Chapter 45 Don't Want to be Useless After Eric left, I sent a message to Levi Swift. "When are you coming back, you brat?" Levi didn't reply until the middle of the night. "Not sure yet. Things are crazy busy right now. I'll let you know as soon as I have a date!" I sent back a sticker in response, turned off my phone, and fell asleep.
Before Levi returned, I got a call from my best friend, Natasha Jones.
"Wow, so you're getting a divorce and didn't even tell me? We're hitting Phantom Bar tonight. Drinks are on me! Let's celebrate you finally ditching Jeremiah, that trash of a man, and breaking free of your love-blind self!" Natasha was my childhood friend, a sharp and independent powerhouse of a woman.

She was constantly busy traveling for work. Jeremiah hated her fiery personality, so he toldto stay away from her.
Like an idiot, I listened to him in my past life. Unless Natasha reached out to me, I wouldn't contact her, and eventually, we fell out of touch. Looking back now, I wish I could slap myself.
I agreed immediately, "Deal! We drink until we drop tonight!" We met outside the bar, and the moment I saw her, I lunged forward and hugged her. "Natasha, I missed you so much!" Natasha pushedaway with a look of disdain. "Keep it together!" Though she said that, she still grabbed my hand and draggedinside, where she ordered an endless stream of drinks.
While drinking, she cursed, "I've been telling you forever that Jeremiah was trash. Thank God you woke up in tand didn't waste your entire life on him." She threw an arm around my shoulder and patted her chest. "From now on, I'll take care of you!" I downed my drink in one gulp before replying, "No thanks. I don't want to be a useless bum anymore." We locked eyes, then burst out laughing. Raising our glasses, we toasted to the bright futures ahead of us. Natasha had ordered strong drinks, and it didn't take long before my head was spinning. Everything in front ofseemed to blur together. Clinging to the last shred of sobriety, I stumbled out of the bathroom, only to smack right into a wall. It was a hard and warm wall.
A hand caughtaround the waist, and I instinctively leaned into the "wall", rubbing against it and sighing in comfort.
Then, I heard a familiar voice. "How much did you drink? Who are you here with?" Why was the wall talking? Dazed, I tilted my head back and saw a face so stunning it could rival any celebrity. He had sharp features that looked perfectly chiseled. Oh, it wasn't a wall. It was a ridiculously handsguy.
I giggled like a fool and reached out to touch his face. "You're so good-looking. Hey, handsome, want to grab a drink with me?" I was a sucker for a pretty face. No way I was letting this one slip through my fingers.

The guy's lips moved as if he were saying something, but couldn't hear a word. His voice just seemed annoying, so I leaned in and bit him. He froze immediately, his whole body going stiff.
I stuck out my tongue and gave the spot a little lick, then smiled. “Youn taste sweet You smell like apples. Were you drinking cider just now?" He let out a low hum like he was embarrassed.
Then, he took a deep breath, scoopedup bridal-style, and said, "You're drunk. I'll take you home."
I couldn't remember how I got home.
All I knew was that as soon as my body hit the bed I grabbed onto his sleeve and yanked him down with me. He lost his balance and landed on top of me, his dark eyes staring straight into mine, burning with an intensity that felt almost scorching.
