Ivan entered the private room and found Zoe sitting on the floor, tears streaming down her face. He couldn't

help but feel a little sorry for her.

But Lewis's heart was made of stone.

Ivan extended a hand to help Zoe up. “Con, I'll take you home.”

Zoe used his support to stand but cried harder. “Ivan, I’m not giving up. You'll support me, won't you?”

“Zoe, | advise you to give up. He doesn't like being chased. The more you push, the more he'll resent you.” Ivan

handed her a tissue.

Zoe's eyes were red. “I've loved him for ten years. | don’t mind waiting longer.”

“Love isn’t about who starts first or how long it takes,” Ivan explained. “Besides, what's so good about Lewis?

“A cold face, a sharp tongue, a stone heart-what’s there to like about him?

“You have so many good men around you. Why insist on hanging on to him?”

“I won't let you say that about him! He's the best in my eyes! No one can compare to him!” Zoe defended Lewis.

Ivan sighed silently.

He couldn’t understand why Zoe saw only the good in Lewis, ignoring all his flaws.

Lewis had returned to room “Paris”.

Lola took a sip of water. “Mr. Hartman, you know Mr. Mitchell, and Mr. Mitchell knows Ms. Wilkinson. But you don’t

know Ms. Wilkinson?”

“Ms. Bates, he has so many clients. | can’t possibly know them all,” Lewis redirected the topic to what Lola liked.

“But Ivan’s still single.”

Lola’s smile deepened as she continued drinking, hiding her inner joy.

Downstairs, Lewis asked Lola and Doris to wait while he went to settle the bill.

A few well-dressed wealthy housewives cdown the stairs, passing right in front of Doris and Lola.

“Mrs. Watson, isn’t that Ryan's ex-girlfriend?” Mrs. Foster commented.

Mrs. Watson immediately spotted Doris and looked at her with disdain. “Ex-girlfriend? She was just a plaything

for Ryan for a while.”

Lola wanted to defend Doris, but Doris stopped her with a look, signaling her not to engage.

Doris then tried to walk away, but Mrs. Martin blocked her path. “Women from low-class families are full of

schemes, trying to climb into the upper class by dating rich men and marrying into wealthy families.”

“The Watson family is a noble family. How could we accept such a disgraceful woman? Only someone like Leia is

the perfect daughter-in-law. She’s the only one suited for Ryan.” Mrs. Watson grabbed Mrs. Martin's hand,

smiling with satisfaction.

Mrs. Martin smiled, “Leia is incomparable to those lowly women.”

“So Mrs. Watson, you gave her one million dollars to make her leave Ryan?” Mrs. Lane interrupted.

“One million dollars? Does she even deserve that? | wouldn't give a single cent to a woman like her!” Mrs.

Watson sneered. “She had the sense not to ask for anything.”

“Mrs. Watson, you're impressive, you got rid of that lowly woman without breaking a sweat.” Several of the

ladies gave Mrs. Watson a thumbs up in praise.

Despite the mockery, Doris remained calm and composed.

She picked up a glass of water and threw it at Mrs. Watson, who screamed as she was caught off guard.

“Doris, what are you doing?” Mrs. Watson wiped the water off her face, looking utterly disheveled.

Your mouth stinks. | was just helping you clean it,” Doris said, refilling her glass with water. Her cold gaze swept

over the other wealthy ladies, their faces filled with fear and disgust. “Should | clean your mouths too?”

“You really are a filthy thing!” Mrs. Watson snapped, furious.

“Everyone has their limits. Mrs. Watson, don’t look for trouble, or Ill give you what you deserve,” Doris replied.

She had initially been trying to avoid making a scene, especially with Lewis around, but Mrs. Watson and her

group had gone too far. If she didn’t fight back now, they'd really think they could walk all over her.

Lola had thought Doris would continue to endure, but seeing her fight back made her feel great. She supported

Doris with an extra jab. “Mrs. Watson, have you forgotten that your son Ryan fell for Doris at first sight and

pursued her so hard?

“Doris got together with him only out of pity.

“He secretly got engaged behind Doris’s back and still wanted to have it all. When Doris broke it off, he kept

pestering her.

“Why don’t you buy a dog leash and keep your son in order?”

You two are both worthless! Doris, you're just a worthless woman no one would marry!” Mrs. Watson hissed,

grinding her teeth in rage.

A tall, imposing figure walked up beside Doris, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and gently pulling her into

his embrace.

He fixed Mrs. Watson with a cold, threatening stare that made her feel suffocated. “It seems you won't get your

way. She's already Mrs. Hartman now.”

Lewis's timely intervention gave Doris a sense of security.

Mrs. Watson didn’t know who Lewis was, but the aura he exuded was overwhelming. His cold, sinister expression

made people hesitant to provoke him.

“So what?” she gulped nervously.

*If you continue to insult my wife, slander her, or make personal attacks, we'll have to discuss the details of Jake

Watson's car accident, Lewis said, leaving it at that.

Mrs. Watson's face turned pale. “I don’t have tto waste here with you. Let's go.”

Mrs. Watson quickly left, defeated.

On the way back, Doris didn’t say a word, staring out the window at the passing scenery.

While waiting at a red light, Lewis glanced at her reflection in the window and noticed she seemed a bit down.

When they got home, Biscuit jumped up and grabbed Doris’s pants leg.

“Miscuit, stop it Doris patted Biscuit's head.

Bor Biscuit seemed not to understand, continuing to cling to Doris and nearly tripping her.

Lewis helped steady her, their eyes meeting briefly before Doris quickly looked away,

He still sensed something was off with Doris. “Something on your mind?”

“No.” Doris shook her head.

But Lewis could tell she was avoiding something. “If you have something to say, why not just say it? Isn't it hard

keeping it inside?”

Doris pursed her lips. “Don’t you know Ms. Wilkinson?”

“Is that important?” Lewis asked, wondering why he had to know her.

“She's so beautiful. Do you like her?” Doris asked, looking at him.

“What? Are you jealous?” Lewis teased.

“Of course not,” Doris quickly denied. “We're just a couple with no emotional attachment. We agreed that if you

find someone you like, we can divorce carly and you'll be free to pursue true love.”

“True love? For a brief moment, Lewis thought of something.

“I don’t have anyone | like. During our marriage, | won't disrespect you like that,” Lewis assured her. “Stop

overthinking it.”

Doris didn’t want to admit that she was overthinking. But she couldn’t deny that she indeed felt much better

now.

“I'm going to rest now,” she said.

“Go ahead.”
