Chapter 245 A Shared Burden
Third Person POV
“All finished?” Aubrey asked with a faint smile when alpha Henry walked into the room.
As Shadowmoon Pack’s alpha, he not only had to undergo treatments but also handle the pack’s
affairs every day. Sometimes he was gone from morning until night, but no matter how late it was,
he always cback to her.
Seeing her here at this hour startled him. “Why are you here? You should sit down!”
Lately, Aubrey had spent nearly all her tin the laboratory. Finding her in the room now was rare;
he had planned to cto her once he was done with work.
“Experiments need to progress step by step. At this point, the data they’ve gathered is already a
little saturated. So today, they don’t need me.”
Her words let alpha Henry breathe easier, but the thought of tomorrow’s trial darkened his eyes
again. A reckless thought rose in his mind-should he try sspecial method, find another living
test subject?
But a werewolf with a special body like hers wasn’t so easy to find.
“Then you should rest well today.” His gaze dimmed as he moved closer, reaching out to guide her to the bed.

struck him, he might feel skind of release.
But she didn't. Instead, she took his hand and led him to the sofa.
Alpha Henry's steps were stiff with fatigue, his joints slow. Aubrey herself had just vomited, her face pale, her
movements weak.
Seeing this, she couldn't help but laugh softly.
He stared at her, bewildered that she could still laugh at a tlike this.
Pointing to him, then to herself, Aubrey said, “Don’t you think we look like a pair of battered brothers-in-arms?”
The comparison was so apt that alpha Henry's lips lifted slightly. He wanted to laugh, but the thought of her
suffering strangled the smile before it could form. He didn’t want her enduring hardship alongside him.

Chapter 245 A Shared Burden
“Don’t look like that...” Aubrey reached out and tugged at the corners of his mouth. “You don’t have to feel so
sad. | don’t even feel like I'm suffering.”
“How could it not hurt?” The words cut straight into his wound, and he flared instantly. He knew what the Kajit
virus felt like-he lived with that torment every day and every night. How could she claim it didn’t hurt?
It was his fault.
If he had died earlier, if the doctors he had summoned had been quicker with their work, she
wouldn’t have had to bear this pain at all.
The weight of that guilt drove him into restless despair. A man who had never once dreamed now
woke from nightmare after nightmare. Each time, he saw Aubrey’s face twisted in agony a she took
the drug. The scenes replayed endlessly until he startled awake, heart pounding, reaching out to
feel her breath against his hand. Only then could he let his heart settle again.
The fear and dread he lived with-no one else could understand.
Watching him, Aubrey sighed and looked off into the distance. Then, in a low, steady voice, she
said, “Do you know? For a long time, | felt unreal. It was like playing a game, the system crashed,
and then you load the save file again. Even though everything after goes smoothly, there’s this
weightless feeling, as if... | really did die. And this so-called second chance is just a dream. A sweet
dream.”
Her lips curved faintly, her tone calm.
Alpha Henry frowned. He didn’t quite understand. What did she mean by reloading a save file By
calling it a dream?
