Chapter 477

Faith was silent for a long time after my words. I thought she didn’t want to respond, but to my surprise, I heard her

sob.

I panicked instantly. It was the first time Faith had cried in front of me. Even when she begged me to give Neil

another chance, she hadn’t wept like this.

“Irene, we, the Whitmores, owe you an apology, I’ve always felt I was responsible for you wasting the best five

years of your life. And that child, who should have been born safely and grown up happily under our watch, was lost

because of Neil’s irresponsibility. That led to the child not having the chance to be part of our family. How can I

accept that?” Faith’s tears started to flow as she spoke, she took a tissue and gently wiped the corners of her eyes.

I didn’t know how to respond. I had already moved on, but Faith was still immersed in the pain and regret of that

time.

“Faith, those things happened a long time ago. Now he has Hiram, and that’s pretty good. Some things are just

fate, and we can’t force them.” After a while, I finally managed to utter these words. I knew what was bothering

Faith because Neil had told me, but I had never seen Faith lose control of her emotions.

She began to cry softly, making me feel incredibly sad and my eyes began to well up.

After a few minutes, Faith looked up at me again and said, “Irene, in my heart, you’re still my daughter-in-law. I

know you’re with Russel now, but I feel a connection with you, and I think you’re the best match for Neil!”

It had been a long time since Neil and I divorced, but Faith still considered me her daughter-in-law. I didn’t know

whether to be moved or embarrassed.

“Faith, Neil now has Karina and Hiram. It’s not appropriate to talk about these things anymore. I just hope you’re

well.” I found that apart from these words, I had no other way

to comfort Faith.

I was even afraid that if I said the wrong thing, it would make Faith feel worse.

Faith wiped her tears, then forced a smile, “Alright, I understand. I recently made a trip to Heavenly Mountain to

light a candle for that child and made a wish for his peaceful passing. The time to fulfill that wish is nearing. If you

have time, would you accompany me?”

This surprised me. I usually didn’t believe in these things.

But Faith had made a wish on behalf of the child I lost, showing how much she loved and cared for that child.

The more she behaved like this, the more upset I felt.

“Irene, please accompany me. Maybe it will help me let go of my regrets.” Seeing that I was silent, Faith pleaded

with me again.

Looking at her almost begging eyes, I couldn’t refuse. Besides, it was a wish made for the sake of my first child.

How could I be indifferent?

“Alright, when?” I asked.

“I’ll consult with the priest and notify you a few days in advance. Is that okay?” Faith’s face still had tear stains, but

she managed a slight smile.

I nodded in agreement.

Faith sighed in relief. The conversation became much lighter after that, revolving around daily life. She loved to talk

about Hiram, but each time she would observe my reaction. If she felt I didn’t like the topic, she would change it.

Finally, the conversation shifted to Serena and Brandon.

She asked me for a few photos of them and praised them so much that I felt quite proud.

Suddenly, Faith’s phone rang. After a brief exchange, she asked, “Irene, can I borrow your car? I need to pick

something up.”

“Are you driving?” I was surprised.

“Yes, it’s not far. I’ll go get it, and you wait for me here.” Faith nodded.

I couldn’t refuse, so I handed Faith the car keys.

I sat alone, sipping coffee and admiring the flowers and plants around me. It was a rare moment of relaxation in

these days. I didn’t feel like going home, so I decided to wait quietly for Faith to return.

Unexpectedly, instead of Faith, Neil appeared before me. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the top, and he had

removed his tie. He looked drunk. The skin from his chest to his neck was flushed, and the smell of alcohol was

quite strong.

I was taken aback. How did he get here? And so quickly after his drinking session?

Neil’s eyes had a faint redness, giving him a slightly sickly and seductive look. He exhaled, “Let’s go. I’ll take you

home.”

“Where’s your mom?” I asked, confused.

“She drove your car home. Hiram wanted her to return.” Neil’s hands were in his pockets, and his shirt was neatly

tucked into his pants. He looked incredibly sleek and austere in his attire.

I was baffled. Faith had driven my car home to tend to her grandson without telling me. Then she sent her son, Neil,

who had drunk quite a bit, to take me home

Was this really appropriate?

I immediately refused, “That’s not necessary. I’ll take a cab home. You’ve been drinking.”

I wasn’t keen on taking a risky ride.
