Chapter 407: Secret Identity

Astrid's POV

Killian halted mid-step, his shoulders stiffening as he turned to face me. His brow knitted together, the golden

hue of his eyes darkening with unease.

"What do you mean?" he asked, his voice low, guarded.

| hesitated for just a heartbeat before the words poured out, tumbling over each other in a rush.

"Alpha Cedric," | said, my voice tight with urgency. "At the council meeting-he stood up, questioning us, doubting

our leadership, our decisions."

Killian's brows pinched together as he processed my words.

"What if... what if it wasn't just him being confrontational? What if it was

intentional? Designed to sow distrust, to divide us?" | asked him

Killian's gaze sharpened, his eyes narrowing as he digested my words. A flicker of understanding crossed his

face, followed by something colder, harder.

Slowly, he nodded. "I've been thinking the sthing," he admitted, his tone heavy with thought.

"When Andros suggested there could be a traitor, Cedric was the first person who cto mind. His words

earlier—they weren't just challenges. They were aimed to make everyone question us, to stir doubt. And his

timing..." He shook his head, his jaw clenching. "It's like he's trying to turn the others against us."

"I couldn't think of anyone aside from him. So far, he's the only one who has outright contradicted us. He is the

most suspicious." | murmured, my thoughts spinning.

The puzzle pieces were beginning to align, and they pointed in a damning direction, but doubt gnawed at the

edges of my certainty.

"Don't worry, if he is the traitor, | won't be easy on him. He will be publicly punished to set as a warning to the

others," Killian answered sternly.

| swallowed hard, forcing myself to voice it. "But what if we're wrong, Killian?" | asked, my voice quieter now,

tinged with hesitation.

"What if he's innocent? We can't just suspect him because of the words he had said in the council meeting. We

can't afford to act on assumptions. If we accuse him without proof, we'll prove his point-that our judgment is

flawed. And if he's loyal..." | trailed off, the weight of that possibility pressing down on me.

Killian's expression darkened, his lips pressing into a thin line. For a moment, the only sound was the faint rustle

of leaves outside.

Then he nodded, his movements slow, deliberate. "You're right," he said finally. "We can't act on suspicion alone.

If we're wrong, accusing him will do more harm than good. But if we're right..." His voice faltered, and he inhaled

sharply, his jaw tightening. "If we're right, we can't let it slide."

| exhaled slowly, my heart pounding

as | tried to steady myself. "We need proof," | said firmly, meeting his gaze. “If he's working with the rogue king,

there has to be

evidence-letters, meetings, vel

something. We just have to find it."

Killian's eyes locked onto mine, the determination in them unwavering. "Then we'll find it," he said, his voice

steady and resolute. "I will send someone to conduct an

investigation on him. He w 2% Ice

know that he is being followed, he wouldn't even know that we are

suspicious of him."

I nodded, though the unease in my chest refused to dissipate. "You should send the best man to investigate. We

need to find the truth as soon as possible."

Killian's jaw flexed as he nodded. "I'll assign Ryder to this," he said decisively. "He's discreet and thorough. If

Cedric is hiding something, Ryder will find it."

The mention of Ryder brought a flicker of reassurance, but the knot in my stomach remained tight.

"We can't afford any missteps," | reminded him, my voice low but firm. "The longer this drags on, the more

damage Cedric-or whoever the traitor is-can do."

Killian's golden eyes darkened. "I know," he said, his voice sharp with determination. "Ryder will report to me

directly. No one else."

| bit my lip, thinking back to Cedric's

brazen acons during the

council meeting. Was he acting on the Rogue King's orders or is he just an opportunist, taking his chance to win

the hearts of everybody and convince them to be their leader?

But if he wasn't the traitor, then who else could it be?

The rogue king's reach was deeper than we'd anticipated, and the thought of someone close to us feeding him

information sent a chill down my spine.

Killian and | shared a gaze as soon as we heard the warrior's words.

What information could they have about the rogue king? Killian and | have been trying to find sclues about

the rogue king's past, or his true identity, but we never found anything.

Even Andros who had worked and made a deal with him, has no idea about his identity.
