Chapter 1583
"What a shallow view!” Rhea snorted dismissively.
She put her phone back into her pocket and stowed her notebook and pen. Seemingly not wanting to
go yet, she took two steps forward and knelt before Austin to match his eye level.
She asked, "Do all herbal medicine practitioners like you think you're so great that you could save
people from illness and contribute to humankind?"
Austin chuckled coldly and retorted, "Do all mainstream doctors like you think our world is not chaotic
enough that you try to prove yourselves using various viruses? What do you have without your
equipment?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt'You are right, but can you conduct your experiment without the equipment?" Rhea remained calm and
clucked her tongue before stumping him with her words.
Austin was at a loss for words but thought he was right and snorted.
"I'm only curious how many people would risk their lives and act selflessly in the face of the virus during
doomsday," Rhea said thoughtfully, her arms dangling naturally and lying on top of one another in a
lovely curve.
She cocked her head pensively and looked like a curious, innocent girl who wanted to explore the
unknown. However, what she said was unsettling.
"Just because you're curious?” Austin found it hard to believe.
'What else?" She shrugged and looked indifferent. "Our world is so dull that I live for things that intrigue
me and make me want to learn more. If not, what's the difference between being alive and dead?
"You..." At this juncture, Austin realized it was impossible to reason with her. More accurately, it was
difficult even to communicate with her.
'This is because I can't guess and understand her thinking based on common sense. In other words,
she's not a normal person but a lunatic!'
Austin turned his face away, not wanting to say another word, as it would only be a waste of his breath.
He shut his eyes and tried to relax his body. Whenever the drug took its effect, he would be in such
agony that it would drain every ounce of his strength. He desperately needed to replenish it.
Rhea stared at his quiet profile, curled her lips, and stood up. "If you can get through this, you'll thank
me! However..." She did not finish her sentence and turned to leave.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAustin heard the sound of the door closing and only slowly opened his eyes after a while. Even though
Rhea did not finish her sentence, he knew what she wanted to say.
'If I can't get through this, then I might die! Death might be a relatively good end for me, judging from
the current situation. What I fear is that instead of dying, I would turn into some kind of monster.'
He slowly lifted his hand and saw the bulging green veins on its back. He lost a lot of weight because of
starvation over the past few days. His veins had become conspicuous because of the drug's
stimulating effect. He feared that one day he would become a monster that would disgust and terrify
even himself.
Now, he had no idea who could save him.
Feeling profoundly helpless, he struck the floor heavily with his fist and did not care if it bled. He had no
idea where he was, and Professor Thompson had died too.
'No one can save me. No one!'
