Grace had now been thrown into another car.
Lucian tied a piece of black cloth over her eyes as he threatened her, "Ms. Lambert, it would be best for you to
cooperate. You're just going to get yourself hurt if you resist."
Grace didn't move and let the cloth cover her eyes. She could tell the car had changed directions, and the
people in the car had been careful not to talk the whole time.
These people seemed more professional than the ones who had cafter her in the past.
After driving for an hour, they finally stopped. One of them hoisted her over his shoulder. After walking for quite
sdistance, she was thrown to the ground. As the door closed shut, the world becsilent.
Grace's hands were tied behind her back, so she could only try to get up first. Using a fixed point for support, she
managed to get up and then rubbed the blindfold off her face.
There was no light around her aside from a faint beam coming through the small window at the top. It was clear
the kidnappers were still guarding outside.
Her gaze scanned her surroundings. But because of the ropes tied around her legs, she couldn't move very well
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtand almost tripped on a stone.
She quickly changed directions and moved her hands against the stone back and forth, hoping the rope could
snap.
The kidnappers were surprisingly patient, clearly waiting for someone's order. Since they hadn't received a call,
they didn't make any move. So, she had to make the most of this tto escape.
Just as the rope on her hands loosened, Grace quickly bent down to loosen the ones on her legs and then stood
under the small window. The window was high up, about nine feet off the ground. Besides sstones, the room
was bare. There was nothing that could help her reach the window.
She could only pick the sharpest stone in the pile. Then, she found two broken sticks in the corner. She used the
ropes to tie the sticks and the stone together to make a simple weapon. She gave it a few swings to test it, and it
seemed like it could do sdamage.
Grace stood at the back of the door, quietly waiting for the kidnappers to cin. However, there were still no
footsteps coming from outside even after she waited for an hour.
What she didn't know was that the kidnappers were also becoming impatient and had started to complain.
"What does that woman want to do anyway? She's not even giving us the next instruction," one of the men
mumbled.
With a cigarette in his hand, Lucian let out a scoff. "Relax, she's still discussing things. Why are you in such a
rush? We'll take the money and disappear."
"| just don't get it. What's there to discuss when dealing with a woman?
"If she wants the woman dead, we'll just strangle her ourselves. And if she wants her ruined, we can handle that
ourselves too. What exactly is so complicated about it?"
Lucian flicked the ashes from his fingertips, his gaze full of sarcasm.
"Truly smart people don't really care about a person's life. Human lives mean nothing to them. What they, really
want is to play with other people's fates while getting the thing they're after. They're not like@s; we're just the
muscle." s
As Lucian finished his words, everyone else gulped nervously.
One of them turned his head and asked, "Lucian, you seem like you know a lot about how these rich people
think. Wasn't your family also véry rich bérore? | remember your family opened a casino." s
Lucian paused for a moment before flicking ashes from his fingertips again.
"It's nothing. I've just seen enough to
know how things work." Just as he finished speaking, he quickly looked back to his phone as he were waiting for
someone's call s
Joanne and Yancey finally met up. They met up in a very discreet location, and there were only the two of them
present. The place was dimly lit, adding to the secrecy.
After Joanne sat down, she directly asked, "Mr. Henderson, | assyou've got what it takes to draw Grace's
boyfriend out?"
