Chapter 231
Kids in this generation knew a lot more than kids in those days. Since Sean started kindergarten, he often
interacted with his classmates and becparticularly interested in their parents’ relationship.
One of his friends told him, "If your parents really love each other, they'll definitely sleep in the sbed and
not in separate rooms."
Another friend said, "Sometimes, my parents’ love for each other makesdoubt my existence. My dad barely
looks atwhen he sees my mom."
After hearing these things over and over, Sean started to understand more.
For example... Last night, he had deliberately created an opportunity for Brad and Nadine to be together, hoping
they wouldn't get a divorce.
His deskmate, Keira, had mentioned, "Kids from divorced families usually aren't happy. Moms get new husbands,
and dads get new wives. Once they get a stepmom, even their biological dad will turn into a stepdad."

Since hearing that, Sean had desperately wanted his parents to reconcile. Seeing Brad and Nadine sleeping in
the sroom, he got up early just to see if they were affectionate toward each other.
Nadine, noticing Sean's inquisitive expression, felt like something had happened while she was asleep that she
wasn't aware of.
She asked Sean, "What do you mean we slept together last night? I already told you. Brad and | are separating.
How could we still be sleeping together?"
Last night, she had lost control of her emotions, teetering on the edge of a breakdown. She remembered doing a
lot of crazy things but had no recollection of what happened afterward.
No matter how hard she tried to recall the events of last night, all she could remember was Brad gripping her
chin to stop her from going berserk in the storage room.
Disheartened that his effort to create a chance for them was wasted, Sean slumped against Nadine like a
deflated balloon.
"Mommy, Keira said that when parents divorce, it's the kids who get hurt. | don't want a stepdad or stepmom."
He looked up at Nadine with pleading eyes.
Though Brad wasn't exactly great to him, he was still his father, and Brad was amazing at building blocks. Sean
wanted to keep playing with him.
Sean's innocent words and pleading gaze pierced Nadine's heart, making her fee as if a knife had stabbed her in
the softest part of her soul. The pain spread from her chest O throughout her body.
She looked away, unable to meet Sean's eyes. She tried to stay calm as she
comforted him. "Sean, don't worry about adult stuff. It's not your concern.
"Even if Brad and | separate, we will still love you just as much. You can stay with me, and there will be no
stepdad. Don't worry."
Before, she had been focused on quickly divorcing Brad to escape her misery neglecting Sean's feelings. Now
facing his pleading eyes, she realized she had acted impulsively.
Even if a divorce was inevitable, it should be done gradually to minimize the impact on Sean. It shouldn't be
fueled by anger and determination to fight Brad.

If Brad refused to give up custody of Sean, her idea of a divorce was just wishful thinking.
Sean seemed to understand what
she said. He looked at her and
asked, "So, you have to divorce
Daddy no matter what? | can't have both Daddy and Mommy at the
stime, can I?" *
Though his voice was calm, as if he were discussing someone else's matter, the sadness in his eyes was
unmistakable.
Nadine's heart ached for him, and she quickly hugged him. "Sean, sweetheart, don't think about that. I'll always
love you.
"You don't need to worry about adult matters, okay? You're still just a little kid. Now, tell me, what do you want
for breakfast?"
