Chapter 708:
The injury on his arm wasn’t from the repair work, but rather from a moment of anxiety when he worried that
Allison might not be able to escape the lab. In a split-second decision, he had yanked at swires, triggering a
short circuit in the electrical box, which caused sparks and left him with burns.
Amya had reassured him that Allison was safe, but hearing the gossip made him uneasy. He couldn't shake the
feeling that her situation was still dangerous.
However, his position left him with little room to inquire further. He had to find a way to return to the office once
more.
As he glanced down at the screw in his hand — just removed from the air conditioner — he silently hoped that
the unit would break down again soon.
Meanwhile, in the second basement level, Allison had finished sorting through the pile of documents. With quiet
confidence, she presented them to Verruckt. “Is there anything else you needto do, Mr. Shaw?” she asked,
her tone polite but pleased. It looked like she was clearly enjoying her role.

Jareth, standing nearby, felt a headache brewing.
The lab’s discarded materials were limited, and it seemed questionable to allow her to handle those important
documents. As Jareth mulled over this, Verruckt, with his characteristic indifference, spoke. “There's nothing
more for you to do. You can go back.”
Allison blinked, taken aback for a moment. Then, with a feigned air of embarrassment, she added, “Can | come
back to work tomorrow? | haven't received my monthly salary yet.”
Verruckt let out a quiet “Hmm,” and didn’t even raise his head. Allison beamed at the nonchalant response.
“Thank you, Mr. Shaw. I'll head out now.”
With that, she left the office, her cheerful steps unmistakable. She greeted nearly everyone on her way out,
radiating a sense of accomplishment.
Inside the office, Jareth watched her retreating figure, frowning. “Mr. Shaw, if she really is the assassin, aren't
you just giving the gaway?”
Verruckt’s gaze followed Allison until she disappeared into the elevator. “Have someone follow her,” he said
coldly. “Today's incident had to have been a team effort. If she’s the one we're after, she’ll reach out to her
partners. If it was her, we'll catch them all in one fell swoop.”
He turned back to Jareth. “Also, with the entire place locked down, keep searching for the assassin. The target is
injured and can’t slip away easily.”
Jareth nodded in agreement. “Understood. I'll expedite the internal investigation.”
Allison swiftly slipped into her own
attire, her every movement measured
and deliberate. She knew pie
