Chapter 77: Divine Beast Teddy, Half A Month Goes By Quietly

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

Ahead was a blazing sea of fire!

To the back was a gushing waterfall!

A sight as unusual as that appearing in the same place was honestly a wondrous spectacle. However, the Fire Cloud Mercenaries were in no mood to admire the scenery because they were currently busy with dismembering the Titanic Dragon-Ape.

Every one of them worked conscientiously and diligently, lest they accidentally showed even the slightest bit of disrespect.

What? Resentment?

They didn’t dare to!

Just how terrifyingly powerful must one be in order to wipe out almost 100 high-grade Magical Beasts in under five minutes? Who’d dare to harbor any resentment?

They longed only to finish dismembering the Titanic Dragon-Ape as soon as possible and send Meng Lei away after that. They didn’t have the leisure to think about anything else.

In the cave elsewhere, Meng Lei was currently playing with the baby Titanic Dragon-Ape. After the contract was formed, a mysterious connection had appeared between Meng Lei and the little fellow. Just like that, it had taken Meng Lei as its closest companion.

Meng Lei rubbed the little fellow’s head and remarked with a laugh, “Seeing how you’re pitch-black all over, how about I name you Mastiff1?”

The little fellow looked completely lost as it blinked in an adorably silly manner. Black lines filled Ol’ Amos’ forehead, however, and he remarked, “Mastiff? Can’t you give it a nicer-sounding name?”

“How about Husky1?”

“What’s a Husky?”

“It’s also a type of dog!”

“...”

Ol’ Amos was rendered totally speechless. “What sort of names are those? Your taste in names is terrible. It’s always either a cat or a dog. Can’t you be a little less of a good-for-nothing?”

“Names are just a way of referring to things, isn’t it? Is there a need to be so serious about it?” Meng Lei was none too bothered. He tilted his head to the side and suggested, “How about Teddy1? What do you think of that name?”

“Teddy? Teddy! Yeah, sounds pretty good!” Ol’ Amos thought for a moment and nodded. Then, he asked, “What’s the meaning behind the name?”

“Teddy is also a kind of... Cough, divine beast! The kind that can destroy the heavens and earth. Its destructiveness and all that are comparable to a Colossal Dragon!” replied Meng Lei as he held back his laughter.

“A divine beast? Is there a divine beast like that?”

Ol’ Amos was rather dubious. It just felt rather strange, somehow.

“Teddy is a kind of divine beast from my hometown. Not a lot of people know of it, so it’s normal for you to not have heard of it before!”

Meng Lei laughed and settled on the name. “Alright, let’s call it Teddy. It just so happens that the name of this little fellow’s species starts with ‘T’ too, so Teddy is a very appropriate choice of name.”

“Something feels rather off...”

At this point, the captain walked in and interrupted their idle chat. “Sir, the Titanic Dragon-Ape has been fully dismembered. May I know what we should do with it?”

“What to do with it? Bring it away, of course!”

Meng Lei left the cave and started to store the dismembered Titanic Dragon-Ape part by part into his spatial magic devices. However, they ran out of space as he was halfway through.

Meng Lei had six spatial magic devices of various sizes in total, and all of them were now stored full to the brim. Yet there was still half of the Titanic Dragon-Ape left!

“Ol’ President, my spatial magic devices can’t fit anything else inside them. What should I do?”

Meng Lei didn’t want to give up the Titanic Dragon-Ape. That was a Ninth-Grade Magical Beast; even a single strand of hair mustn’t be left behind! Every part of it was money itself!

“No problem!”

The old academy president smiled calmly. Then, with a wave, every bit of the remaining half of the Titanic Dragon-Ape vanished from where they were!

Upon the sight of this, Meng Lei exclaimed at once, “Ol’ President, do you also carry spatial magic devices everywhere with you?”

“Duh! This old man is a high and mighty Saint Domain, after all. If I don’t even have something like a spatial magic device, wouldn’t I be a laughingstock?” Ol’ Amos replied haughtily with a snort.

“That’s true!”

Meng Lei’s eyes swiveled shiftily as sneaky little ideas occurred to him. That old geezer had previously said that he was all alone in the world and didn’t carry any worldly possessions on him. But from the look of it now, it seemed like that was a complete lie!

After all, he was already carrying spatial magic devices everywhere with him...

“Sir, how should we handle these Magical Beasts?”

The captain’s lip corners started twitching when he saw all the dismembered Titanic Dragon-Ape parts disappear. Although the loss pained him terribly, he didn’t dare to let it show. As such, he’d pointed at the charred Magical Beast carcasses and raised the question.

By now, the sea of fire had already extinguished, with only a few sparks still burning here and there, to reveal several “charcoal” mounds—in other words, the unlucky Sixth- and Seventh-Grade Magical Beasts!

“Gouge out their magic cores. You can discard the carcasses after that,” replied Meng Lei detachedly after casting a sweeping glance at the carcasses.

“Discard them? Sir, why are you discarding them?”

The captain was taken aback. He hastily tried to persuade him otherwise. “Even though these Magical Beast carcasses are burnt, their bodies haven’t suffered much damage on the inside, so you can still sell them for money!”

“You can have them if you want!” Meng Lei said as he shook his head lightly.

He had no intention of taking those Magical Beast carcasses with him. Disregarding the fact that his spatial magic devices were already full, even if they weren’t, he wouldn’t have taken them anyway. They wouldn’t bring much money, after all.

“Thank you for bestowing them to us, Sir!”

The captain was overjoyed, and he thanked him repeatedly. These were high-grade Magical Beast carcasses! Even though they were burnt, their internal organs were still fully intact and undamaged, so all of them could be sold for money.

The key here, though, was that there were so many of them! If they were to sell them all, they’d definitely earn a hefty sum!

“Go!” Meng Lei waved him off.

“Yes, Sir!”

The Fire Cloud Mercenaries were very quick in their actions. In just half an hour’s time, they’d already dug out all the magic cores. After Meng Lei took the magic cores, he left in satisfaction.

The mercenaries heaved a big sigh of relief as they gazed at Meng Lei from the back, and some even fell directly onto their bottoms!

“Phew! He’s finally gone!”

“There’s too much pressure being in the same place as him!”

“Hurry! Clean up these Magical Beast carcasses at once. We’re leaving once we’re done, too. It’s not safe here!”

“Yes, Captain!”

...

Ripples went through the lake surface, and the water sparkled under the sun.

As the saying went, “If the breeze doesn’t come, the water doesn’t ripple”. action

The water in the large and vast lake was clean and clear, and the water weeds were fertile and healthy. As the breeze blew across the lake, a series of ripples went through the mirror-like lake surface.

Croak!

Croak!

A Green-Eyed Frog, the size of a millstone, floated on the water surface. Its lower jaw swelled and deflated as it croaked joyfully, singing the mating song unique to the Green-Eyed Frogs as it attempted to attract the attention of the opposite sex.

Splash!

The sound of something emerging from the water suddenly rang out. An enormous opened wide mouth sprung out from the bottom of the lake and swallowed the partner-seeking Green-Eyed Frog in one gulp. Then, it started to chew happily on it.

Bloody water churned as bones snapped and sinews were severed.

The poor Green-Eyed Frog! Not only did it fail to find a partner, but it even attracted a fatal disaster instead. How utterly miserable!

Bam!

A shadow descended from above at this exact moment. It grabbed the Magical Beast chewing on the Green-Eyed Frog in one swift motion and dragged it out of the water.

The Magical Beast that had been caught was the Fourth-Grade Golden-Light Fish. Its body was a glittering gold throughout, and it had an extremely exaggerated mouth. It was bathed in the sunlight and looked as if it was made out of gold!

With the Golden-Light Fish in its grip, the shadow flitted the whole way across the lake surface. Then, it entered the forest beside the lake and threw the fish onto the grass. The struggling Golden-Light Fish jumped up and down against the ground, which started to shake from the impact.

“You’re back, Teddy!”

Next to a campfire, a topless young man smiled and greeted the shadow as he fiddled with a few bottles and cans.

Three meters tall and shaped like an ape, the shadow had black dragon scales all over its body, a pair of black dragon wings on its back, and a strong, muscular body with bulging muscles. Yes, it was Meng Lei’s Magical Contract Pet, Teddy, the little Titanic Dragon-Ape!

“Grooo!”

Teddy poked its head over and rubbed against Meng Lei with a look of affection in its eyes, and he patted its head in response. Then, he walked over to the Golden-Light Fish and began to clean it.

That was their lunch for the day.

Half a month had gone by since the day he and Teddy had entered into a contract. The little fellow’s stage of frailty had already passed. It was now comparable to a Fifth-Grade Magical Beast, and even ripping apart ferocious beasts with its bare hands was nothing difficult for it.

Meng Lei was very satisfied with Teddy’s growth rate. Not only did the little fellow take only three days to get past its stage of frailty, but in the days that followed, it even improved by leaps and bounds daily and showed astounding improvements in its strength.

In Ol’ Amos’ words, Titanic Dragon-Ape infants that had Ninth-Grade Magical Beast blood in them like Teddy grew at exceedingly alarming rates. They were capable of reaching heights that other Magical Beasts could never achieve in their entire lives in just a dozen years or so and could be said to be kings among Magical Beasts!
