Chapter 0725
Nina
The cool summer night air was a refreshing feeling; it was much more moderate here, where my dad's mansion
resided in the north. Nothing at all like the heat and thick humidity of the jungle where Mila had created her
horrific kingdom.
"I just can't believe it," | whispered, hanging my head over the stone railing of the balcony we stood on. "Just
when | think I've begun to understand this godforsaken family, it's as if another layer gets added."
Enzo, who had been quiet for most of the day, sighed as the wind ruffled his hair. "And now he wants us to help
him clean up his mess," he muttered.
It was true; my father wanted to recruit us for his cause. He had promised not only payment in return, but status
for our pack. In exchange, Mila needed to be taken down; her mind was gone, or so he had said. Peace could not
be achieved in this realm if her cult continued to grow.
And no matter how shitty it felt, my dad was right. Mila was a threat to society. She had boundand my
husband in silver ropes, forced Enzo to go through with multiple fights to the death, and imprisoned all of us. |
didn't know if we were even the first she had done that to.
Yet... | still couldn't wrap my head around it. To think that my father, the great and mighty Alpha King, had in part
caused this... It broke my heart.
Enzo, as though reading my thoughts, wandered over toand wrapped his arms aroundfrom behind. "It'll
be a quick and simple job," he said gently, tucking a strand of hair behind my ears. "Your father was right-"
"Yes, | know. With our pack being so small and unknown, we'll be the perfect choice. He'll train you all as
assassins, and then it'll just be a matter of sneaking into her fortress and taking her out. But that's not what I'm
worried about. Not really."
"What is it, then?" Enzo asked.
"It's Mila," | replied. "I hate to say this, but..."
"you feel bad for her," he finished for me.
| nodded and bit my lower lip. "I didn't know she had been through so much. And not to mention the fact that her
madness is partially caused by the noxious fumes in the mountain. It feels... almost wrong to be killing her."
"Is it any more wrong than the bear she forcedto kill?" Enzo asked. "Or the fact that she was planning on

A wry laugh escaped my lips at his words. "Alright," | said. "You have a point. But are you sure you want to take
this on?"
"It's... risky," Enzo said slowly. "But considering the fact that Mila was going to useas her breeder and take
you away from me... I'll do whatever it takes to make sure she can't hurt us or anyone else ever again."
| chewed my lip as | sat on the sidelines, nursing another cup of that damn tea. My mother had practically been
force feeding it tosince | had returned, even though | felt better now.
But | didn't refuse when she kept giving it to me; the medicine really did help in a lot of ways, and besides, |
couldn't possibly turn down my mother wanting to dote on me.
Right now, though, the tea was the last of my worries. | watched as Enzo stretched and bounced on his toes,
preparing for a spar with my father.
Enzo was quite the specimen; tall and muscular with a lithe, athletic frame. Years of playing hockey had given
him the body of a god, and our ‘adventures’ against the Crescents, the Luna, and now Mila, had given him the
scars to prove his hard work.
But then there was my father.
| had never seen him outside of the context of pure nobility. Dressed in his usual kingly attire, he was clearly
well- built but his years also showed in things such as his slight belly and the way his cheeks flushed red when
he laughed.
And yet, here, with his shirt off and preparing for a spar, he looked entirely different.
"He's a mountain of a man, isn't he?" my mother whispered, leaning a little closer.
"Yeah." | almost laughed. "You can say that again."
My mother, sensing my nervousness, put her arm around my shoulders. "He won't hurt Enzo. Don't worry." |
swallowed; | hated to admit it, but | actually wasn't sure if Enzo would win this practice spar. He was an excellent
fighter, yes, but hadn't been properly trained in the martial arts in years. Not only that, but Enzo's fighting skills
relied mainly on his wolf form; he had little experience with hand-to-hand combat, at least in recent history.
And my father had his own trainer who lived in his mansion, so... That meant that the scales were terribly off
balance before the fight even began.
"Remember your footwork, my boy," Aldric said as they began to circle one another. "It's all in the footwork."
"You forget, Aldric, | was given Alpha training for the first eighteen years of my life," Enzo said. There it was; that
cocky attitude of his. | cringed a bit at his smugness, but my father just laughed.
"We'll see how much you remember, then."
The fight began slowly and
contemplatively. My mother and |

"You feint with your body, but your eyes betray your true intentions," my father instructed. "Never look where
you intend to hit."
"Got it." Enzo grit his teeth and tried again. This time, he managed to get a good jab in against my father's ribs
but then my father's hand was gripping Enzo's wrist. He wrenched Enzo's arm behind his back, sending Enzo to
his knees.
| gasped as Enzo groaned. "Too slow," Aldric explained. "Quicken your footwork. Fast moves. Don't linger for a
moment longer than you need to, lest that happen again."
"Yes, sir."

Enzo went down like a sack of bricks.

"Tap out," Aldric said. "Before your bones break"
Enzo growled and did as my father said. My father released his grip on him and stood, holding his hand out to
Enzo. With a sigh, Enzo took it and stood as well.
"You're lucky this isn't real, Enzo," my father said as Enzo dusted himself off. "Or you would be dead already."
