If Mr. Dean hadn't arrived when he did, I'd probably be without my legs by now." Samantha studied Elain's expression the entire time, watching for any flicker of emotion.
However, Elain's face remained unnervingly blank. Samantha's suspicion deepened. With a forced smile, she said, "Yes, you were lucky he was there. But next time, you should really think twice before charging into dark, creepy places like that." Elain nodded absently, clearly uninterested in continuing the conversation.
