Celeste greeted her with a warm smile, "Valerie, hil How are you?" "Hi, Celeste! I'm good, I cto see Serenity," Valerie said, feeling a bit nervous, "Oh, have they told her you're here?" Celeste asked kindly "Yes, they said she'll be down in a moment... How are your babies? I heard your labor was way earlier than expected." "Yes, way too early-thirteen weeks ahead of schedule, actually. It was tough for a while, but now the girls are doing much better," Celeste said honestly, "I'm so glad to hear that! Have you chosen their names yet?" "Yes, one of them will be Martina, and the other will be Flora." "One of them is named after Peter's mother..." Valerie said, recalling the name.
"Yes, and the other one after my mother. They're identical. They're sleeping now, but as soon as they wake up, I'll take you to meet them," Celeste said warmly.
"I'm really happy to hear they're doing well, and you look a lot better too," Valerie replied sincerely, remembering how difficult her last pregnancy had been.
"Yes, they had to do an emergency C-section. It's still a little hard forto stretch and move around, but you know how it is-little by little, I'll get better." Celeste hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
"Valerie..." "Yes?" Valerie replied, noticing the nervousness in her voice.
"Since the engagement dinner, I've been meaning to tell you something..." Celeste said, trying to sound calm. "Go ahead..." "Don't you recognize me?" Celeste asked cautiously.

"Yes... Do I look familiar to you at all?" Celeste asked again, trying to stir her memory.
Valerie stared at her. It was true-since the first tshe saw her, something about her felt familiar. But she hadn't been able to place where she knew her from.
"To be honest?" Valerie said, choosing to be upfront.
"Please," Celeste replied, waiting for an answer that would lead to her next point.
"I've seen you before, and I feel like I know you from somewhere... But I just can't figure out from where," Valerie admitted.

"How do you know that?" Valerie asked, intrigued.
"You probably don't remember me. I was a friend of Aurora Rennard. Back then, I was about fourteen. I worked at the sbar as you, but I washed the dishes," Celeste explained, trying to jog Valerie's memory.
Valerie studied her face, searching through old memories. And then-one crushing back.
"You were Aurora's little friend!" Valerie exclaimed in shock.
"That's right!" Celeste smiled. “I barely remember much myself, but I do remember-you used to serve drinks and sometimes played with the band. I wasn't allowed out front because of my age, but I saw you a few times with Aurora and..." Celeste hesitated, her voice trailing off.
"Peter," Valerie finished for her.
She understood now-Celeste's hesitation, her unease. Celeste knew about her past. Unlike Peter, who had forgotten, Celeste remembered everything.
"Yes... It's been a bit awkward, but I felt it was important to say something," Celeste admitted, looking a little embarrassed.
"Wow... I never thought you were her-Aurora's little shadow," Valerie said, still processing the revelation. "Yes... Aurora was very protective of me. It broke my heart when I had to leave and go back to my hometown. She was the closest thing I had to family," Celeste said with clear nostalgia.

I never imagined things would turn out so differently," Valerie said, shaking her head in mild surprise "Life takes strange turns..." Celeste said, almost apologetically.
"It really does... But what matters is that you're happy and doing well. Aurora once toldyou had no parents," Valerie continued, sensing there was still more to the story.
"They died when I was really young. After that, I was always running from social services," Celeste admitted honestly.
"Well, those days are behind you now.
You're a grown woman, and just like you've taken care of yourself all these years, now you have to take care of your daughters," Valerie said gently, taking Celeste's hands in hers.
"Yes, they're my whole world. I heard you have twins too. And you're John's mom-he's such a lively kid! I just know that when he and Ethan grow up, they're going to take the world by storm," Celeste said, finally feeling more relaxed.
Speaking her truth had lifted a weight off her chest. She could see that Valerie was calm about it, an@that reassured her. She knew she couldn't erase Peter's past, but she could accept it and make peace with it-quietly, in her own way. "Yes... John's actually a little upset right now because we're planning to move back to Hesperia, and he really doesn't want to be separated from Ethan," Valerie said, her tone filled with concern.
"Yeah... Ethan has mentioned something like that. Do you really have to go?" Celeste asked sincerely.
She knew how much Ethan loved John. A separation between them would be painful. If Valerie really was leaving, then sdifficult days were coming for their boys.
