Chapter 1022:

“Alright, it’s just a scratch,” Brook said dismissively. He looked up, slowly locking eyes with Kellan.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of woman you decide to sleep with,” he said, his voice steady and cold. “But once

you're at a certain age, you need to settle down and get married.”

Brook cast a pointed glance at Allison, his words deliberate and sharp. “Naturally, one must marry someone from

a similar background.” His concern for the Lloyd family’s reputation was obvious.

Though he’d recently been abroad, he was fully aware of the rumors surrounding Ontdale. It was said that Kellan

had fallen for a divorced woman, an orphan at that. Brook was certain that his son couldn't possibly feel

anything genuine for her. It had to be a temporary infatuation.

“That's your rule, and it has nothing to do with me,” Kellan responded coldly, dismissing Brook's words with a

wave.

Hoyt, standing behind Brook, snorted in indignation. “Kellan, everything you have, everything you've achieved, is

because of the Lloyd family. Who do you think you are to speak like this? Ungrateful brat!”

Kellan shot him a contemptuous look, his voice low and mocking. “Do you want another cut across your face?”

Hoyt flared up, enraged. “Don’t get so cocky!” He gritted his teeth, his body aching as the pain from the knife

wound still throbbed. He could feel it bleeding without even looking.

“Dad, you see that? He—" Hoyt attempted to whine, but Brook cut him off with a raised hand.

“Family matters can wait. Don’t make a scene here.” Brook's tone was firm, the warning clear.

Hoyt, seething, reluctantly nodded. “I understand.”

Turning his attention back to Allison, Brook addressed her directly. “You must be Ms. Clarke?” His voice was laced

with uncertainty, but his eyes held a firm certainty. “I've heard you were married before. Do you really think

you're worthy of the Lloyd family?”

Brook's words hung in the air like an oppressive weight, pressing down on everyone. Though he maintained a

calm exterior, it was crystal clear that he intended to humiliate Allison.

An ordinary person would have crumbled, either retreating in shor breaking down in tears.

But Allison stood firm, her face displaying no sign of fear or hesitation. “Of course, Kellan and | are perfect for

each other,” she said with a warm smile, her grip on Kellan’s hand unwavering.

Her confidence and fearlessness only served to infuriate Brook further, who dismissed it as nothing more than a

facade. He believed she was merely putting on a brave face to withstand his words.

“Enough,” Brook snapped, his patience wearing thin. “I don’t care what games you young people play, but

marriage is a serious matter.”
