[Amara's POV]
The image of the bear chasing after me made me stumbled on my feet, and my face hugged the ground.
Shit!
I didn't have time for this!
My AGI was already lacking as it was to outrun the beast, and this wasn't helping me the least.
My [Teleportation] was my ace to save my life. Now it has become useless.
I pulled myself together despite the boiling dread in my stomach that wanted me to puke all my innards out. The fear was already ninety percent into my brain, and my knees were shaking, asking me to stumble again.
Pushing myself up, I shakily fell down when a loud roar loomed over me from behind.
Looking over, the Scarebear was only twenty meters from where I lay. It was kicking up dirt and smashing away trees, boulders, and everything in its path just to get to me.
I was going to die in the hands of a slobbering giant with no eyes all because I had been nice to a noob that I shouldn't have.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNothing really came out good for being kind. The first time that I did, after being transported into this world, it would cost me my life.
I should have just been contented being a snob with no regard for others.
Only ten meters and my life would end. I should have experienced what they said in the movies about your life flashing before your eyes. But all I thought was my mistake and Cross.
The crazed beast raised its paws. Its mouth opened wide with its saliva wrapping thickly around its rows of jagged, sharp teeth.
I couldn't avert my gaze even when death was staring at me.
In a flash, something went passed in a blur from the side of my vision, and it tackled the bear to the ground before it could reach me with its paws.
I released the breath I held in the form of pants as I watched Thomas wrestled the bear away from me.
I quickly stood to my feet and wanted to run. I wanted to run, but I couldn't. I couldn't. Not when Thomas was fighting the bear.
I knew that I should have left. That was my chance. There was no way that Thomas could kill it.
But instead, all I could think about was Cross's and my sins piling up to him. I gritted my teeth and immediately cast [Reverse Heal].
It would take time, but I was hoping Thomas could hold it until then. I didn't know where Thomas got his STR from, but it managed to grapple the bear on its neck, thinking of suffocating it.
However, how brave and how foolish his actions was, his STR wasn't enough. The bear easily grabbed Thomas by its armor and, like a bag of the sac, threw him against a large tree.
I heard a sickening crunch, and the trunks broke apart. I thought Thomas was dead, but against all odds, he was on his feet though his spine was tilted to the side, and his arms were limp as if his clothes were the only ones holding his limbs together.
My guts were twisting, and I bit back the bile rising in my throat when Thomas ran towards the bear like it didn't feel pain when its limbs were dislocated. Its mouth was opened wide and thick saliva hung in his teeth as he ran like crazy towards the bear.
Seeing him like that, I was reminded of those zombies I saw in movies. Only this thing was real, and it was happening in front of me.
Thomas leaped from the ground and avoided the bear's claws. And like a beast himself, Thomas landed on the bear's back and bit a large chunk of its flesh.
The Scarebear roared and grabbed Thomas on its back, its paws crushing him in its hold, but he didn't let go of the bear's flesh and still bit hard with its teeth.
The bear roared in furry and snatched Thomas on its back together with a large chunk of its flesh that Thomas was still biting.
I was surprised and disgusted about this fight between two beasts.
And instead of throwing Thomas like it used to, the bear slammed his body to the ground repeatedly left and right before throwing him to the side.
"T-Thomas!" I was so horrified when I looked at Thomas's battered body. His spine twisted, his limbs were dislocated, and his head was at an odd angle.
I was sure that he was dead. Deader than dead.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmI gritted my teeth and cast [Reverse Heal] the moment it was available.
There was a wide black magic circle forming above the Scarebear, casting a cold glow over the beast. My INT was nearing a hundred, and I was betting at my ace to totally kill off the beast . . . but it wasn't –– it wasn't enough.
The Scarebear roared in pain and fury. It momentarily paused, and it pointed its head in my direction.
I gasped when it let out another roar. The force almost lift me off my feet and flung me to the side.
I took a step back when the beast slowly went over to my direction. My fear was biting my legs, and I fell down to my knees.
The warmth of my body was leaving me. All I felt was the biting coldness of death that made me shudder uncontrollably.
And just when the Scarebear swiped its razor-sharp claws, I felt a gush of air go past me before I heard a loud clang of metal against metal.
That's when I noticed that there was a familiar man in front of me. With a weird and scary-looking blade in his hand, he was deflecting the Scarebear's attacks and even managed to land a blow that knocked the beast a few meters away.
Even with just his back facing me, I knew who he was.
"C-Cross . . . ?" I whispered.
"Are you okay?"
My heart flipped twice over, and I was about to answer when I noticed that his attention was on Thomas.
