Chapter 98 Not A Dream

Before Eileen could even speak, he interrupted her, “Eileen, I’m just concerned about you. Did I do

something to upset you? Please tell me. I am willing to change!”

A tattooed hand gently caressed her head as his gaze fell upon her. She wasn’t sure if it was just her

imagination, but she thought she saw a hint of panic in his eyes.

Whenever he wore such an expression, Eileen couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. She felt that she

shouldn’t have said things that upset him.

Eileen’s gaze flitted around, unsure of where to rest. She knew it was because she was overly sensitive

to everything around her, and her self-defense mechanism was too strong.

“I… I’m sorry…” Eileen stammered and brushed her hair aside. “I should go now. You should also go

back and rest early. Good night.”

Eileen didn’t know how to tell him that it wasn’t his fault. He was amazing!

She was the problem..

Before Jasper had a chance to say goodnight to her, he watched as she hastily retreated as if fleeing

from a flood or a ferocious beast. Her black, flowing dress formed a beautiful arc as she moved away

swiftly.

Eileen took a deep breath and tried to calm her emotions. When she regained her

composure, she realized she was still draped in his jacket. A faint scent of mint wafted from the fabric.

It was a familiar aroma that belonged to him.

Thinking of him, Eileen felt a whirlwind of emotions. Holding her phone, she was at a loss. She didn’t

know what she could do to lessen the hurt her words had just inflicted on him.

A few minutes later, her phone began to vibrate.

She unlocked her phone and saw that it was a message from him.

It was a simple two-word phrase. “Good night.”

Her heart sank. The better he treated her, the more she condemned herself inside.

The black Cayenne trailed slowly behind the car, maintaining a safe distance. Jasper waited for a few

minutes, but his phone did not light up. His thin lips were tightly pressed together, and a sense of loss

weighed heavily on his heart. A suffocating feeling washed over him as if the past was creeping back.

He was afraid he would not be able to control himself…

In another Audi, Vera gently reminded, “Eric, when are we leaving?”

The car window was rolled down again, allowing the wind to blow in through the opening. It dispersed

the heat and left her feeling somewhat cold.

Eric’s mysterious eyes were devoid of emotion. Quickly, he stepped on the accelerator, maneuvered

around the car in front, and sped away.

“Give me the medicine,” a deep voice trying to suppress the pain rang out.

Swiftly, Richard took out a Blake medicine bottle from the car’s glove compartment, along with a bottle

of water. He then asked, “Mr. Jasper, do we need to contact Dr. Collins again tomorrow? It’s been quite

a while since your last visit.”

Yannick Collins was Jasper’s psychiatrist. Jasper suffered from severe bipolar disorder. Sometimes, his

condition flared up and made it difficult for him to control his actions. It would even lead him to do some

unpredictable things.

“No need.” Jasper poured out two pills and swallowed them before closing his eyes to feel the pain

radiating from his legs. He used this pain to numb his inner turmoil.

He could sense that Eileen was avoiding him.

For reasons unknown, even though they had only met a few times, Jasper couldn’t figure out what

exactly had caused them to end up like this.

Jasper tried his best not to overthink the reasons behind it…

When it was almost midnight, Eileen finally arrived at the Undella Mansion and was awakened by Alan.

Eileen woke up groggily with a man’s jacket draped over her arm as she got out of the car. As she

walked into the foyer, the tantalizing aroma of food wafted toward her.

“Eric, the ravioli are almost ready.”

It was Vera’s voice, who was busy in the kitchen.

Eileen hung her head low as her eyes were fighting off sleep. Usually, she would be fast asleep. before

eleven and rarely stay up this late. She had not expected that attending a banquet would be so tiring.

Vera, holding a plate of freshly cooked ravioli, turned around only to find that Eric was no longer in the

hall. In just a moment, he had disappeared without a trace.

Eric went to answer a phone call…

Vera happened to see the person who had just returned. “Eileen… I’ve just finished making ravioli.

Would you like some?”

Eileen shook her head and replied in a listless voice, “No, thanks. You guys go ahead and eat! I’m

going to sleep.”

Leaning on the corridor railing, she returned to her room. After closing the door and ensuring it was

securely locked, she slipped off her shoulder straps. Her silky long dress fell to the floor. Barefoot, she

stepped onto the soft carpet and headed into the bathroom for a bath.

Half an hour later, stepping out of the bathroom, her long hair was only half-dried. She quickly slipped

into her pajamas and flopped onto the bed.

Her clothes were still lying on the ground. It was a mess…

A man’s overcoat was neatly hung on the coat rack.

Her phone on the bedside table lit up in the middle of the night. In her sleep, she seemed to see a

blurry silhouette with deep and indifferent eyes…

At the break of dawn the next day, Eileen woke up promptly at seven-thirty, as dictated by her biological

clock.

Brushing her teeth in the bathroom, she was reminded of her arrival the previous night. She began to

replay the scene of her walking through the door….

She was too tired. After taking off her dress, she left it on the floor and didn’t bother to tidy up at all.

But this morning when she woke up, her dress was gone, along with her undergarments…..

“Perhaps, it wasn’t a dream last night?”

Eileen didn’t know what had crossed her mind, but she suddenly felt a wave of nausea. Rushing to the

toilet, she began to vomit uncontrollably.

Mary, who was carrying a basket of dirty laundry, passed by and heard some noises from inside the

room. She pressed her ear against the door and listened to the sounds within before knocking gently.

“Ms. Eileen? Ms. Eileen… Are you all right?”

After about ten minutes, the door was finally opened.

“Is there something you need?” The voice was cold and detached.

Upon seeing the bloodshot eyes of Eileen, Mary was taken aback. “Oh my! What happened to you?

Didn’t you sleep well last night? Breakfast is ready. Come down and eat before it gets cold.”

“I don’t need you to call me anymore, Eileen said as she slammed the door shut.

Mary was greeted with a chilly reception. She clicked her tongue, shook her head, and muttered to

herself, “What is happening now? Everyone in this family has such peculiar personalities!”

Eileen stood upstairs, looking out the window. It was only after Eric and Vera had left that she

descended the stairs.

Once downstairs, Eileen instructed Mary to contact a locksmith to install a separate lock on her sliding

door. She had been tolerating Eric’s repeated boundary-crossing into her room. What is he trying to

achieve?

Eileen rushed back to the classroom just in time for class. Everyone had returned late from the banquet

the previous night. The next day, it seemed like she was the only one with dark circles under her eyes,

while everyone else energetically tackled their assignments and tests.

The intense study atmosphere was palpable. Eileen quickly took a seat and began working on the

remaining problems from the previous day.

Yvette walked over to her and said, “I’m sorry, Eileen! I was so busy yesterday that I couldn’t take good

care of you. Did you still have a good time?”

Eileen’s lips formed a faint smile. “No worries. It wasn’t boring at all, and the dessert was quite

delicious.”

To that, Yvette said, “If you’d like, I can bring you some more tomorrow. Which kind do you prefer?

Never mind, I’ll just bring you a variety tomorrow!”

“No need to trouble yourself. We can do it another time,” said Eileen as she changed the subject. “You

came to see me so early in the morning, so there must be something you need!”

Eileen knew what was on Yvette’s mind. Her kindness couldn’t possibly be without reason. If there was

nothing going on, Yvette wouldn’t have come to find her.

Yvette found it difficult to speak while standing, so she squatted down. “Actually, there are two things.

The first one is about Mr. Gardner. Our teacher from the Olympiad Math team. has seen your grades

and decided to give you a chance to join the team, provided you pass the test. The second thing is…

you have to join me and your brother for dinner tonight!”

What?
