Chapter 50
Sofia continued her tirade, her words getting harsher. She shouted, “You usually go to the supermarket in the
morning, but today you went out at an unusual time.
“I found it odd, so | decided to keep an eye on you and followed you here. Sure enough, | caught you red-
handed!
“Laura, no wonder you can’t have children. You're too wild, completely ruined! You're nothing but a shameless
tramp. Any man who marries you is cursed!
“| feel so sorry for my son-working himself to death every day while you sit here laughing and drinking coffee
with your lover, living the high life!”
Lewis's brows furrowed deeply. His sharp voice cut through her rant. “Enough!”
Sofia trembled slightly at his icy tone, but she wasn’t one to back down. “What? Can't take being called out for
what you've done?”
Unable to stand up to Lewis, she shifted her aggression toward the weak Laura. “Letteach you a lesson, you
shameless woman!”
She raised her designer bag and swung it wildly at Laura.
Lewis pulled Laura behind him, blocking the attack with a raised arm and pushing Sofia back lightly in one
smooth motion.
Sofia’s rage flared even higher as she couldn't hit Laura. She deliberately dropped to the ground, shouting,
“Help! Someone clook! I'm being attacked! You two cheating scumbags won't end well!”
Unaware of the situation, people nearby began whispering among themselves, seven taking photos and
videos. The situation spiraled into chaos.
Ignoring the risk of being hit again, Laura stepped forward to help Sofia up, saying gently, “Sofia, the ground is
cold not good for your health. Lethelp you up, okay?”
Sofia pushed Laura away, refusing to let her near. “Don’t touchwith your filthy hands! You disgust me!
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMatteo will be here any moment, and I'll make sure he sees your true colors. You won't fool him any longer, you
vixen!”
As she finished speaking, Matteo arrived. He glared at Laura fiercely and snapped, “Laura, is this how you treat
my mother?”
“I... I didn’t,” Laura said weakly.
“If anything happens to her, I'll never forgive you,” Matteo barked as he helped Sofia up and sat her down.
Sofia held Matteo’s hand, putting on her most pitiful expression. “Matteo, this shameless woman and her lover
pushed me. Oh, my poor back! Do not go easy on this wicked woman this time!”
Matteo’s attention was drawn to the tall, striking Lewis who stood out in the crowd. From the moment he
entered, his gaze had been fixed on Lewis.
Lewis stood straight, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his tailored suit pants. His posture was
elegant, but his presence was overwhelming.
His eyebrows were prominent, and his deep, inscrutable eyes were slightly narrowed. Even without speaking, he
exuded a suffocating sense of authority.
Matteo felt immense pressure and unease. He was sure that Lewis was no ordinary person.
Uncomfortable, Matteo turned to Laura and demanded, “Who is he?”

Sofia chimed in before Laura could answer, “Who cares who he is? Call the police! Get these two adulterers
arrested! I've got plenty of evidence on my phone.”
“Sophia, you've got it all wrong,” Laura said, turning to Matteo. “Matteo, he’s my brother-in-law.”
Sofia didn’t believe it and scoffed, “Brother-in-law? You're quite the liar! You only have one sister, Doris, and |
know her boyfriend is Ryan Watson! You think you can lie your way out of this? Not a chance!”
The Webb family was unaware that Ryan was now engaged to someone else.
“Doris and Ryan broke up a long tago. She’s now married to the man standing before us,” Laura explained,
grudgingly patient.
This matter concerned both Lewis’s reputation and her sister Doris’s happiness. Laura decided that she couldn't
let Sofia spread baseless accusations.
“Who would believe that?” Sofia refused to believe Laura, firmly convinced there was an affair.
“I'll ask Doris to prove it,” Laura said. At this point, any explanation seemed futile.
Lewis had no choice but to agree with Laura’s decision. He understood that his invitation to Laura had
inadvertently caused this crisis and that getting Doris over to explain was the only way to help clear Laura's
name.
“How c| didn’t know Doris was married?” Matteo pressed further, surprised at how out of the loop he was-
even his own sister-in-law had gotten married without his knowledge.
“They only registered their marriage and haven't held a ceremony yet, so they haven't informed the extended
family,” Laura explained. She herself had only learned about it by chance.
“What does he do?” Matteo asked, as though conducting an interrogation.
Laura shook her head; she didn’t know.
At that moment, Lewis stepped aside to take a call. He seemed to be very busy. His fluent Velantrian only
deepened Matteo’s curiosity about his identity.
Shortly after, Doris arrived, slightly out of breath from hurrying. “Laura!”
“Doris!” Laura looked at her sister as if seeing a lifeline.
Lewis ended his call and walked over just as Doris reached them.
“Mrs. Webb, Matteo, letintroduce you. This is my husband, Lewis Hartman,” Doris said with measured
politeness, her tone masking her anger. “Honey, this is my brother-in-law Matteo and his mother.”
Doris had received a message from Laura beforehand and knew roughly what had happened. The thought of her
sister and husband being slandered like this made her want to lash out.
“This proves nothing!” Sofia snapped. “All it shows is that you're married. It doesn’t prove your husband and
your sister aren’t having an improper relationship!”
Her baseless accusation left Doris fuming. She couldn’t believe anyone would spout such nonsense.

Lewis, the real victim of the slander, delivered a sharp response. “Hey, old witch, are you so suspicious of your
daughter-in- law because your son is impotent?”
This was classic Lewis-one casually delivered line that cut to the core. Doris couldnt help but admire his sharp
tongue.
Sure enough, Sofia’s face flushed red, while Matteo’s darkened with rage and embarrassment; he really wanted
to disappear.

“You... you're talking nonsense!” Sofia sputtered angrily. “My son is perfectly fine! He's been excellent his whole
life!”
“If your son is so excellent, then no one would be willing to leave him,” Lewis retorted smoothly.
“Of course, no one would!” Sofia said proudly.
“I've recorded that,” Lewis said, holding up his phone.
Only then did Sofia realize she had been outmaneuvered. Her own words had cleared Laura of wrongdoing.
“You... you're despicable!” she exclaimed, visibly affected by the toll of her own contradictions. “You've done
shameful things and still have the nerve to slander my son and even setup!”
Doris’s expression turned icy. “Mrs. Webb, if you can’t speak properly, then maybe you should just keep your
mouth shut.”
“How dare you talk to an elder like that!” Sofia snapped.
“And what qualifies you as an elder?” Doris shot back. “You spread lies, stir up trouble, and speak without any
moral decency. You claimed my sister and husband are having an affair. Do you have any proof?”
“I am the proof! | saw it with my own eyes. How could | be mistaken?” Sofia declared boldly.
“Did you see them holding hands? Hugging? Kissing?” Doris’s voice was firm and unyielding.
“This is a public place. We can check the café’s surveillance footage. If none of that happened, then you're
slandering my husband and my sister. And you'll have to face the legal consequences!”
