Chapter 137

After Eloise finished speaking, she gently shrugged off Harvey's hand. "Veronica, let's hit the road."

Seeing Veronica's heartbroken and angry look, Eloise just lowered her head in silence.

Veronica flicked Harvey off, "You're such a piece of work. | hope karma gets you."

Eloise just quietly watched Veronica's retreating figure. "Veronica, cut it out. There's nothing between Attorney

Horigan and me."

Veronica knew that Eloise was putting up with all this for Angus. That was why she was swallowing her pride.

"Fine, let's head home." Veronica choked out through tears.

But then Harvey grabbed Eloise's hand again. This time, Eloise forcefully shook off his hand.

Griffin cforward and sincerely apologized, "Ms. Laurent, Joan is young and naive, and my wife and | have

been negligent. | apologize and hope you could give Harvey a chance to explain."

Eloise just gave a faint smile. She was hurting inside, but she still had to listen to these people making excuses.

Who else would care for her except Veronica?

Eloise turned to look at Griffin. "Mr. Lynch, you've done nothing wrong. Joan is your precious daughter, and

there's nothing wrong with you and your wife favoring her. As for Ms. Joan, she's just pursuing her own love.

There is nothing wrong with that either."

Eloise took a deep breath, her gaze sweeping over everyone's faces before she finally spoke, "Attorney Horigan

and | only knew each other briefly. | wish him and Ms. Joan happiness forever."

Griffin was taken aback. He didn't expect such resilience from the girl in front of him, which reminded him of

Louise.

Years ago, he and Louise had a fallout over smisunderstanding. Louise, too, cried as she cut ties with him.

Louise, where were you now? If you had a daughter, would she be like Ms. Laurent, enduring such injustice and

bullying?

Thinking of the daughter he never got to meet, Griffin's eyes welled up with tears. He wanted to say something

soothing to comfort the girl in front of him.

But Eloise had already turned to leave. She was in pain, but she kept her back straight.

Veronica was using all her strength to support her, her eyes full of tears, "Eloise, don't be so stubborn. If you

want to cry, just let it out. There are always going to be sbad people in life. If they hurt us, we should fight

back, not just take it."

Eloise paused for a moment. She said softly, "I will forget him, and start over."

Veronica was stunned.

And Harvey, who had followed them, heard Eloise's words. A trace of confusion crossed his face.

Eloise said she was going to forget him. Was she really going to forget him? Would she treat him as a stranger

after breaking up with him, calmly introducing him in front of her new boyfriend, just like she did with Max?

Images flashed through Harvey's mind. When they first met, on the ride back from the golf course, she was

inexperienced but pretended to be seasoned. In the French restaurant, where she played the piano.

All these moments had touched his heart.

Every little detail in their lives, every corner of their apartment was filled with affection and passion. He would

always call her by her nicknAstral while gently biting her ear when she was aroused.

Eloise was the first woman he had ever been with.

He felt regret. Harvey rarely felt this way when it cto relationships.

When he broke up with Joan years ago, he was very decisive. He had never regretted it since. Maybe because he

had a teenage crush on her. Maybe because of Griffin. But he had never regretted his decision, nor had he ever

thought that if he had spent more twith her, she wouldn't have left him for someone else.

Today he hurt Eloise. He felt deeply regretful, he wanted to make it up to her, and he didn't want to break up

with her.

They shouldn't end like this.

Harvey's hand clenched on the car door as he said, "I'll give you a ride."

Eloise was already in the car. She said very calmly, "Harvey, let's sever ties completely."

Her voice was soft, "Attorney Horigan, I'm not like you, | don't like to drag things out or be entangled when it

comes to relationships."

Harvey frowned.

He wanted to explain. But Eloise's eyes suddenly turned red, looking at him as she said, "Harvey, it hurts. Can

you just letgo now?"

He was stunned.

Eloise closed the car door forcefully. The sound of the door closing was loud, and Harvey's fingers got caught. In

an instant, a part of his finger turned purple.

Harvey instinctively stepped back, while Veronica cursed "Asshole," then drove

off.

Through the car window.

Harvey saw Eloise crying, not knowing if it was because of the pain, or because of him.

Joan cover.

"Harvey, your hand. Ms. Laurent, how could she do this to you? Harvey, I'll go with you to see a doctor."

Listening to Joan's good intentions, Harvey was very annoyed. He pushed Joan away. "Get lost."

Joan was stunned. She slowly looked up at the man in front of her, his face gloomy, like he had been betrayed,

no...worse than that.

Joan's heart was trembling. Did Harvey really fall in love with Eloise?

Harvey got in his car and drove off. The car was speeding, almost arriving at Eloise's place the stas

Veronica.

Eloise got out of the car without even looking at him, treating Harvey like a stranger.

His heart clenched. "Eloise."

Veronica, supporting Eloise, threw two pieces of paper at him.

"This is Eloise's diagnosis and surgery consent form. Have a good look. Where the hell were you when Eloise was

in agony? You bastard. You're not worthy of Eloise. And you're even less worthy of her feelings for you. You

should just stick with Joan, quit messing other people up."

After Veronica spat out her indignation, she felt a bit better. She helped Eloise up the stairs.

A moment later, the lights in the apartment turned on.

Leaning against his car, Harvey scrutinized Eloise's diagnosis and operation consent forms under the moonlight,

the tightly packed words almost suffocating him.

He was the one who had hurt Eloise. He had left her alone in the operating room.

Harvey remembered their first ttogether, and how the pain had brought tears to her eyes, soaking the

sheets.

Eloise was so pain-sensitive.

Instead of getting into his car, Harvey leaned against the door and lit up a

cigarette. He stayed there half the night.

When morning came, Veronica went out to buy breakfast. As she passed his car,

she couldn't help but spit.

"What a jerk."

Harvey didn't respond to her insult.

As soon as Veronica left, he quickly got out of the car, walked to Eloise's apartment, and rang the doorbell.

Eloise, thinking it was Veronica, struggled to get up and open the door. To her surprise, it was Harvey. He was

holding a few supplements and two breakfasts, including her favorite kind.

Eloise didn't let him in. She spoke in a bland tone, "Harvey, I'm just not feeling well. It's not a miscarriage. You

don't need to do all this. Besides, you had already broken my heart. Doing all this now was just pointless."
