“But I-“Jillian was extremely troubled.

“No more buts, Jillian. | was thinking of your welfare when | suggested you take up martial arts. Just imagine, if

you knew sself-defense moves, wouldn't it be harder for others to bully you? Besides, | can’t always be

there to protect you. What if something happens to you one day and I'm not around? Who will look after you and

your mother then?” Madelyn patiently persuaded.

Jillian was somewhat convinced after hearing her out. After all, she had no desire to cause any further trouble for

Madelyn.

In the end, she nodded and agreed to it.

Twenty minutes later, the pair arrived at the combat training center.

Madelyn didn’t directly take her to sign up, thinking it would be better to first let Jillian see the classes she was

taking.

After all, when it cto martial arts, one’s physical condition had to be taken into account. If Jillian could cope,

she could always sign up later.

Hence, Madelyn took her to kickboxing class first.

Skylar was pleased to see Madelyn as it had been quite a while since she came.

He stepped forward and gave her a pat on the shoulder. “Madelyn, have you been slacking off at hthese

past few days?”

“No way. | practice regularly,” Madelyn said earnestly.

Then, she chuckled, pointing toward Jillian as she introduced, “Oh, by the way, Coach Campbell, this is my

classmate, Jillian. Jillian, this is Skylar.”

Following Madelyn'’s introduction, Jillian nodded at Skylar. “Hello, Coach Campbell.”

Skylar looked at Jillian, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. “Well, well,” he said, “birds of a feather do flock

together. You're a beauty, and so is your friend.”

Upon hearing this, both Madelyn and Jillian burst into laughter.

“All right, you two better hurry and change, class is about to start.”

“Okay.”

In a short while, both of them had changed into the proper attire.

Skylar blew a whistle, and everyone promptly gathered to commence training.

During this particular lesson, Madelyn was incredibly dedicated as she was almost completely absorbed in her

training.

At first, Skylar was quite pleased. However, after realizing that Madelyn was still training half an hour later. he

inevitably had sreservations.

“Madelyn, why don’t you take a break?” Skylar suggested. “Training is important, but you can’t be too harsh on

yourself. Skill takes tto develop, you can’t rush it.”

Madelyn nodded. “I understand.”

However, she inwardly protested, “I have to hurry!”

Since Sebastian was insistent on going abroad, Madelyn had made up her mind to tag along. She couldn't just

stand by and watch him act recklessly.

Given the circumstances, it was crucial that master her kickboxing skills to ensure she wouldn't beca

burden to him during the trip.

With this in mind, Madelyn persisted in her training.

Initially, Jillian thought that kickboxing was nothing more than fancy but impractical moves. However, to her

surprise, she found the training incredibly challenging! She couldn’t help but admire Madelyn for her dedication.

She couldn't help but mutter, “Madelyn, do you know? Sometimes | think, if you were a man, | might have

insisted on marrying no one but you.”

“Hahaha,” Madelyn laughed heartily at that. She teased, “What a shame, I'm already taken. Jillian, | advise you

to give up onas soon as possible. There's no future for us.”

Jillian responded with a chuckle. “Such a queen.”

After kickboxing class ended, Madelyn brought Jillian to check out the martial arts classes.

Maxton was surprisingly early that day.

Upon seeing Madelyn, he lifted his brows in surprise. “Long tno see.”

“Yes... I've been busy these past few days, I'm sorry,” Madelyn apologized.

“No need for apologies, you've already applied for leave,” Maxton said coldly.

At that, Madelyn shrugged, feeling that the conversation was utterly pointless.

She then asked, “By the way, Coach Wendel, could you possibly teachsomething new today, perhaps a more

advanced technique? Or maybe there's a clever trick that could quickly take down a group of opponents?”

“Pepper spray,” Maxton said nonchalantly.

What?

Madelyn was rendered speechless, thinking to herself, What on earth is this?

After cracking a lighthearted joke, Maxton finally turned serious and asked, “Why do you want to learn such a

powerful technique?”

“I...,” Madelyn stammered, unable to admit that she was gearing up for a fight.

With no other option, she quickly made up a story. “I heard that the school will be organizing a boot camp for the

students in a while. I'm just trying to get a head start on physical conditioning. Also, there will be virtual

gunfights, and I'm not about to let myself get defeated casily. So, if you have any techniques that can help me

win in one move, Coach Wendel, you must teach me!”

Madelyn spoke with such vivid detail that she almost convinced herself.

Jillian was baffled as she listened. Since when had the school mentioned anything about organizing a boot camp?

At that moment, a hint of a smirk played at the corners of Maxton’s mouth, seemingly dismissive. “All this for

boot camp? Do you really need to take it so seriously?”

“Of course | do!” Madelyn stated earnestly. “And from what I've heard, the top three performers in the boot camp

will get a reward.”

“Is that so?” Maxton casually raised an eyebrow.

“Mm-hmm,” Madelyn affirmed, looking at him with certainty.

Fine. Given the circumstances, Maxton had no choice but to agree.”

He simply cautioned, “I must warn you in advance, there are techniques, but they're somewhat challenging.”

Madelyn couldn't help but clap her hands in excitement at that, exclaiming, “That's fantastic!”

Then, with a determined voice, she said, “Coach Wendel, rest assured, as long as you're willing to teach me, no

matter how great the difficulty, I'll learn!”

Madelyn was pumped up as she spoke.

Maxton also cheered up seeing her brimming with such vitality.

However, he cautioned, “Relying on those few moves you've practiced might not be sufficient.”

“What?” Madelyn was taken aback. “What do | need to do in order for it to be sufficient?”

Maxton asked, “How good are you at shooting?”

Madelyn had no idea how good she was since she had never tried.

Shaking her head, she innocently said, “I have no idea. I've never tried shooting before. Are you planning to

teach me?”

Upon hearing those words, a charming curve formed at the corner of Maxton’s lips. “If you're willing,” he said,

“nothing is impossible.”
