Bennett could not contain himself. “Mr. Riverson, you promisedlast night!”

Roger leaned in, lowering his voice. “This was a last-minute situation. Early this morning, the mayor met with
Rex, the CEO of Ydris Group. He agreed to fully support all smart projects in South City-for free. The catch? He
insisted on participating in the bidding process.”
Roger subtly pointed toward a room on the second floor, its champagne-tinted glass reflecting the light. “He
gave his vote to Dominic. Sometimes, you just have to accept fate. I'll see if I can help you next time.”
Roger's intention was clear as he finished speaking, placing a firm hand on Bennett's shoulder and pressing
down with enough force to cause his bones to ache.
Bennett flinched under the pressure, feeling the weight of the unspoken threat.
Roger gave him a final, pointed look before waving him off and leaving the venue.
The moment Roger was out of sight, Bennett's legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor, his body trembling
with despair.
In the audience, the chaos and applause around her seemed distant to Charmaine.
Her focus remained locked on Bennett.
She had watched him swagger with confidence, revel in his arrogance, and now fall apart like a lifeless shell.
The corners of her lips curled upward, the satisfaction spreading through her until she could not help herself-she
laughed.
It had been ages since she felt this happy.
Her phone vibrated, a message preview lighting up the screen.
Rex texted, “Done, Boss. Your annual bonus is all going to charity now.”
Charmaine quickly replied, “It’s fine. I've got bonuses from my other companies.”
Rex replied, “Okay, rich girl!”

“Charmaine!”
Celeste, practically bouncing with excitement, grabbed Charmaine’s arm. “Hurry up! Let's take a group photo,
then head to the celebration banquet! My dad booked the most luxurious revolving restaurant in all of Eragos.
We're going to eat until we drop!”
Charmaine could barely keep up as Celeste dragged her along.
As they stepped outside, they spotted Willard and a few others from the family nearby.
Celeste immediately pulled Charmaine in the opposite direction, whispering, “Oh wow, who would've thought our
family would beat the Nelsons, one of the five major families, and win the bid?”

Charmaine saw through Celeste’s attempt to rile them up but did not call her out, a faint smile tugging at her
lips.
The Nelsons noticed them approaching. Their expressions turned cold, and Leah clenched her fists tightly, her
nails digging into her palms.
Celeste caught sight of Leah and raised her voice.
“Oh, Charmaine, do you have a crystal ball or something? You said my dad’s business would get good news, and
look how fast it ctrue! Charmaine, you're the true hero of our family!”
Hearing this, Dominic, who was walking ahead, stopped abruptly. He turned, his eyes brimming with tears of joy,
and bowed deeply to Charmaine.
“Celeste is right,” he said sincerely, his voice shaking. “Ms. Nelson, you're truly our family’s benefactor-a great
lucky star! If it weren't for your encouragement to Celeste, | might have given up long ago!”
Dominic’s heartfelt words cfrom the trials he had endured, with Bennett's constant ridicule nearly breaking
his resolve. If not for Celeste’s encouragement, he would have abandoned the project halfway.
Before Charmaine could respond or downplay the praise, Dominic and Celeste dragged her to the center of the
group for a photo.
“The center spot has to go to Ms. Nelson!”
While the Wheelers celebrated in high spirits, the atmosphere among the Nelsons was cold and bitter.
Valda, in particular, looked furious. Her face twisted with rage at Dominic's words of “benefactor” and “lucky
star.”
“What nonsense,” she muttered darkly. “Charmaine, a benefactor? A lucky star? Ridiculous!”
“She’s clearly a disaster, a jinx!” Valda spat.
“It must be because of her that we failed to win the bid
Willard’s face was grim, and Olympia’s expression was equally complex.
Neither said a word, but their silence spoke volumes.
They wished desperately to trade places, to be the ones reveling in victory.
Leah's voice trembled, her words barely audible. “I'm sorry, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Jonah. It's my fault. | didn’t
think it would end like this. | made everyone wait in vain...
