Nelly’s POV.

Kex held my hands, his touch firm and grounding. I could feel my heart rate slowing,

becoming more even.

“Let's see what the villagers have to offer,” he said, his voice calm and reassuring. | nodded, not trusting

myself to speak.

Aisha, mumbled something about chilling out, and | forced a smile. With that, we headed outside, my

heart beating a frantic tattoo. | knew one thing for sure: if the villagers were out here, it could only mean

trouble. Nothing good ever cfrom their interference.

When we stepped outside, the air was thick with tension. The shouts of the villagers grew louder, their

words clear now.

“We do not want a Luna without a wolf! Our Alpha needs a Luna with a wolf!” they chanted. My heart

sank, my mind racing.

“How did they know about my wolf situation?” | blurted out the question, my gaze darting between Kex and

Aisha. They looked as surprised as | felt.

“I don’t know,” Kex said, shaking his head. “This doesn’t make sense.”

Aisha’s eyes were wide, her brow furrowed in confusion.

“There's something we're missing here,” she said, her voice tinged with suspicion,

Kex held my hand, our fingers tightly interlaced. He raised his other hand, gesturing for the crowd to be quiet.

“All hail Alpha,” they chanted, their voices ringing in my ears. Kex gave them a curt nod, his expression.

unreadable.

“What's the problem?” he asked, his voice firm. A man who looked like the crowd's leader stepped forward, his

eyes downcast.

“My lord,” he said, his voice trembling. “It is forbidden for a lady without a wolf to be our Luna.”

“Hmmm,” Kex hummed, his jaw tensing.

“My lord, there's no difference between Lady Nelly and a human. That's why we need you to give us

another Luna.

The words were like knives, slicing through my heart. | clamped my hand over my mouth, stifling the

sob that threatened to escape. | couldn't believe the people could be so heartless, so cruel. Barely

twenty four hours | lost my wolf and they were demanding a new Luna. How selfish.

| ran, my feet carryingas fast as they could. | stumbled, tears.blurring my vision. | couldn’t breathe,

couldn’t think. My wolf was gone, and the people wanted to replace me.

upside down, and | didn’t know how to put it right again. The last word | heard was one of them calling

screamed, a primal, guttural sound that echoed through the room.

“Why?” | cried, my voice raw. “Moon Goddess, why?” My hands beat against the floor, my fists balled in anger

and grief. “Where's Aria?”

| asked, my words a desperate plea to the heavens. The silence was deafening, the emptiness

*overwhelming. | curled into a ball, sobbing uncontrollably.

The door to my room burst open and Aisha and Kex entered. | lay frozen, unable to move. Kex knelt beside me,

gently wiping my tears away. | sniffed, my head pounding, my stomach roiling.

“Let’s get you up,” Kex said, his voice soft. He helpedsit up, and the room spun. | clamped a hand over my

| turned on the faucet, cupping the cool water in my hands and splashing it on my face.

“Eww, what's that?” Aisha asked, pointing at the greenish juice vomit that was still on the faucet. | shrugged,

utterly confused.

“It’s the juice Aurora gaveearlier,” | mumbled, my mind still fuzzy. Aisha’s eyes widened in alarm.

“Aurora?” she asked, her voice rising in pitch. | nodded, my head still spinning. “What did she say it was?” Aisha

demanded, her voice urgent.

“I don’t know,” | said, my voice barely above a whisper, as | put on the faucet to flush my vomit.

“She just gave it toand said it would makefeel better.” Aisha’s jaw dropped.

“What?” she asked, her eyes wide. “When did you take it?” | shrugged, trying to play it off as no big deal.

“A few minutes before | found out my wolf was missing.” | trailed off, watching Aisha’s face. She leaned in close

to Kex and whispered something in his ear. | felt left out, my arms crossed over my chest.

“Hey,” | said, my voice tinged with frustration, waving my hand in their faces.

Aisha and Kex just stared at me, their expressions unreadable.

“Never mind,” they said in unison, their voices oddly calm.

“What?” | cried, frustration and anger rising within me. “You can’t just askall these questions and then not

tellwhat's going on. I'm the one who's suffering here!” | yelled, my voice cracking. Kex gently took my hands

in his.

“I know you're upset, but please just csit down with us,” he said, his voice gentle.

“Do you

feel okay?” he asked, his voice soft. | nodded, the room spinning a little.

“All | want are answers,” | retorted, my frustration building again. Kex nodded, his expression grave.

“I promise you, I'll tell you everything,” he said. “But first, promiseyou won't get mad.” | swallowed hard, my

heart pounding. MARIER

“I promise,” | said, my voice trembling. Kex looked over at Aisha, who was staring at me.

| felt a surge of impatience, my skin prickling with unease.

“Just tellwhat's going on,” | demanded, my voice cracking. Kex hesitated, glancing at Aisha again.

“Well,” he began, “Aisha feels like Aurora might be the reason why your wolf went missing.” | felt like the

floor had dropped out from under me.

“What?” | exclaimed, my eyes wide. “That's impossible. She would never do that.”

Kex placed a hand on my arm. “We don’t know that for sure,” he said, his voice soothing. “But then that

was the last thing you took and the juice? It doesn’t make sense.”

| sat there, my mind whirling. Maybe they were right. After all, it was the first t| had seen or tasted the juice,

and suddenly my wolf went missing. | tried to piece the puzzle together, but the more | tried to figure it out, the

more my headache.

“What do we do?” | was confused. They was silent for a while and Kex was just carressing his jaw..

Aisha cleared her throat, getting our attention.

“I have an idea,” she said with a sly smile.

“What is it?” | asked my voice laced with curiosity.
