Chapter 198.1: Not a Chapter/ Update

TL: Hanguk

Hi, I have an update on the leak situation. The person responsible for this leak has reached out to me, explaining what happened and apologizing for their actions. So, I don’t have to worry about future leaks, at least for now. It turns out the website they used for the leak primarily deals with adult Patreon content. After obtaining leakers’ Patreon account session IDs (I’m not exactly sure how it works, but something like that), this website copies the Patreon posts. When this user did that, as they were also subscribed to my Patreon, it copied my content, resulting in this whole situation. They have since stopped doing this, so it shouldn’t happen again. However, to prevent such incidents in the future, I will be moving the Patreon posts directly to the website. Once a user subscribes to my Patreon, they will be able to access the content on my website by linking their Patreon account to the website. This way, I can implement the identifying information that many of you have suggested for individual users to detect and ban such behavior in the future.

Currently, I am still working on sorting everything out, so it will take some time, but it will be done soon. As for releases, I will post a mass release of 5 chapters for Patreon supporters this coming Monday (i.e., October 30th), and the regular releases (i.e., free releases) will start from Tuesday (i.e., October 31st). Then there will be another 5 chapter mass release for Patreon supporters, which I have planned for the following Sunday (i.e., November 5th). The second Patreon mass release might be pushed 1-2 days later depending on the situation.

Now, I will answer some questions that many of you have asked and requested on Patreon, Discord, or website comments:

1) Some of you have suggested a new approach instead of the current one. I would release only a few free chapters, typically 2-3, and after that, if users wanted more releases, they could donate. According to each chapter’s price limit, a new chapter would be released. For example, after 2-3 weekly chapters, if a new extra chapter is priced at $10, then every time I receive a donation equivalent to $10, I would release a new chapter.

My response to this is that I have considered this system, and while it’s implementable, it has some drawbacks. Firstly, it takes away from the enjoyment of translating (which doesn’t have much to begin with) and turns the translation process into more of a job. Under this system, I would only release a new chapter if you guys have donated a certain amount, in addition to the 2-3 free releases. Secondly, it may not be fair to donating users, and it might result in a reduced release rate, as I would only release extra chapters after receiving a certain amount of donations. I had other points in mind earlier, but I forgot them while writing all of this, so I won’t be implementing such a system.

2) Some Patreon users have suggested that they would be okay with not receiving any extra chapters but remaining subscribed just to show their support while I continue to release free chapters.

I really appreciate your thoughts, but as I’ve said from the start, when I began translating and before starting Patreon, I didn’t want to accept anyone’s hard-earned money (or their parents’ hard-earned money), regardless of how wealthy you might be, without offering something in return. That’s why I haven’t created a higher-tier option, which many of you requested just to show extra support. It’s also why I charge so little for Patreon. Sometimes, you get deeply invested in a story, and when you reach the last free chapter, you really want to read more. If it’s behind a paywall with a high price, it can lead to losing interest in the story. Sometimes, you may not be in a position to pay for the paywall amount but still do it, ignoring your real-life situation. I’ve been in such situations, and I don’t think it’s worth it.

3) Some questions were asked by a Patreon user:
– Are you trying to make some extra money or transition to full-time work?
– Do you enjoy the community of fans you’ve built up?
– Or is this just a hobby?

This is the first I started translating, and yes, I began as a hobby. I had no intention of starting Patreon initially, which I didn’t do for about a month or so. My mindset was that these are fan translations, and I initially made a lot of mistakes (I still do). Over time, more people started reading it, and all of you were very supportive. I enjoy being part of this community and translating for you. Some of you insisted on Patreon or Ko-fi, so I finally started it. I have a full-time job, and I don’t believe I can transition to supporting myself or my family with translations alone. Still, translations have allowed me to have more freedom in some aspects, which I appreciate. So, my focus isn’t solely on making money through translations, but having Patreon support does help and keeps me motivated and accountable to subscribed users. There are days when I don’t want to translate, or situations arise when I can’t, or I get busy, which can lead to not translating for 3-5 days, as has happened in the past. It can be difficult to get back into translating after such a break, and I’ve thought about stopping translating on many occasions. However, I’ve persevered due to the thought of disappointing the community and the subscribed Patreon users.

I may have missed some questions or some of the answers might not have come out the way I intended them to, but I’ve tried to address a few of them. If anyone has more questions, feel free to ping or DM and ask me in the Discord general channel.

Again, thank you everyone for your support and love. ????❤️

TL;DR: The person responsible for the recent content leak has come forward and issued an apology. I am working to prevent future occurrences by making Patreon posts accessible only through my website. While I’m still organizing this new system, I’ve scheduled mass releases for Patreon supporters in the upcoming week, with specific dates outlined for both free and supporter-only releases. In the remainder, I have answered some of the questions asked. That’s all.
