Chapter 440 Isadora's face had turned pale from the cold, but she tried her best to reassure Wendy. "Don't... worry. It's not blood." It was just water she'd picked up from the floor a moment ago.
But since she wore a black evening dress, it was hard to tell. In the dim lighting, the wet patch looked disturbingly like blood.
Still, Isadora was frozen to the bone-her stomach kept spasming painfully with the cold, each cramp sharper than the last.
She didn't dare move any more than necessary.
She knew they needed to get out of this godforsaken place-fast.
Even if she wasn't bleeding right now, staying any longer would be a real risk for her unborn baby.
Wendy gritted her teeth against the pain in her leg, slowly hauling herself up with the help of the wall. Step by step, she made her way to the heavy door and started banging on it as hard as she could.

This warehouse was far from the main ballroom, up in the hills. Unless someone happened to stroll this way, they could scream themselves hoarse and still no one would hear.
Wendy paced anxiously, rubbing her arms and sides, trying to coax a little warmth back into her body.
But the freezing air barely budged. The cold from the walk-in freezer had seeped into the rest of the storage room over time, chilling everything to the bone.
If they stayed much longer, it felt like the air itself would start to freeze.
Wendy and Isadora would freeze right along with it. And Isadora was pregnant, which made it all the more dangerous.
Wendy kept pounding on the door until her hands ached, her voice growing hoarse.
"Please, someone, we need help! Isadora's about to pass out!" A fine layer of frost had settled on Isadora's eyelashes, her chest aching with every frozen breath. "Wendy... stop calling out. Save your strength." Wendy slumped back against the wall and returned to Isadora's side.
She saw how blue Isadora's lips had gotten.
Tears welled up in Wendy's eyes and spilled down her cheeks as she sobbed, gasping for air.
She slapped herself hard across the face, her cheek reddening instantly.
"This is all my fault. I'm a total jinx. I keep dragging you into trouble. If anything happens to your baby... just kill me, Isadora." Isadora's head throbbed even harder at Wendy's crying. She reached out with a trembling hand and gripped Wendy's, stopping her from slapping herself again.
Their hands were both red and stiff from the cold, fingers as numb as icicles.
Wendy squeezed Isadora's hand tightly, her voice shaking. "Isadora, I'm scared. I'm so scared something's going to happen to you. I've been yelling for ages, but no one's coming. Are we really going to freeze to death here?" Isadora met her gaze and spoke, firm and steady. "We're going to be okay. I promise." Wendy stared at her, searching for reassurance. "How do you know?" A faint, exhausted smile flickered at the corners of Isadora's mouth as she glanced down at the sapphire bracelet on her wrist.
The blue gem shone in the darkness, catching what little light there was and throwing off a cold, beautiful glow. "Victor will cfor me," she said softly, conviction in her voice. "He'll find me." Wendy didn't know why Isadora sounded so sure.

Silently, she prayed that Victor-her last hope-would hurry and find them.
Because they were running out of time.
Isadora's eyes were rimmed red from the cold. She bent her head whispering gently to her belly. Hang in there, baby. We'll wait for your daddy together, okay?" Ballroom.
