Chapter 163

“Don’t give me that look. I’m spitting straight facts here,” Letitia replied. “Elgin, I’m a human being, a

free person, you can’t keep trying to rule my life!”

Even a casual chat with a male colleague was under his radar. Did he think he was the national police?

Mind his beeswax, please!

“I just care…” Elgin softened his tone, “I get jealous when you are so friendly with others.”

He wanted to be more laid-back about it, but he just couldn’t.

Elgin was used to having his cake and eating it, too. He had to possess anything he set his eyes on.

In the same way, if anyone so much as glanced at the woman he loved, it was like signing their death

warrant!

“I’m just being friendly, it’s not like I’m into him!” Letitia shot back. “Stop being jelly for no good reason!”

‘Then who do you like?” Elgin probed.

The room went silent as the grave.

“Letty, do you like me? Elgin pressed on. “Have you ever felt even the slightest flutter for me?”

Letitia turned her head away, refusing to look at him.

“If you don’t answer, I’ll take it as a yes.”

The moment Letitia heard that, she blurted out, “I don’t like you.”

“I don’t buy it.”

“Believe it or not, Letitia said. “How much longer are you planning to camp out here?”

Elgin hugged her tightly, his chin resting on her shoulder, “I know you hate me right now, it’s tough to

forgive me… Letitia, I can hardly forgive myself.”

He had spent the whole night awake yesterday, standing by the study window, chain-smoking one

cigarette after another.

He thought a lot, about every little detail of that night, about the child.

If the child was still here, Elgin was sure he and Letitia would still have a future.

But alas… sigh.

Unless they had another, but how could one be sure about such things?

Before, Elgin could force her to satisfy himself, but now he just couldn’t bear to.

“Let me go, Letitia said. “I’m leaving.”

He stepped back, giving her space.

Letitia made a beeline for the door, not looking back.

As she opened it, she saw the sign “Under Maintenance”.

So that was why no one had come in… Elgin had used the sign to block the door.

She put the sign aside and walked out just as some colleagues were coming towards her.

They looked at her in shock, noticing something behind her.

Letitia didn’t need to turn around to know what was up… Elgin had just walked out of the ladies’ room.

To hell with it, if he had no shame, why should she be embarrassed? It’s not like she was the one who

went into

he men’s room!

Chapter 163

She quickened her pace and left.

Elgin, cool as a cucumber, adjusted his sult sleeves and asked, “What did you see?”

The employees all shook their heads in unison, “Nothing at all.”

Satisfied, he left.

Back at the Jewelry Department, Letitia sat at her station, feeling her cheeks burning up.

Damn it, it was not she who was ashamed. There was no need to feel shy.

She could feel her colleagues looking at her with their weird gazes….

Letitia couldn’t take it and ducked into the break room to catch her breath.

Suddenly her phone rang, an unknown number, and it was international, too.

The first person that came to mind was Walden.

“Hello?” Letitla stepped into a corner to answer the call.

“It’s me,” came Walden’s voice. “Letitia, did you get all the emails I sent you?”

That was a sore spot for Letitia.

Those emails came at the worst possible time… but she couldn’t blame Walden.

“Yeah, I got them, read them and deleted them,” Letitia replied. “Everything good with you abroad?”

“Pretty smooth, and if nothing goes wrong, I’ll be back home next month.”

“Really?”

“Yes, because Mr. Millard is returning, I’ll be coming back with him.”

So that was the deal.

Letitia gripped the phone tighter and asked, “He doesn’t suspect you, does he?”

“No, we get along well, he’s not on guard,” Walden said. “And… he’s just a playboy who doesn’t have

Elgin’s moves or brains.”

“Stay safe, I’ll wait for your return.”

“Letitia, I know now’s not the time to ask, but I want to know what you think,” Walden said. “When the

truth comes out, will you leave Elgin for good?”

“Yes.” Letitia didn’t hesitate.

Walden fell silent.

After a pause, Walden added, “Let’s focus on finding the truth first, wait for me.”

Letitia ended the call.

Marcel’s death was always the crux of the conflict between the Ramirez and Sanders families.

As long as that mystery remained unsolved, she couldn’t live her life in peace.

Soon, very soon… next month.

Letitia thought where there was a life, there was hope.

When it was time to clack out/Letitia dilly-dallied for half an hour before leaving the office.

And there… Elgin was waiting in his Ferrari.

What a snooze fast!

She rolled her eyes at hirm and headed for the bus stop.

Chapter 40s

Elgin followed in his car.

Same old morning routine.

The bus swayed and jolted, stopping and starting, passengers getting on and off… Watching this,

Letitia hatched a plan to ditch Elgin,

Did she really have to go back to Ivory Towers?

She could meet up with Vidonia for some shopping! She didn’t need to live under Elgin’s watchful eye!

As the bus pulled into the stop, Letitia squeezed into the crowd of people getting off, bowed her head,

slipped through the chaos, and dashed into the throng.

With the rush hour crowd bustling about, Elgin was stuck in his car, his view blocked. Undoubtedly, he

didn’t notice her slip away.

Letitia hid behind a row of bushes, watching the loud red Ferrari continue to tail the bus as it slowly

drove

away…

She breathed a sigh of relief.

Mission accomplished!

“Elgin thinks I’ve got no trick up my sleeve against his stalking game?” Letitia muttered to herself. “Let

him follow.”

He’d realize she was long gone once the bus reached Ivory Towers and she wasn’t there to get off.

Letitia could nearly visualize Elgin’s expression, no doubt, one of frustration!

But right now, she was in high spirits.

Letitia whipped out her phone, ready to shoot Vidonia a text to meet up at the mall.

She was halfway through crafting her message when suddenly, everything went black.

Her phone clattered to the ground.

A sack got yanked over her head.

Just as Letitia was catching on, about to scream her lungs out, she got clocked hard at the back of her

neck.

Out like a light.

The perp was quick on his feet, dragging her into an alley lickety-split and chucking her into a van

before peeling outta there!

The bus pulled up near the Ivory Towers stop.

Elgin hit the brakes, eyes glued to the bus’s rear exit, waiting for that familiar figure.

But… as the bus rolled away, there was no sign of Letitia getting off.

What the heck?

Where was she?
