Chapter 239
Chapter 239
When Lauren saw Diana and Paisley chatting so warmly, she immediately felt a sense of crisis. She didn't care
about anything else, rushing to Paisley's other side and affectionately linking arms with her.
"Paisy, you're here. How's Rena? When can | go see her? You've been working so hard lately, you've lost weight,
and I'm really worried about you." Lauren's face was full of smiles, and her gaze at Paisley was like looking at a
precious little treasure. The other ladies and young women were all stunned. They had never seen this version of
Lauren. Laurence had never behaved so obsequiously toward Marissa. Paisley got goosebumps from Laurence's
overly friendly tone. She stiffly pulled her arm away from Laurence's grasp and replied coldly and indifferently.
"Rena and | are fine. There's no need for your concern."
Her actions and tone left no doubt about her attitude. The others watching were shocked again by how confident
and brave Paisley was in
front of Laurence.
Diana smiled triumphantly at Laurence. Seeing Laurence's face turn as sour as if she had swallowed something
bitter only made Diana feel more satisfied. "Diana, what's going on? Why did the police callhere?" Paisley
asked Diana nearby, still unaware of what had happened.

Seeing Paisley's cold demeanor toward her and her gentle attitude toward Diana, Laurence
felt a pang of jealousy. Her eyes glared at Diana with fury, as though she wanted to pierce her through.
Diana ignored Laurence's anger and sighed at Paisley, "You'll understand once you see"
Paisley followed Diana inside. Upon seeing Paisley, Christina ran toward her as if she had seen a savior and
pulled her in front of the two police officers. "Officers, my daughter is here. She'll be able to mediate now,"
Christina said, not even sparing Paisley a glance, focusing solely on speaking to the officers. Paisley glanced
around and spotted Brittany with red, swollen eyes-
clearly from crying. Across from her was a younger girl with a swollen cheek, obviously from being slapped.
The younger girl's mother, likely a member of the ssocial circle, stood protectively beside her, glaring
fiercely at Brittany and Christina. However, her expression softened slightly when she saw Paisley. From a quick
look, Paisley could piece together most of what had happened. Brittany must have lost her temper and slapped
the young girl.
The girl and her mother refused to accept an apology and called the police. Typically, the police wouldn't arrest
anyone outright in such situations, starting instead with mediation.
But the other side was adamant, unwilling to mediate. With no other choice, Christina had called Paisley for help.
One of the officers addressed Paisley. "Ms. Sulli-"
"Sutton," Paisley interrupted.
The officer paused, puzzled, glancing at Christina. Why did the two daughters have different last names?
He quickly moved on. "Ms. Sutton, letexplain the situation." The officer neutrally explained the sequence of
events to Paisley. Although Daisy had provoked Brittany verbally, it was a fact that Brittany had hit her.
Considering Daisy's swollen face and her ongoing complaints of ringing ears, it seemed the slap had been quite
heavy. If mediation failed, Brittany could face administrative detention-
or worse, legal consequences, depending on the severity of Daisy's injuries
Donna and Daisy looked at Paisley with mixed emotions. They weren't blind and could clearly see how Laurence
and Diana treated Paisley.
If Paisley decided to mediate, they would have no choice but to accept for fear of offending the Vanderbilt and
Beaumont families. But they felt bitterly unwilling.
"Paisley, | hope you understand. We only have this one precious daughter. She's been cherished since she was
born. We have never laid a finger on her, and now your sister has slapped her. It's simply outrageous!"
If Paisley weren't present, Donna's tone would have undoubtedly been much harsher. Christina and Brittany also

turned into a pitiful complaint. Brittany felt a mix of relief and increased jealousy and resentment toward Paisley.
Why was she always overshadowed by Paisley?
Christina, however, dropped her previous apologetic attitude. Standing tall, she acted like she had the
advantage. "I told you we could
mediate, but you insisted on calling the police. Now Paisley is here, you're suddenly playing the victim."
Donna glared at Christina in fury but held back because of Paisley, her hands trembling in anger and her eyes
reddened.
Paisley took it all in, her emotions stirring. How nice it must be to have a mother who stood by you.
"Officers, | think there's been a misunderstanding.
I'm not here to mediate. | just wanted to see what happened," Paisley said. gently, her tone calm and her gaze
soft. However, there was a hint of complexity in her expression. "Paisley, what do you mean by that?" Catching
the undertone of Paisley's words, Christina immediately questioned her.
Ignoring Christina, Paisley continued addressing the officers. "This has nothing to do with me, so please proceed
as you normally would. The victim's wishes should take precedence."
Donna and Daisy immediately looked at Paisley with gratitude. In contrast, Christina and Brittany weren't so
happy.
