Chapter 86 Can You Ever Say Something Nice for Once

Thirty minutes later, Veronica, with Leah by her side, carefully scaled the back wall of the James family estate
and slipped quietly into the waiting Rolls-Royce parked just beyond the gates.
Once the car door clicked shut, an unmistakable masculine scent filled the confined space. Veronica kept her
head down, her hands tightly clutched together, her body tense and clearly uncomfortable.
Her uncase stood in sharp contrast to Leah, who was far more composed,
Emyr had already instructed Tad to dig into Veronica's past. However, there were three missing years, an
untraceable gap in her history.
Despite all the resources of the Cross family, they couldn't uncover any details about that time.
It was a mystery so well hidden, only a few forces could have managed it.
Emyr’s voice broke the silence. “You really don’t remember anything from those three years?” His tone was
sharp, and Veronica froze in place, her body stiffening with sudden dread.
Her fearful reaction made Emyr frown even more deeply.
How could she be so nervous?
Veronica swallowed hard, her voice shaky. “I-I had a long-lasting fever while | was away. That's why | came
back...”

“Not a single memory remains?” Emyr pressed, his eyes narrowing.
“No
none at all.”
“The necklace-who gave it to you?”
“I-1 don’t remember. But I've worn it since | cback.” Veronica kept her head lowered, avoiding Emyr’s
intense gaze, scared that her lie would be exposed.
Emyr’s expression darkened as irritation flickered across his face.
“Letsee your hands,” he demanded.
“Huh? Oh, okay.” Confused, Veronica extended her hands toward him.
Emyr gave them a quick glance, then rubbed his temples in frustration.
Her palms, rough and covered in calluses and old scars, left no room for doubt.
For a brief moment, he wondered if she was a woman pretending to be a man. But seeing how meek and
ineffective she appeared, he couldn't help but feel disappointed.
“A year ago, you saved my life in South Aspus. | intend to repay that debt. Tomorrow, I'll have Tad take you to the
Cross family’s private hospital for a full exam. Maybe they can help you recover your memories. Here's my
number-keep it with you, and don’t hesitate to call if you need anything.”
Emyr handed her a sleek black-and-gold business card, and Veronica's heart began to race. She felt as if it
might burst from her chest.

Before she could think twice, she blurted out, “Mr. Emyr, could | ask you a favor?”
With Leah, Veronica and Celeste absent, Charmaine found her day much more peaceful.
At lunchtime, she made her way to the eastern dining hall on campus.

Eragos University had three dining halls, but the cast side offered more upscale private rooms, complete with
lounges and gaming areas. It was where the wealthier students usually gathered during lunch breaks.
From a distance, Charmaine spotted Daniel walking with a group of aristocratic students, heading up to a private
room.
Daniel turned, his face lighting up with surprise and pleasure. “Charmaine!”
One of his friends teased, “Oh, look at Daniel-he’s got a beauty calling out to him. Lucky guy...
“Shut up. Her name’s Charmaine, and she’s the most important person in my life,” Daniel replied with a playful
warning before jogging over to her.
Reaching her side, he grinned warmly. “Charmaine, I'm so happy you clooking for me.”

Charmaine handed him a small red velvet box. “This is a birthday gift for Mrs. Alessa. | just got it this morning.
With everything that happened last night, | couldn’t deliver it in person. Can you make sure she gets it?”
Daniel accepted the box with both hands. “Anything from you-Grandma will love it.”
After a moment's hesitation, he asked, “Last night, what happened between you and Emyr-"
“Don’t even start. I'm just asking you to give her the gift. That's all,” Charmaine cut him off firmly and headed
toward the counter for her lunch.
She found a quiet corner, ready to eat, when someone took the seat beside her.
She looked up and sighed in frustration.
It's Milo again.
Why does he always show up whenever Daniel's around? Are the two of them plotting to make my life more
difficult?
“Milo, what are you doing here again? Is your entertainment company that slow? Oh, wait-Leah probably doesn’t
have much going on right now despite all your effort promoting her. Makes sense if you're bored,” Charmaine
said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Milo opened his mouth to respond but stopped himself, seemingly lost in thought.
His
gaze shifted to her tray, noticing the meager lunch-a piece of bread and two small vegetarian dishes. His
expression darkened, filled with something more complex.
Charmaine, feeling uneasy under his stare, snapped, “What? Have you turned into a statue?”
“Charmaine, can you ever say something nice for once?”
