“What did you say?” Xavier shook his head. His mind was feeling a little fuzzy.
Turning his sight to Christopher, he requested, “Say that again.”
Without delay, Christopher climbed up from the floor and walked toward Xavier. “I said you can’t trust
Yulissa. She’s very cunning. There’s no way she’ll reveal her trump card that easily. I don’t know what
the black badge she was talking about is, but I know for certain she won’t hand it to you, Xavier.”
“You’re right.” Xavier gave his head a whack. When he raised his gaze to stare at Yulissa again, the
look in his eyes had sharpened greatly. “She’s no longer the Yulissa I knew last time.”
When Yulissa saw the murderous intent reappearing in Xavier’s eyes, she couldn’t help but glare at
Christopher. “Shut your mouth, Christopher! You know, I’m really curious about what your current
standing is as you speak to Xavier today. He has been saving and protecting you, but what about you?
How have you been repaying him? I’m not lying to him when I said I’ll give him the black badge if he
lets me go. I may have lied to you before, but that’s only because we aren’t friends. Xavier and I are
different because we were once in a relationship. As for you, I don’t know why you’re pointing fingers at
me in front of Xavier at this critical moment. Do you want to watch Xavier and I kill each other?”
Christopher was befuddled by her long-winded speech. Then he frowned deeply and exclaimed, “What
are you trying to say, Yulissa? What game are you playing?”
“Game?” Yulissa sneered, “Why do I need to play games? What I’m going to say next is the truth.”
As she spoke, she approached Xavier as though she wasn’t afraid of him anymore.
Xavier watched her every move closely and wordlessly with furrowed eyebrows. That was because his
brain was still in utter chaos, and he didn’t know what Yulissa was trying to do.
Due to the drug’s effect, he had no clue where to go next as he remained unmoved on his spot.
It was this extremely unstable mental state of his that Yulissa was planning to exploit.
“Xavier.” She stepped closer and closer to Xavier. “Did you really not notice Christopher’s impure
intentions? You should know how important that black badge is to Winnie. Have you thought about why
Christopher’s trying to prevent you from obtaining this black badge?”
Christopher frowned even harder at those words. “Yulissa! What are you trying to do?”
Then he stepped toward Xavier and grabbed his arm. “Your condition is unstable right now. You mustn’t
be bewitched by her! After you capture her, we’ll bring her back with us. For Professor White’s sake.”
“Christopher!” Yulissa roared. “Do you really have no idea who’s bewitching you right now, Xavier?”
Suddenly, she grabbed Xavier’s other arm. “I’ll prove to you that you’ve been cheated on! The person
Winnie cheated with is none other than the person standing in front of you, Christopher. Everything he
did, he did to separate you from Winnie. In fact, he even wants you gone from this world.”
“That’s enough, Yulissa!” Christopher was appalled by her audacity to weave blatant lies on the spot.
“You really will do anything to drive a wedge between us, huh?”
“I’m driving a wedge?” Yulissa sneered, “In that case, do you have the guts to tell Xavier the truth,
Christopher?”
“What truth? Your fictionalized version of the truth?” When he stopped speaking, he looked away from
her and tugged Xavier’s arm with a frown. “Stop listening to her nonsense, Xavier. Quickly, restrain
her.”
Closing his eyes tightly, Xavier said, “My mind is a mess right now.”
“Why? Even if I tell you I like Winnie right in your face at this moment, are you going to believe that she
cheated on you? You know how I’ve been spending time with her for the past few days through the
listening device. Shouldn’t you know better than Yulissa that we didn’t do anything immoral?”
“Don’t listen to his lies, Xavier. He’s very afraid of you right now. With how severe his injury is, he’s
having trouble even walking. That’s why he’s trying not to enrage you!” Yulissa exclaimed so loudly that
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇther voice almost drowned out Christopher’s.
As she spoke, she pulled out a phone. “If you don’t believe me, I’ve recorded everything that happened
in the basement that day.”
“What are you saying, Yulissa?” Christopher’s reaction was faster than Xavier’s. “Your phone was
taken away by Leandro back then! You have nothing to show Xavier. Are you trying to tell a bald-faced
lie in front of me right now?”
Yulissa chuckled. “What have you been doing in the police force for all these years? Did no one in the
police academy teach you that videos taken by smartphones are backed up in the cloud? So what if
someone had taken my phone away? I’ve already recorded everything that happened. Is it because
you’re feeling guilty? Because you’re afraid that Xavier will see the video I took?”
Christopher fell into a brief silence. If Yulissa isn’t lying, and her current phone does have the video she
recorded that day, then Xavier will see me taking off all my clothes in front of Winnie. He’ll hear me
wishing that I can meet with Winnie again our next lives and asking her if she’ll fall for me if he’s not
around… I’m not afraid of letting him know that I like Winnie. Even if the whole world knows about it, I
still won’t feel ashamed. However, if my feelings hurt Winnie and destroy her relationship with Xavier…
I don’t think I can live with it.
Gazing at the madwoman in front of him with disdain, he spat, “Yulissa, other than proving that you’re a
pervert, what else can your video demonstrate? Do you want to show Xavier how you broke Winnie’s
arm and then threatened to kill the other if one of us refused to do as you asked? Your behavior is
contemptible!”
“Why don’t you still understand, Christopher? With how things have turned out, it doesn’t matter if I’ll be
scorned or not. What’s important is that adversity reveals who’s a true friend. Isn’t what happened in
the basement that day enough to illustrate your relationship with Winnie?”
Yulissa promptly turned to Xavier and went on, “Do you remember the night you took the needle I shot
at Winnie in the old residential area? Did you see her cry for you? Do you remember how many tears
fell from her cheeks? I think not. However, when it comes to Christopher, she treats him very differently.
She bawled her eyes out for him, so much so that she temporarily turned mute. Not only that, but she
begged me to send him to the hospital and was even willing to kneel in front of me for it. In fact, she
didn’t mind stripping naked in front of my camera for him. “Think about it carefully, Xavier. Did she ever
do something like that for you in the past? I wager not. Do you know what he and that b*tch promised
to each other afterward? They promised to meet again in the next life. Furthermore, she was going to
change her name for him so you can’t find her. She even said that if you aren’t around, she’ll definitely
fall in love with him. You’ve been cuckolded by him, yet you still want to bring him back to the country.
Don’t you think you’re being too merciful to your love rival? Kill him now. Push him off the building.
Then, Winnie will be yours and yours alone.”
“Yulissa White! What are you doing this for? Are you trying to kill me? If you are, please don’t do it by
slandering others!”
“Hah! Who are the ‘others’ you’re referring to, hmm? Trying to shift the blame, are you, Captain
Bennett? Back then, you—”
“Enough! Stop arguing with each other!” Xavier felt as though all the blood inside his body was rushing
to his head. The bickering was frustrating the h*ll out of him.
Christopher was worried Xavier would lose control at any moment due to his emotional instability. Thus,
he stopped speaking to avoid further irritating his friend.
Yulissa wasn’t that kind. Without hesitation, she played the video on her phone and showed it to Xavier.
“You can take a look at the video yourself to see if I’m lying or not. After all, a video isn’t something I
can fake.”
“Scram!” It was already a struggle for him to control his body properly, so he had no interest in watching
that video at all. Instead, he just slapped the phone to the ground.
The rooftop floor was made of solid concrete, which was why the phone instantaneously broke in half
when it landed on the ground.
Witnessing her phone turning into unusable garbage infuriated Yulissa. It was a new one she had
bought, after all.
Changing a phone was a laborious and vexing process. She had to get a new SIM card, reinstall all the
apps she used, and log back into all her accounts. In some cases, she even had to recover the
password. Yet, all that effort was for naught when her new phone was smashed in half.
At that moment, she felt like every step she took in life was a failure, and she still hadn’t done anything
successful yet.
Realizing that aggravated her to no end. Losing her temper, she roared madly at Xavier, “I’m saying
that Winnie doesn’t love you anymore! She has had a change of heart and cheated on you! When you
were thinking about her from far away, she was having sex with Christopher inside the Horton
residence! She hasn’t been a virgin for a long time! You’re a pitiful, pitiful man! When you abandoned
me, you were destined never to find true love in this life again! Did you hear me, Xavier? Winnie
doesn’t love you at all! One day, she’ll work together with Christopher to kill you!”
Xavier’s mental state had already been destabilized by the drug’s influence.
All the nerves in his mind were stretched taut, as though they would break even in the absence of
external disturbance.
To make matters worse, Yulissa had been using the person he cared about the most to provoke him. In
that instant, his psychological defense was entirely shattered.
Like the times before, he abruptly became aggressive when his condition acted up.
Whenever that happened, he would madly throw things around. The first to fall victim to his rampage
this time was Yulissa.
Even after she was fiercely flung to the ground, she was still thinking about Christopher.
As she lay on the concrete floor, she howled at Xavier, “There’s still one more over there! Throw him
too! Toss him off the building!”
While the crazed Xavier couldn’t hear what Yulissa was saying, he did see Christopher behind him.
Without delay, he strode toward Christopher.
On their way into the city, Josiah discovered through the rearview mirror that their car was being
followed and promptly notified Winnie about it.
Glancing backward, she saw two cars preparing to change lanes and overtake them.
“What’s going on?” He frowned. “Are they Harold’s men?”
She glanced backward again. “I think so.”
“D*mn it! This shitty car can’t go faster than them.” There was a burning desire in his mind to tear the
vehicle he was driving into pieces. This crappy car is awful!
Nate couldn’t resist the temptation to glance backward when he spotted how nervous the other two
were. “Are these the subordinates of that person you said is trying to kill you?”
Eyeing him, Winnie replied, “Thanks to you, he’s about to succeed. Don’t blame me if you get killed by
accident. You brought this on yourself.”
He frowned. “I can’t die right now. I still have to meet with her. Where’s your gun? Give it to me.”
“What are you planning on doing?” When Josiah heard Nate asking for Winnie’s gun, he rapidly
shouted, “Don’t do anything stupid, Nate! I’m warning you!”
“Relax. I’m not going to hurt you two. After all, we’re in the same boat right now. Or are you asking her
to shoot at them with her left hand?”
Winnie furrowed her eyebrows and pointed her gun at Nate’s head in response. “There are more below
the seat. Grab them yourself.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWithout further hesitation, Nate bent over and withdrew two guns from underneath the seat.
After he grabbed one that felt handy to him, he poked half of his body out the window and fired a few
rounds. Surprisingly, one of the shots busted a tire on one of the cars.
The car pursuing them was moving at high speed. Therefore, when one of its tires suddenly exploded,
the vehicle started to swerve.
The other car behind it couldn’t decrease its speed in time, so both cars ended up colliding with each
other.
That bought Josiah some precious time. After he drove at top speed for five minutes, he and the others
finally arrived below the tallest building in the city.
They heard the sounds of a helicopter passing by above them even before they parked the car. When
the vehicle finally halted, Nate instantly sprinted into the building.
He was worried Yulissa would leave in the helicopter, which would make it difficult for him to find her
again in the future.
Josiah and Winnie couldn’t leave right away because Rachel was still unconscious inside the car.
Attempting to move Rachel onto his back, Josiah said to Winnie, “Watch out for your hand. I don’t need
your help.”
“Hurry up!” Winnie glanced backward. “Harold’s car is here. They’ll catch up to us soon.”
Of course, he wanted to move quickly. However, the more he panicked, the clumsier he became.
Rachel’s shirt was accidentally stuck when he tried moving her.
In the end, he needed Winnie’s help to shift Rachel onto his back successfully.
To their surprise, the moment they exited the car, Josiah was shot in the calf by Harold.
Consequently, Josiah staggered and almost collapsed on the ground with Rachel.
Winnie rushed to his side to help him up. “Can you still walk?”
He gritted his teeth. “I have to, even if I can’t. Let’s go!”
Nodding, she replied, “I’ll cover you.”
Just as she finished speaking, a heavy object smashed into the roof of their car, causing a loud bang
as a result.
Reflexively, Winnie turned to look at what it was and became utterly stunned.
Josiah wanted to urge her to leave, but he also lost his voice the second he saw who had landed on
the car’s roof.
It was none other than Christopher.
Blood spilled down the sides of the roof for a few seconds before Winnie returned to her senses and
approached him.
“C-Christoph…” She was so bewildered that she couldn’t utter his name in full. “How—What—W-Who
did this to you?”
“X-Xavier…” Blood and tears filled his eyes as he gazed at her. Sadly, before he could complete his
sentence, the grim reaper took him away.
Winnie wanted to send him to the hospital, but Harold and his men were about to reach her.
Josiah snapped back to reality faster than she did and yelled, “We need to go, Winnie! Christopher’s
gone! Let’s go!”
Beads of tears slipped out of her eyes as her mind went blank.
“Let’s go, Winnie! I’m injured, and I still need to carry Rachel! I can’t move without you! Come on!”
She was still a little stunned. What’s going on? Christopher had only recently returned from the brink of
death. How can he…
Despite still being in a daze, she escorted Josiah into the building and all the way to the rooftop, though
she couldn’t recall even a second of that journey.
