to make something to eat, she heard the sound of the gate opening from
outside.
Allison thought it was the Flanagan family’s maid, Linda.
She usually didn’t lock the yard gate because she lived in a famous community in Northfield, in a small
loft behind the Flanagan family villa, where security was guaranteed. And Leah and her family usually
don’t come here. In their eyes, this place was like an abandoned warehouse. They wouldn’t want to be
seen here,
afraid it would ‘dirty‘ their image.
“Linda, what’s up?” Allison asked.
