With no other choice, Aubrey grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself, planning to step out
and check.
The moment she opened the door, Alpha Henry was standing outside.
His gaze flicked across her exposed collarbone, his throat bobbing slightly before he asked, “What’s
wrong?”
Aubrey studied his expression carefully. He didn’t seem to be pretending-it might really have been
an accident. Her voice was cold.
“The water stopped.”
“What? How could that be?” Henry was just as surprised. At that moment, Adelyn hurried over.

manually to pump water out...”
Her face carried an apologetic look. Aubrey shifted uncomfortably, still sticky with soap. “How do you pump it
manually?”
Adelyn coughed lightly, glancing at Alpha Henry. “Henry knows where the gauge is. Just ask him. I've got
something to handle, so I'll leave this to you...”
With that, she walked away.
If Henry didn’t understand their intentions now, he wouldn't be Henry. The gauge was in the bathroom, yes -but
not anywhere near the tub or shower. Someone had to stand there and press it constantly for the water to keep
flowing. Which meant if Aubrey wanted to finish bathing, someone had to be inside with her, helping the whole
time.
That was exactly the kind of trick his mother would cup with.
When Aubrey heard Henry's explanation, she understood Adelyn’s schimmediately. Adelyn must have
noticed the tension between them and wanted to use this as a way to break the ice,
And, conveniently, all the other servants were suddenly too “busy” to help.
Irritation prickled through her. Still, she couldn't blAdelyn. In both lifetimes, the woman had treated her with
nothing but kindness. From her, Aubrey felt a rare warmth that resembled a mother’s love.
Even so, her displeasure was written clearly across her face.
Henry let out a quiet, imperceptible sigh. His gaze turned blank. Moments later, he severed the psychic link and
lowered his head, murmuring, | found a servant to help you. She'll be here soon. Go back inside- you'll catch
cold.”
“Alright.” Aubrey didn’t argue. She turned and went back into the bathroom, shutting the door firmly. Even
through the barrier, she could sense the Alpha’s aura stiffen. He was unhappy, clearly-but he swallowed his
anger and kept it contained.
Five minutes later, an omega servant knocked.

When Aubrey opened the door, Henry was gone. She didn’t think much of it and simply led the
servant in to help pump the gauge.
After finishing her bath, Aubrey lay down. The day’s events still weighed heavily on her. She didn’t
want to admit it, but Henry’s actions had shaken her-scattering many of the dark shadows in her
heart.
Then there was the inhibitor for the Kajit virus. It needed improvement. The side effects were far
too severe. Even she had nearly lost control of her emotions. Such an unstable inhibitor couldn’t
possibly be used on ordinary wolves-who knew what kind of disasters it would cause.
Lost in thought, Aubrey drifted into sleep.
But she didn’t know-after she had fallen asleep, a figure quietly slipped into her room.
Henry kept his aura restrained as he stood by her bed, looking down at her sleeping form. His
expression was calm, but the storm in his eyes churned like a predator lurking in the dark.
