Loving Mom 218
Chapter 218
Uriah spoke with quiet implication. “You didn’t answer the call. How can you be so sure it wasn’t something
important?”
Nate frowned. “You stubborn old man, we're here for treatment, not to exchange pleasantries.”
Uriah lifted his eyelids slowly. “Treatment for what? Stupidity? Foolishness? Or maybe looking for illness where
there is none?”
Kelly's eyelashes trembled, her breathing quickening for no apparent reason.
Uriah seemed to sense something and turned his gaze toward her.
“Miss, your breathing’s shallow, heart rate’s fast... you seem nervous.”
Kelly forced a smile. “I... | just feel a little stuffy. A bit unwell.”
Uriah raised his reading glasses slightly, studying her from head to toe.
“Unwell, huh? You've got a rosy complexion and good energy. Doesn't look tolike anything's wrong.”

He looked back and forth between the three of them, confusion flickering in his eyes.
“So... which one of you is the patient?”
“You can’t even tell who's got the terminal illness?” Nate looked at him skeptically. “Are you sure you're not just a
quack?”
Uriah shot him a glance. “You've got excessive liver fire, quick temper, chronic halitosis, constipation-loose,
unformed stools. You smoke, drink, stay up late-zero self-control. Your kidneys are depleted.”
He paused for effect, then added in an even tone, “Currently, you have mild sexual dysfunction. If not treated
promptly, it may... impact your male performance. | suggest you start treatment soon. Otherwise, your wife's
future happiness might not be looking too bright.”
Nate was a handsyoung man, no doubt. Maybe not as refined as Carter, but he had that charmingly roguish
edge. In their social circle, he was popular with the heiresses.
Before he met Kelly, Nate changed girlfriends more often than shirts. But ever since her, he hadn’t been with
anyone else. Not
one.
Countless women had thrown themselves at him, but none could sway him.
Even though Kelly had never accepted his advances, the moment anyone dared to slight her, Nate would be the
first to step in
and settle the score.
Her friends all envied her-having someone so loyal, so devoted, standing guard at her side.
Her vanity had been well fed.
Nate cfrom a good family and was good-looking too. If things with Carter didn’t work out, he'd always
seemed like a solid backup plan.
Unlike Carter, Nate never weighed pros and cons.
Besides, he wasn’t married, didn’t have kids.
Controlling someone like him was far easier than dealing with Carter.
But Kelly had never imagined-never even considered that Nate might have a condition.
She instinctively took a small step back. Her eyes met his, a flicker of something dark flashing across them-
shock, discomfort, a trace of disgust she couldn't quite conceal.

Chapter 218
Could it be that all this persistence, all these years of chasing her, wasn’t love?
Was it because no other debutante wanted him once word of his condition spread? Was she... the fallback?
It made a certain kind of sense.
What normal man would go that long without a single girlfriend?
Maybe... maybe he hadn't been capable for a while now.
The thought spun around and around in her head.
Suddenly, Kelly realized-she could no longer look at Nate the sway.
Nate's face flushed crimson. He pointed at Uriah, shouting, “You're nothing but a fraud! Utter nonsense!”
But Uriah remained calm, even serene. “Whether I'm talking nonsense or not... well, Heaven knows it, you know
it, and I know
ie.”
Just then, the previously silent Carter spoke for the first time.
“Sir, why don’t you take a look atinstead? Tell me, what's wrong with me?”
