Chapter 149 Crafting Another Persona Again I tried hard to gather tears in my eyes. Though I didn't want to admit it, I was clearly mimicking Elsa right now. After all, in the eyes of a man like Jeremiah, only fragility would stir his desire to protect.
"If you're the one behind all this, then it'd prove you truly care about me. I definitely don't want a divorce. Building a business isn't my goal. I just don't want to be ignored by you anymore." As soon as the words left my mouth, Jeremiah quickly walked over and wiped away my tears.
I turned away from his hand. "If you didn't do any of this, then I can be sure there's no place forin your heart anymore." With that, I turned to leave.
Jeremiah immediately grabbed my wrist, a smile spreading across his face. "No, that's not it! How could I not care about you? It's been so long since I've seen you cry. When you do, I feel like I'm the villain." His face twisted into a sleazy grin, making my stomach churn.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtI scoffed inwardly. Sure enough, Jeremiah would fall for this act every time.
He never loved me, nor Elsa. He only truly loved himself and his inflated sense of male superiority. Any woman with a bit of beauty would immediately trigger his sentimental and protective nature the moment she showed her fragility.
I jerked my wrist out of his grasp, lowering my head intentionally to avoid looking at him. "I just want to know if you really care about me." I expected to be at an impasse with Jeremiah for a while, but just then, there was a knock on the office door. Before Jeremiah could even respond, a young woman suddenly pushed the door open, her face full of panic.
"Mr. Cornell! It's bad! Ms. Elsa has fainted!" She noticedin the room only after speaking, and her face was drained of color.
But Jeremiah was too frantic to care about her mistake. The tenderness that had just appeared on his face was instantly replaced with urgency.
Jeremiah hurriedly walked toward the door, but he suddenly turned to look atjust as he reached it. "Jae, wait here for me. Elsa's health isn't good. I..." I waved my hand with a composed smile. "It's fine. I understand. Go ahead and take care of her." Upon seeing my graciousness, a hint of satisfaction flashed in Jeremiah's eyes before he turned and left the office with the young woman.
I quickly shut the door tightly behind them. I let my expression return to its indifferent state with a relaxed shrug.
I really should thank Elsa for this time. Without her, who knew how much longer I would've had to put on this nauseating act until I found an excuse to get him out of the office? I walked straight to Jeremiah's computer after shaking off the thought.
As expected, it was locked. I tried entering his and Elsa's birthdaysbut failed each time. There was only one attempt left, and I'd have to wait another ten minutes if I failed again.
en Though Elsa could easily keep Jeremiah occupied for half an hour, just being here for another second made my stomach turn.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter a brief moment of indecision, I tried entering the date of our wedding anniversary.
The computer was unlocked, and I wave froze for a second, feeling a wave of disgust wash over me. Even at this time, Jeremiah still couldn't resist playing the role of a deeply O emotional man. He kept his computer password as our wedding anniversary yet was busy flirting with his sister-in-law.
I quickly began searching through
his files. Thanks to my knowledge of Jeremiah, eventually found his m domestic financial records and copied everything to a USB drive. I then restored everything in the office to its original state.
Just as I was about to leave, I opened the door and found myself face-to-face with Jeremiah and the recently revived" Elsa. Both of them were tugging at each other by the door.
